BadPlayer  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.2.0.18
by: Ne0nguy [More]

About BadPlayer:

You got a group together for the daily heroic. Everyone's gear checks out and every body seems confident about the run. So you pass group leader off to the tank so he can set the raid targets, and everyone heads inside the instance. It isn't long before you realize that things are going horribly. You have a BadPlayer in the group, and he doesn't know how to play his class.
You definitely don't want to run with him anytime soon. But he doesn't really belong on either your Friends or Ignore lists.

Add him to your BadPlayer list. BadPlayer allows you to list as many characters as you see fit. Each entry contains basic player info (such as name, level, race, class, and guild) along with the Date and Details of your last 'incident'.

This addon will also alert you if you unintentionally group up with a BadPlayer if he is on your list or on the list of one of your guild members.
Current Features:
  • Alerts when a BadPlayer joins your group or raid
  • Query's your guild for references on possible BadPlayers
  • Shared BadPlayer List between all characters on a realm
  • Search Frame showing player specific details and references from your guild
  • Reference Frame showing other players experiences with this character
  • Version checking and notification of updates

Slash Commands:
  • /BadPlayer
  • /bp (toggle BadPlayer UI)
  • /bp reset all (delete all addon data and reload the UI)
  • /bp [playername] (searches the player list for [playername])

BadPlayer - © Ryan West (ne0nguy.com)

Disclaimer: Player seen in the screenshots are not 'Bad'. They were added to simply demo this addons UI and were removed from the list shortly after.
This addon was designed for my girlfriend. I found that she was putting people she didn't want to group with on her friends list because it was the only list with comments.

Been looking for this!

A version that works across Guild would be great.

wouldn't mind seeing a fubar button for this mod or even if you had Broker support than titan and fubar users as well as other users could use that option. Anyways just installed your addon and have yet to put anyone in there but I like it so far.

I have been experimenting with different non-intrusive ways of quickly launching the UI and will take your idea into consideration. However, I am currently putting full priority into getting the essential parts of this addon completed. So you probably won't see this feature implemented until after it is out of beta.

broker (I'm a Titan, and this creates less mud wrestling wars ^^)

I do have a question though... I'm very interested in this mod, but one thing I wouldn't want to do is advertise who my 'bad players' are and why they are on my 'list' so to speak ^^. Is this by any chance a 'private' list, so that I don't have to worry that others are seeing the list? (and honestly, I personally wouldn't want to share this info with guilds or friends, just for my own knowledge). Looking forward to the response ^_^

Currently, this addon does not communicate with other players. So yes, it is private. However, one of the next 3 releases is expected to have guild communication.

When this happens, people wont be able search your list. However, whenever someone searches a potential bad player, all the players that have had a bad experience with that player will show up in a list. Upon clicking your name, they will be able to see your comment for that player.

I can see where this could possibly start some drama between players (if a BadPlayer searches himself) but hopefully you wouldnt have that many people you wouldn't want to run with in your guild.

Data sharing options will probably be in a future release, but I think it is important to see how people use this addon before allowing people to suspend their communications.

Author Post ^^
I love your reply, I'm glad that your doing that (seeing how it's used first). I personally think data sharing is a bit iffy/scary as it can create problems as a person's opinion is a opinion vs fact (yeah semantics lol) but if someone has a problem with someone (or just didn't 'click') it'd be a really bad way to create drama/rumours, if that makes sense. One thing that I do like about this game verses the one I played previous (was a mmo) is that in that game (specially if you were one of the 'higher ups') opinions and things followed you everywhere. So one thing that I think is good about this game is that a person (specially as there are many younger players) can grow...both maturity wise, but also gameplay wise...and still have a second chance. (yeah semantics lol).

But other than that...the guild thing. So as long as a person isn't adding guildies ^^ to their list, there's no worries? (and I'd like to suggest maybe a 'keep me private' option just in case) I personally love the idea of this program, but I'd like it more for me. And having to 'edit' my own words to seem 'flowery' just seems to be a bit tough. Specially since to tell yourself it's a bad player, you really got to be somewhat specific so you remember who was/wasn't. Or if you just want to tell yourself 'remember Naxx?' sort of thing.

Okay done rambling (btw, ldb ^^) *huuuuuuugs*

BadPlayer Updated

I have renamed the majority of the files included in the zip.
It is recommended that you delete your BadPlayer directory before extracting the latest release.

Feedback Needed

All of the major features I have been planning for have now been implemented.

As far as I can test, everything is working properly with no errors.
But my testing is limited due to the fact that I only have one account, and I can only emulate so much.

This addon is designed for active players in active guilds so I could use some feedback.
Any type is good but I am specifically looking for comments related to following:
  • Bug Reports and Information
  • How you use BadPlayer
  • How your friends uses BadPlayer
  • How your guild uses BadPlayer
  • Features you found that weren't listed
  • Features you hoped for but didn't find
  • Selectable Options that may be useful
  • False Data and Spam
  • Injecting messages into the addon channel that may cause it to function improperly
Anything helps. This addon is growing and more people will begin to use and abuse it. The earlier I get feedback, the earlier I can patch the problem areas.

From a user standpoint or a developers?

Currently it should do this automatically, provided other guild members use this add-on and have the same version.
Whenever a player joins your group they are scanned against your BadPlayer List. If they are not in your list, the add-on queries the player through your guild's private add-on channel.

You can also search for a specific BadPlayer by pressing the Query References button in the search frame.

If nothing happens when this occurs, this only means that the player in question is not on anyone's list.

Have you considered also implementing a good player portion of this mod? I mean I already consider this one of the best mods ever, but having a guild sharable good player list would be awesome to boot.

This add-on was mainly intended for warning you about potential bad players to prevent wipes and group breakups.
There are numerous other add-ons that keep track of players you have had good experiences with, but mainly this 'GoodPlayer List' is what the friends list is intended to be.
The sharable part is an interesting idea and I will consider experimenting with that when I redesign the interface and add the options panel.

Issue with BadPlayer

Hello, great mod! I had been using NotesUNeed for a long time to take notes on bad players and people not to group with, but BadPlayer is so much simpler and has some better features, thank you!.

I am running into an error with BadPlayer, it will only let me enter 12 characters into the comment field. Per the release notes, I should be able to enter 300 charaters over 3 lines I believe. So it would seem that there is a conflict on my end. Are you aware of any mods that conflict with BadPlayer or would cause this behavior?

Thanks,

Bloaf - US-Malfurion

Thanks for the feedback.
I have isolated the issue and it will be fixed in the next release of BadPlayer.

To clarify, the character limit is 100, not 300. If you did manage to save a comment that was 100 characters long, the text would wrap up to 3 lines and then get cut off when it could display no more.

Due to some technical issues, I will not be updating any of my add-ons until the 3.1 patch day.
To work around the 12 char limit, use a slash command to open the BadPlayer list before you open the friends frame.
The friends frame limits the text to 12 because it uses a similar window for the input to add players to your friends list. 12 being the maximum amount of letters in a character name.
