Dash

Version: Beta-r205
by: Kyahx [More]

* This is a beta-quality AddOn and may contain bugs / missing features *

Dash adds an extra "widget" layer to your Warcraft 'desktop', similar to the Dashboard feature of OSX. You can place infrequently used frames (Damage Meters, Quest Tracker, Chat Frames, etc...) onto this layer to still have quick access to the information without taking up precious normal screen-space.

The dashboard can be toggled via a key binding, or by moving your mouse into the top-right corner of your screen (I plan to add the option to toggle this hotspot, as well as enable different corners)

Dash Slash Commands:
/dash
- add <frame>: Add the specified frame to your dash (This can be a name such as 'ChatFrame2' or a lua namespace such as 'Violation.windows[1].frame')
- addmouse: adds the frame currently under the mouse cursor to the dash (note this only withs with frames that have names)
- remove <frame>: Removes the specified frame from the dash, this may require a ReloadUI depending on the frame
- list: List the frames that are on the dash.
- clear: Remove all frames from your dash (Again, this may require a ReloadUI)

--Changelog--
r205: Fixed a small profile error when choosing not to add a protected frame

Are you getting any errors? It seems to be working fine for me, even with adding fortress blocks. Maybe you're using another addon that's causing issues? Did you update anything before it stopped working?

This is still working beautifully for me most of the time, and is one of my fave mods. There are sometimes dongle issues when you have some other mods installed, like Pitbull, fubar, and chartographer, not sure what triggers them, but when they happen, they are persistent and cause the dash to not work properly. I don't have them right now, and I still haven't found the trigger.

Working perfectly right now, though.

On my dash I kept recap, spellcraft, and a few other mods, but I've finally run into a problem! I've uninstalled dash, but recap and spellcraft still think they're in the dash, and they do NOT show in the regular interface!

Just a word of warning to anybody thinking about uninstaling dash: Take elements off the dash before removing!!!
You must not have deleted the WTF, or you had another mod interfering. All I have to do to get things off the dash is either 1) delete the WTF files pertaining to dash or 2) clear the dash via the in-game command.

Thanks for the addon. Even though I will not be able to use it effectively till the shading is adjustable or removable (my LCD just don't cut it at this point), I'm still using it.

Multiple dashs sound interesting, how will the actual selection handled? Would it be mouseover-corner-of-choice with modifiers, giving probable up to 4 dashs?

Using Rock or Waterfall for config would probably help when there are more than 1 dash being played with...

Keep up the good work
Just edit it in the .LUA... The shader can be turned off -.-

Very nice mod.

During some testing on my bankers I do not seem to be able to remove stored frames.
I was able to add frames with no problem but when I try the /dash remove {framename} nothing happens.
The frame remains hidden.
Tried clear also but it didnt work.

EDIT: I can logout and when I log back in it's okay.
Disregard the post

I'm sure I'm not doing something right, suggestions ?

Finally! A good mod to help bridge the gap between functional and good-looking UI's. I'm fairly certain that this mod will help out many of us who are still trying to decide how they want to take their personal UI. Great mod, I don't see any bugs, although I do find the "hotspot" to be a little annoying some times.

Excellent job and an observation

Great work so far!

If ye test wi'frames that are "multi-part", the behavior isn't as one might expect. I'd suggest testin' it on the Character Frame, which has 4 or 5 tab frames, the paperdoll frame, and others.

If one /dash addmouse's the paper doll, only it will appear in dash; if LUA has some mechanism f'r notin' a frame's related frames, perhaps a "multi-frame frame" could be dash'd as a single entity.

I'm ign'rent - I only know the lua I've had t'fix....

I can't wait until this is out o'beta!

This mod is simply stunning! I use OSX and saw the value of this right away. Besides dmg and threat meters, this mod makes it very easy to hide how situational use like AutoBar and trinket menu. I can't wait to see this mod grow.

Some(Crazy) Ideas:

A GUI that makes adding and removing frames easier.

A "spaces" like Feature I.E. several different Dash layers that you can tab between.

Event activated layers I.E. In combat/OOC, wispered, ect... I know you said you didn't want a combat layer, but it would allow many minimalists to eliminate mods like Minichat.

All and all this mod is great.

Dang, well I wish I would've discovered dash two months ago... I thought I was being very original when I created OnScreen (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...OnScreen.html). Basically it's Dash, but less customizable, more efficient (doesn't reparent frames, so it doesn't break things like MQ), and fires on in / out of combat events. Check it out if that's more what you're looking for.

Also, Coldfury has created a mod called Tooggle (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...5-Tooggle.html) to basically do the same thing as OnScreen, but manually toggled, instead of triggered by events. His also has 5 different frame "sets" you can add things to.

Anyways, I feel that this concept of frame management creates a very dynamic and far more useful UI than most people will ever see. I'm glad that it's finally being fleshed out.
haha yeah same. i didnt really heard/saw any addons that did this when i did tooggle, but now that i did it, i found out that Dash and OnScreen were already there lol.

It's cool having this because even if our 3 mods "look'a'like", they are all providing different function/feature in a way. So user can choose the one that suits their needs better.

Hi Kyahx and Thanks for your great mod

I've been wondering if you could possibily add a feature like /dash listall in order to see all the active frame and choose wich one i want to add to my dashboard ^^

My probleme is I can't add frame like Ora CoolDown & Resurection Monitor (seems like dash don't find the frame when /dash listmouse :'( ) or the different frame from XLootMonitor...

Anyone could possibily tell me if you succeded in adding those frame to your dash?

Anyway great mod, keep it going

This is a brilliant idea for a mod, and I just started trying it out.

I put my monkeyquest frame on Dash, and noticed that the "Quest Item" counter that MQ adds to tooltips no longer updates until I pop open Dash. It's like putting the frame on Dash prevents MQ from firing the event that updates the tooltip. Thinking about how you built Dash, is it logical that something like this would happen, or is this unexpected?
