LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

You will find, if you spend enough time working with Computer Scientists, that the phrase "It was working great, until all of a suddenn..." is a completely false phrase. Something always changes, whether its you updating an addon, or accessing some functionality that you previously didn't. I can't magically troubleshoot for you.. and LightHeaded doesn't flip the page back on its own. Some addon of yours is periodically calling SelectQuestLogEntry(). You have to be the one to figure out which it is, and why this is happening.

Also, telling me you have an error, in the wrong addon, while DEMANDING that I fix it, isn't the best way to get things done. I am not psychic. I cannot fix errors that haven't been reported. Give me the text of the error message, or something, and report it in the correct addon.

I'm all for making sure things work, but if you want customer service you have to do your part.

Aww No, I didnt mean to come off like that. I forget that when u type something the other person can't know the tone in which u actually speak. Hehe i was saying that in the way that, I LOVE YOU for making this addon and I miss it...I'm not a mean person, so dont think that. I know you are working hard and probably stressed, just by reading the 50 comments that come in daily to you. You are doingf a great job and thanks for the advice. Sorry to come off in such a bad way.

Hope this hasn't been answered before: LH is gone for me. The latest version is installed, I get slash commands for it, but it simply doesn't show any data. When I press "L", all I get is the Questlog + an empty frame. Mostly empty - it shows the wowhead logo. Similar with nQL, just that there the LH does not open at all...

I know you're not mean, I'm just expressing my frustration. It doesn't help me to report issues without giving me the full information. I want any bugs squashed as quickly as possible, but I need help in order to do that.

It's hard for me to tell you things to try. Make sure you have Lua Errors enabled (this is in Interface Options -> Help). Do you get an error? You can turn on debug mode using /lh debug. Did you install a post 2.4 version without deleting the pre 2.4 version? They are not compatible.

In short, remove all of your current LightHeaded folders.
Install LightHeaded, including all the Data addons (there are only 5 now).

Please report back.

okay in the description of the addon you say:

"When installing this version of the addon, please remove any prior versions of LightHeaded (and it's data addons) that you might have laying around. They are not needed in this version, and deleting them ensures you get the latest version of the addon."

What are the data addons? Where would they be located?

LightHeaded consists of six folders

LightHeaded
LightHeaded_Data_A
LightHeaded_Data_B
LightHeaded_Data_C
LightHeaded_Data_D
LightHeaded_Data_E

All of these are separate addons that need to be installed as such.

Just after v2.4 came out, LH didn't have the data-folders, yet it worked fine...
Why was the folders added then?
Seems it would be easier to use, if only one folder..

Using separate folders is the only way to configure addons and their modules to be Load-On-Demand, which means that under normal conditions (like pre-2.4) it loads LH + a data module for ~1.5mb total memory usage.

Clad had to overhaul LH for 2.4 and the LOD was not working for the database modules, so Clad just released the whole hog as a single folder "working copy", which meant the whole thing loaded into memory. Yup... every single database, Alliance and Horde, at once, for a whopping ~9mb total.

Lightheaded as a single folder = a huge memory pig of an addon. Thats also why you'll see other addons with multiple modules, like Pitbull, Quartz, Bongos, etc. installed as multiple folders. Unneeded modules = waste of CPU usage and memory.

I believe that Clad has always recommended deleteing all LH folders prior to updating to a new version, because when installing addons that contain updated databases that are extracted from external source databases, like Lightheaded, its best to delete all of the old folders, rather than overwriting them.

It's always had the data folder, with the exception of the two weeks immediately following 2.4. LightHeaded without "the folders" would take up 16 megs and more of resident memory. This is a bad thing, since that would happen regardless of whether you've even opened your quest log.

This is correct.

re: waypoint arrows

hey there
i just discovered your add-on and really like it. i like that it gives more options than some of the other ones out there, in terms of which quest to do next. i have one question, though. as recommended, i've also installed tomtom, but this gives me two waypoint arrows instead of just one. i've been clearing off one as i go each time, but would rather have to avoid this step. suggestions, please.

I have no idea what you're talking about. TomTom provides one arrow. You must have another addon that is setting waypoints as well. If you don't want the TomTom arrow instead of the Cartographer arrow.. then you shoudl disable it via the TomTom options.

Before updating for the latest version, Lightheaded was working fine with nQuestlog but somehow, it doesn't work now.

The error appear when I'm opening a quest from the nQuestlog quest's list.
Interface/AddOns/LightHeaded/Lightheaded.lua:114:attempt to compare number with string
Is there a way to make it work with 2.4?
Thanks

It needs to be altered to use quest ids, which were introduced in 2.4.

I'm not sure what he's talking about. I'm using latest Lightheaded with nQuestlog without errors.

@Kelgar: Update your nQuestlog to latest version. I use WAU to update my Ace stuff, but I'm sure that the files.wowace.com version is the same.
