by: totalpackage, drjebus, Sugarwing

Cellular is an instant messenger mod (for only whispers) based on the functionality of an old version of ForgottenChat.

YouTube Intro

Features:

  • Many appearance options
  • History log
  • A way to copy text
  • Reuse of the default chat editbox
  • Whispers shown in separate windows or a tab-based single window
  • Should work with most spam filter mods
  • ...and other basic IM features
  • !! New !! Language support for enUS / enGB and deDE

How to Use:
  • "/cellular", check Interface Options->AddOns, or right-click a window for options
  • Left-click a window to toggle the editbox
  • Left-click a tab to activate it
  • Shift-left-click and drag a window to move
  • Shift-left-click and drag bottom-right corner to resize
  • Right-click a tab for show/close/options dropdown
  • Middle-click a tab to close
  • Hold ctrl and close any window/tab to quick remove from history
  • Several convenient buttons (some require shift clicking for confirmation reasons)

Warnings:
  • If you have history enabled and notice that Cellular is using a lot of memory, you should cleanup your history entries using Cellular's history options.
  • If you're experiencing crashing due to memory errors, disable and clear your history.
  • If you cherish your history, you can back up the saved variables file and then delete it. You can view it in any text editor later. The location of the saved variables file is here:

Reply issues should be fixed in the latest version.

As for the memory error, again, nobody is telling me that it occurs with Cellular running by itself or with a few mods running. Also, no one is mentioning that they have no history or a small one. Clear/clean or even try disabling your history. Users have told me that cleaning out their history fixed that problem.

I updated from the old version .010 to this new .011 and it seems there is a problem with the ingame /r function.

Normally I click in the cellular window to reply somebody but sometimes its easier for me to type /r for replying, but now i wrote my message to the active channel, not to the person that wrote me.
After deleting the new version and reinstalling the old version .010 all problems are gone, so it seems the update blocks this function.

Can you please verify if this also happens to you or if it's only my problem.

But thank you for updating this great mod.

PS: I use the german client of wow, if this helps you

crashing

thanks for implementing the text outline, however after last update i seem to suffer from same critical errors as poster few posts below whenever i have cellular enabled in addon list upon logging in any character the game crashes either with #132 or with the .src/mempool out ouf memory error. if i disable cellular in list, i can login normally, even enable cellular in addon manager after logging in, then if i reloadui cellular works. if i reloadui/relog char again game crashes.

now, i absolutely understand no addon should be causing wow to crash, you might argue its because of incompability with some from my others addons but seeing as all of them are working for quite a long time without a single lua error and problems only ensues when i enable Cellular, i have to say its your addon which seems incompatible with others, not the other way around.

for time being i reverted to wim which doesnt fit my ui that nicely as cellular did :<

i ran memtest on my machine my ram is without errors, all those errors upon crash of wow deal with memory something, maybe if you tried to rewrite some memory allocation procedures would help, although that is just how it appears to me, a simple layman when it comes to lua programming

anyway i'll try this adon on every update and i won;t stop hoping the crashing will go away :<

Done in the latest version.

I finally found the origin of the error. It seems to appear whenever Cellular is installed together with ag_unitframes, and on the second login (first time you enter game is fine, second time you get the error). After I delete either one from the Addons dir - no error. If i put it back in, second time i enter game, i get the critical error.
Hope it helps... i'm still sad i can't use these two together.
I just tried them together, no problems. I relogged and reloaded several times, no error. However, I am running those two by themselves. Did you?

I freed up some pixels in the latest version, but that's it. If you really want the window to be small, there is an option to hide those side buttons.

Side Buttons

Sorry if this has already been said but I didn't see it. Would it be possible for you to change the buttons to be attached to either the bottom or top of the window depending where the editbox shows up? I suggest this because I like to keep my window small but the buttons run-off the sides when it's small.

This is kind of disheartening . I really do like the addon and after 5 minutes of using it after I downloaded the addon for the first time I liked it much better than WIM. I'll keep checking back here though for any updates or anything that may be going on with it. Maybe I'll fool around with it some more myself and let you know what I come up with, if anything at all.

I just installed this addon about an hour ago and since then I've had 7 WoW critical errors. All occurring during the loading screen while either logging in from the character screen or doing a /reloadui. After doing some research I came across this thread and saw that people were having the same issue as I am.

This is the error message I'm getting each time.

This application has encountered a critical error:

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

Program: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe
File: .\src\lmemPool.cpp
Line: 311

Requested 3840 bytes of memory

I cleaned out my cache folder after the 3rd critical error but it has crashed 4 more times since then.

The bytes of memory it is requesting is changing each time. The 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th errors have called for 3840 bytes of memory, the 3rd called for 16384 bytes of memory and the 4th called for 3776 bytes of memory.

Now I'm not the most computer savvy person, but anyone with a functional brain can deduct that when something works perfectly fine, then a change is made and that thing starts fucking up, whatever that change was is probably causing the issue. I honestly think that Cellular is causing this to happen as this has never happened to me before and I find it odd that it started occurring immediately after I installed this addon. If you would like to see any of the critical error messages I can send it to you via e-mail or PM. Hopefully someone can figure out what is causing the issue.

UPDATE: I just disabled Cellular and re-enabled WoW Instant Messenger. I loaded in and out of the game several times and it has not been crashing and no problems have been occurring, which leads me even more to believe that Cellular was causing the issue.

Thankie

After clearing out the Cache folder like you suggested and removing some of the larger histories I had (1.4 mb cellular chat history on my main O.o; ) I seem to be able to use Cellular again without is crashing. I am going to wait till tomarrow though before trusting that was the solution. After a week of thinking I got it only to have something else cause it the next day... >_<

And yeah, I know that's a lot of big addons. ^^; Figure with 6 g ram I can afford it though.

But thank you, I always forget to try clearing the Cache.

Re: Re: Critical errors

I'm not going to be convinced that Cellular alone is causing that error unless it is the only mod running when that error occurs and the error stops once you disable it. My girlfriend and I have not yet gotten that error. Of course, we do not use any massive addons.

My research on this error shows this is a common error; none showed Cellular in their mod list. Most people fixed this error by disabling a large mod (QuestHelper and Auctioneer were the popular ones) or clearing their Cache folder.

Re: Critical errors

I've been getting that same critical error for some time now. I've crashed from it repeatedly and it stops when I disable Cellular. I know I don't have a lacking of memory

(2 gigs of RAM and a 1G videocard) so it's definitely not my computer that's causing this (I also have very few add-ons, the biggest add-on I have takes up 1.5 mb of memory)

Next time I get the error I'll post it.

Oh, and aside from that error, this mod is great. I've been using it since about November of last year, and keep with it!

I've already added ways to reduce history size. If you have a massive history, try cleaning it out. Also, those are some hefty addons in your list.
