GSE: GearScore Replacement  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.1.0
by: cbrown11 [More]

GSE shows and stores detailed information for players you encounter. For the most basic user, it will give you a numerical representation of the quality of other players' gear (their GearScore) and a summary of their talent specs, and it will display this information in their tooltip. For the advanced user, or pug leader, it will help you audit a player's gear, talents, and raid experience, so you can make well-informed decisions. Whenever you encounter a user, their detailed information is stored in a local database, so you can look over their information later, at any time.

Be sure to report any bugs you find, and we'll push out fixes to them as soon as we get them.

There are a lot of complaints that the GearScore number isn't as closely related to skill as it should be. For example, GearScore doesn't take into account a player's stats, talent specs, gemming, or enchanting. We strongly believe that there is no such thing as "SkillScore" and that a player's skill cannot be accurately represented in a single number. Furthermore, we don't want players to gem or enchant their gear in a certain way just to increase their GearScore. This is why we provide the means to efficiently analyze a player's skill through other means (and we're gonna be making this much easier over the next few updates). A single number can never accurately represent a player's skill, but we think a number that represents the quality of their gear is a great start for filtering out noobs from your pugs.

Features:

  • Add GearScore to player and item tooltips, as well as your character frame.
  • Add main-spec and off-spec to player tooltips.
  • Add current raid experience to player tooltips.
  • Store gear, including gems, enchants, and reforging for viewing at any time.
  • Store complete talent trees, including off-specs for viewing at any time.
  • Store current raid experience including individual boss kills for viewing at any time.
  • Searchable database UI for looking through players you've seen in the past.
  • Easy-to-use player auditing alerts you to missing gems, enchants, gear, or talent points.
  • Fully duel-spec aware - Maintains BOTH main-spec and off-spec gear / talent sets for players.
  • Cross-server support - View players that you've inspected on other servers.
  • Key Bindable - Viewing a player's info is as easy as hitting a button.

The next release will be shortly after the release of Cataclysm. It will feature the new raiding tier in the player overview and tooltips. It will also be updated to use the GS4 algorithm, but we may keep the current algorithm as an option too if we don't like GS4. - Update: Have patience with the update. I haven't really had any free time since Cata was released. :P

The next feature release will be the detailed experience tab.

Upcoming Features:
  • Experience Tab - View detailed raid experience for current and past raiding tiers.
  • Audit Tab - Advanced player auditing tools.
  • Raid Window - View or request data and statistics for players in your raid.
  • Player Requests - Request information remotely for players, either directly from the player or from guild members.
  • Player Notes - Store and view notes for individual players, and request notes from other guild members.
  • More options and customizations (such as changing displayed string formats, and relevant raiding tiers).
  • If there's something else you want, let us know.

Known Issues:
  • The model shown is always the user's character model with the target player's gear. This is caused by a Blizzard technical limitation and there's no known way to correct it at the moment (but I've spent a lot of time trying). The next best thing I've been able to come up with is a model with the correct gender and race, but wrong texture (imagine blood elves with fur and hooves), and no lighting on the cloak, helm, and shoulders. If someone has a way to make this work properly, let me know.

NOTE: This addon is not created by or affiliated with the makers of the original GearScore addon in any way. The creators of this addon were simply sick of GearScore operating poorly, looking ugly, and constantly breaking things. Thus, the goal of this addon is to either provide a better alternative to GearScore or give GearScore some competition and pressure them to work harder and do better.

Version 1.1.0
  • Fixed - GearScore in item tooltips.
  • Fixed? - Blizzard achievement frame error.
  • Changed - Split GearScore in tooltips option into two new options, one for items and one for players.
  • Added - UI for searchable player database. Access it by typing "/gse db" or key-bind it.
  • Added - Item levels in player gear tab.
  • Added - Database button in player window.

Version 1.0.3
  • Fixed - Player frame recycling.
  • Fixed - Bug that sometimes incorrectly caused the gear scroll frame to appear empty.

Version 1.0.2
  • Added - Cache time setting. Now you can have some control over how long player data is cached.
  • Changed - Memory optimizations. I've made some significant improvements in the amount of space the addon uses to store player data (both in memory and on disk).

Version 1.0.1
  • Fixed - Player window bug.

Version 1.0
  • First release.

Memory Usage

I read that you want to build up a local database to browse old players. Imo this feature is completely unusefull and it's just a wast of interface memory.

Can you plz think to set an option to enable db storage just for those like me that hate high memory usage?

I need to check your gs and achivs only when i'm taking you in my raid. No interest in data browsing after

Btw Grats! I was workin on a similar addon! You got the point! Gs alone is not a correct player measurement.

Thanks! You're right: For many players the current caching scheme is simply a waste of memory. I'll include options to change this in the next update! (I've also updated the description to include this.)

GearScore being supplied by whom?

Where is the "Gearscore" in your addon coming from. The original addon or your own gearscore ranking?

The original GearScore addon. In time, I may try to break away from the original GearScore algorithm, but for now, it's not really an option considering its mainstream popularity.

The addon is working correctly for achievements, gearscore, etc. But the model that shows up is always an orc for me (i am an orc).

If i target a troll priest, a tauren hunter, a bloodelf paladin, anything.... the model that shows up is that of an Orc everytime.

Is this intended?

There are also players i simply cant read from time to time. Even if standing directly ontop of them, the main screen pulls up but everything is blank. It will show their name, guild, rank, class. But doesnt show the gear until i manually inspect them. This doesnt happen too often, but it does happen.

The incorrect models are the result of a Blizzard restriction. I'll make a note of this on the main page. For the moment, there's no known way to get around it.

As for the second problem, I haven't seen that on any of my toons. I'll see if I can find something, but until I do, try hovering over them a few times and see if that makes it work.

Can't Install

I'm having a problem copying your addon into my addons folder.
The error I get is- "The system can't find the specificed file".

Unzipping the addon I get;
_MACOSX = Folder
GearScoreElite = Folder
_MACOSX = File 0 bytes
GearScoreElite = File 0 bytes

My system is Win XP3

Any ideas anyone??

TYA

exactly, the reason the ppl use gearscore lite is for that reason, don't caring about storing players and wasting memory

about GSE, looks great, will be interesting if is better than the hyped gearscore 4 that promises the same thing, the enchants and gems value etc etc

Yeah, I too am wondering. Storing user data is done be GS too.
That feature has been available for half a year. I dont understand why its being hype as if it something not in GS "main".
Anyway, I am all for competition. On the long run, whichever gets the job done better (i.e.: less lag, garbage collection, MB, etc), get my vote.

IMO it would be better if the gear tab looked kinda the same as in the Armory/Examiner addon, with item icons arranged in the same order around the model frame.
It would have the advantage of being easier to inspect because people are used to that layout.

Apart from that it looks great.

Doesn't work, getting this Error after mouseover other chars:

3x ...ns\Blizzard_AchievementUI\Blizzard_AchievementUI.lua:686: Usage: GetCategoryNumAchievements(categoryID):
...ns\Blizzard_AchievementUI\Blizzard_AchievementUI.lua:686: in function `AchievementFrameComparison_UpdateStatusBars':
...ns\Blizzard_AchievementUI\Blizzard_AchievementUI.lua:2651: in function <...ns\Blizzard_AchievementUI\Blizzard_AchievementUI.lua:2648>:

Locals:
id = "summary"

---

And when I expecting them, nothing changed, I don't get the things shown in the screenshots, using german client and version 1.0.3.

This looks interesting

I used to use http://www.wowinterface.com/download....html#comments before it was discontinued

It did the same kind of functions such as gem checking etc. Perhaps it might be of help

(ability to check a whole raid at once was great to see who hadn't enchanted their gear)

That error is coming from Blizzard's built-in achievement addon. I've seen it several times since the patch without running this addon. I'm not sure what it's caused by, but if there's no mention of GearScore Elite in the error message, I can't really know where to look for a possible bug. :P
