ImmersionRP (Continued)  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.1.2
by: Shannae [More]

The ImmersionRP Add On originally written by Seagale, continued by Shannae. ImmersionRP is a FlagRSP2 and MyRolePlay compatible Add On, which provides the user with the ability to supply additional descriptive text about their character and to set an "RP Status" such as Roleplayer, In Character, and Looking For Contact. ImmersionRP keeps to a strict design philosophy of intuitive interface design and minimal complication.

This is a small bugfix release, with a client version upgrade.

Naes random tip for this build: Don't want the infobox popping up in the middle of your raid? Right click your unit frame, go to ImmersionRP, and Disable ImmersionRP Temporarily.

Next Up: More code optimization, peer-to-peer description transmission, and improved tooltip handling.

Currently Annoying Me: How to not cause errors with the drop down menu to set a focus, before Blizzard fixes the client so this works the way they tell us it should.

I accept (but do not respond to) direct emails sent to Shannae dot Darkehart at gmail dot com.

pretty nice..one thing though..

is there any way to integrate the Prefix/Suffix titles into the standard tooltip, instead of just the pop-up one?

Re: pretty nice..one thing though..

That's one of the things I'm working on sussing out. IRP is undergoing heavy revisions for WotLK, so I may not get to littler things like this right away, but this and many other small tweak requests are on my to do list.

Is there a possibility to add an extra section for the roleplaying background info? Perhaps with the option to keep this section "secret" (only for the eyes of the player himself)? It would be nice to take at least short notes about a background story, but this isn't something that should be part of the "description" section.

And, if it is possible: Would be nice to have a second option to show this background section only to a few people on a "white list" (or maybe friend list or guild) - those who are supposed to know about the history of the character.

I know this says that the addon will be updated slightly prior to WotLK coming out, but what about today's 3.0.2 patch?

I just now got into the game to verify everything is working, and sadly the last build I did on the Beta client now throws a pair of errors with the IRP configuration window open. Both of these cause no actual errors in the mods performance, and can safely be supressed by unchecking the "Display Lua Errors" box in the Help section of the Interface Configuration window (reached by clicking Interface from the option menu opened with the Esc button).

So I mulled this over before answering, and decided to tell the whole story of it.

See, when I emailed Seagale, I asked him if he was going to everpick the mod back up, and if not, if I could. He told me that no, he wasn't going to code for a game he no longer plays, but he'd assist me with specific questions if needed. He's been a tremendous help as I teach myself Lua, and in many ways when I talk to him I feel like the journeyman going back to his old master for advice.

The other thing he asked of me, was to not implement any extra fields and such not implemented in the original FlagRSP by Flokru. Considering that the code is more than 90% still his code, I feel this isn't too much for him to ask.

That said, now that the dust has settled a bit since the patch, and there ought to not be any more troubles when Wrath fully launches, I intend to try and get ahold of the authors of the now FOUR RP Mods out there and see if we cant get a better level of unity and collaboration going. At that time, if everything goes my way, the lot of us may decide to fully embrace such additional features as a group.

And if that doesn't go the way I'd like, well, I've been contemplating a completely new Add On that will be compatible with the other four, and have many, many additional features, but with an ImmersionRPesque focus on intuitive design and a pleasant end user experience.

Error and comment about backgrounds

First off, I get an error at the inital call of the IRP frame. (see below)

Second, Please do not implement any type of "background" field. As an RPer, I hate seeing people post things publicly that there should be no way for anyone to know about by just a simple glance. Our server has actually created a Wiki for people to post bios, backgrounds, stories and artwork. In my opinion, the ingame RP mods should only show what you can know by looking at the character.

The only extra fields I wouldn't mind seeing are stuff like height and eyecolor since may people forget to include it (myself included) in their character description.

Anyway... I posted the error on Curse Forge, but I'll repost it here as well. I'll leave out my long list of addons, if you want to see it just check the ticket on the forge.

Addon List

Have other folks gotten IRP to work in 3.0.2? Mine REFUSES to show up on the addon list by the character screen. I have it set to load outdated and I re-installed IRP but to no avail.

EDIT:

So you need to extract 'Immersion' and 'ImmersionSocialRP' to their OWN directories in AddOns; don't put them inside 'IRP'.

*pokes the Earthsprite* Even though I just told you over aim I'll post it here.

As packaged, it currently comes out as thus in the file tree:

>IRP
>>\ImmersionRP
>>\ImmersionRPSocial

When you put it into your addons directory, you do NOT put in the IRP directory. You take out the two folders inside of it and put THEM into the Addons folder like thus:

>WoW
>>\Interface
>>>\Addons
>>>>\ImmersionRP
>>>>\ImmersionRPSocial

This is why I and many others kindly request that the author do away with the current packaging and simply package the two folders as is. Pretty much the 'standard' packaging for mods means making it so the file can be uncompressed directly into the Addons folder and have it simply work.

Everything aside, if I haven't said it before I'll say it again: "I love this mod and thank you ever so much for taking it over!"

I've had issues where the GUI doesn't show me my description, etc, so i can't edit any of my information.

Is this just me, or others?

Curses administration tools hate me and the feeling is mutual, so I don't use it any more. The file there will be updated, but that is all. And the error you supplied is the one I was refering to in the last update. It has now been fixed.

I'm working on the folder thing. The idea was to eventually have a good number of optional plug in mods for IRP, but community support has been lacking in that regard. My own development version (read: unstable and bugtastic version) currently only has one folder, so look forward to that soon.

And as always, thank you for the encouragement and feedback. <3

Ensure that you are using the latest version. This was the primary error with the older pre-WOTLK compliant edition.

A problem

I'm working on developing a small unitframes addon, and I recently ran into a problem while getting my preliminary "Don't put things here" run. It seems that when I try and set focus on an NPC, player or mob, immersionRP blocks the action. Any idea what's going on with this?

Any and every add on that makes use of a drop down menu has had that problem since the Beta. At this point, I've tried everything I know to do and it hasn't worked, but I still poke at it now and again. I've gotten several strange strange Taint errors like that with many other add ons, so this one currently appears to be on Blizzard.
