TipOnDemand

Version: 05.00.03.R
by: Garland [More]

.: Tip on Demand - Fifth Milestone :.

I created this Addon because I like having tooltips following my cursor but I was tired of not being able to control how and when they were actually shown, so I created this suite of tooltip handling functionality to deal with that problem.

For more information see the manual at Google Docs. The manual is also included in the zip (in the Other folder).

.: Changelog :.

05.00.03.R: Whilst working on another project, I noticed a bit of an oddity regarding FuBar module naming conventions, something that might cause problems and conflicts. I don't know if any of you will ever see problems from this could be bug but it's worth getting this version anyway, just in case. You will lose a few minor settings (such as FuBar position, left/center/right, showing/hiding text/icon and so on) purely related ot FuBar but it might be worth it for peace of mind. I'm not even sure if this is a real issue to be honest but... better safe than sorry.

05.00.02.R: Another small error I've caught in the Elements, if someone out there actually isn't using FuBar, an error would throw. I've got this fixed. If you have FuBar then you probably don't need this version. If you don't, I apologise for that silly goofup.

05.00.01.R: Oops, tiny prob in the Catch Frame module that could cause a cosmetic error for people not using SetKey (since that's now all optional). No rest for the wicked/sloppy!

05.00.00.R: So, fifth milestone release! Since this latest version seems to be stable, I'm bumping it up to the next milestone. I've also included a manual with the zip as you've no doubt read, just for that little extra bit of polish. Seems like ToD is really shaping up! As always, bug reports and feedback are most welcome.

(See the RelCodes.txt file included with this mod for an explanation of my version release codes.)

The tooltip had an info-acquisition bug that I just found, I've fixed it and version 01.00.01.R is avilable. A heads up so you know.

Hmm looks promising.

How do I configure it so that the tooltips ( attached to mouse ) show all the time except when I hover over PlayerFrame, Party frames, Focus and Target frames.

Basically, only show tooltips for Player, Party, Target, Focus when I press the modifier but other tooltips remain on always.

Thanks

Maglev: I like that idea, it's a good one. ^^ I sadly admit that the mod cannot do this currently but I do have some ideas about how it can be done. Tell me which you'd prefer of these;

-/tod whitelist frame

With this version the frame name is typed in.

-/tod whitelist

With this version, it takes the name of the frame under the mouse cursor so if the mouse cursor is over the PlayerFrame then it takes that name and whitelists it.

A check could be made against the whitelisted frame at this point and if the frame under the cursor is the same as a frame in the whitelist, the frame won't hide. I have a worry I admit, if the whitelist is big it might cause memory usage on rolling tooltips around but that's only if the whitelist does get very big.

Is that the feature you want? What do you think? Let me know.

Yep, a whitelist/blacklist of selected frames is great. There are only a few frames that I like to block. Especially those annoying party member frames tooltips when I hover over them to click cast.

Is it possible also to block actionbar tooltips ?

Cheers !

Thanks, I hope you like the additions. I noticed that I forgot to answer a question earlier, my bad. It's possible to block actionbar tooltips now, use showname to grab the actionbar frame or button and after that it's a simple matter of typing /tod blacklist. The selected frame will never reveal its tooltip again then, and you can do that for each frame that you need to.

If you have any other ideas, let me know!

Works great. Thanks !

Would like to be able to show tooltips for those blacklisted when I press the modifier though. No biggie.

Skoo: Oh that was a silly oversight I made in 01.05.01, I think it was. I moved the local that fetched the keydata to save repeating it but that means that changing the key needs a reload of the UI, I'll get that fixed right away. Thanks for letting me know! That was a really goofy mistake.

Maglev: That should be doable and all it'll take is a small change to the logic, I really hadn't considered that.

Expect 02.00.01 soon!

Skoo: Sure, I can do that, sounds like a nice feature to have and I'd be happy to include it. Looks like 02.01.01 is on the way.

I'm working on other projects too at the moment (all will be revealed in good time... but it's a big one) but I'm still thinking of this little mod a lot, I'm worried that it might come over as bloated and I'm tempted to make it module based. If you're a user of the 02.01.03 version then I'd be happy to hear from you and your opinions, do you use all of the mod or just some parts and should it be modularised at all?

I am just using the blacklist feature. Not using the combat nor whitelist.
