LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

A few VERY IMPORTANT requests

Hey,
First let me start by saying - Awsome addon!!
Finally someone brought this all searching the net-notes IN-Game!

Personaly, up until the moment I saw this addon, I didn't even know lwowHead; I use Thottbot, which is great if you ask me

I've installed lighthead & tomtom, and I very much love the integration between them. I also have chartographer, which is somewhat similar to tomtom, but still not the same. I would have thought that such two addons (TomTom & Chartographer) should be combined into one. But the credit here is all yours for thinking of such a great addition as TomTom

I talk a lot - I know lol

Anyhow, I have two requests about LightHead.
First the simpler one:
Can you make the thext resizable?

And second, the more complicated but also much more important one:
You see, I can't find DoubleWide, which I understand is the addon you use to make the questlog appear in a two-part window. But even if I were to find it... I wouldn't use it, because the addon I use at the moment is simply more usefull. The problem is, LightHead and the addon I use (which is called Extended QuestLog v3.7.1 - Unofficial) don't work together.

I've read the comments here & thought "well, maybe it's because I use the `Show Quest Levels` function..." But no ... I've disabled that function & it still doesn't work. Now, without the Extended QuestLog, LightHead works just fine... but it's a real downer on the game-quality.

So I ask you this...
Can you please... Please please please... make the LightHead addon compatible with the ` Extended QuestLog v3.7.1 - Unofficial`?

Here's where you can download the Extended Questlog (Latest Version):
http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=1676

And here's the creators' contact info:
Name: Daniel Rehn
Email: danielrehn[at]home.se

I myself have sent him an e-mail asking him to make the Questlog window resizable (as the biggest size of font he has is simply not enough for me). He still hasn't replyed, but as you're a developer, I'm hoping he WILL reply you faster.

Please make this effort for all of your users... it'll make such a huge difference.
I know if you do.. I personaly will imediately start using LightHead.

P.S.
I'm about to try that minimalist addon aswell, but if you answer my request positively - I'll have no problems getting rid of the minimalist of course... as YOUR addon is SO much better hehe

What do you mean resizable? You want an option to make the font size smaller or larger?

And second, the more complicated but also much more important one:

Doublewide is available on this website, searching will bring it up, but you're welcome to use what you want to use.

So I ask you this...
Can you please... Please please please... make the LightHead addon compatible with the ` Extended QuestLog v3.7.1 - Unofficial`?
That addon will need to code support for LightHeaded.. I provide the comments, and a default window for the default UI. Adding support is easy, that author can contact me directly to get more information.

Any chance of adding support for Cartographer_Waypoints as an alternative to TomTom?

Its not high on the list of things to do at the moment, Cart_waypoints could easily code support to hook the hyperlink click function

At the moment I have no way to do that. In order to make it work properly, I would need to have direct translations of every single quest title in the game, and I don't see that in any easily parsable format right now.

LoadonDemand

I removed the LoadOnDemand portion from this version, but I'll re-enable it at some point
Oh I was trying to figure out why the display pane was "blank" when I click on any and every quest onn all alts and I just came here to read up a little more on it and seen what you mentioned.

Nice addon btw, I was using the qComment and the nQuestlog just days ago but have changed to Lightheaded due to the previous addon giving me "Data addons give me lagspikes" and since it offers the basic tools I am seeking and there is SO much room to grow this addon every which way you choose :P I just need to Learn2search in-game /commands that you provided.

In my case, it was Quest Level 2.6 causing the LightHeaded windows to be blank (the only quest level mod that caches levels at NPCs so you can see them in future NPC gossip frames--its a 2.0 update of Elkano's old Quest Level). LightHeaded worked fine after disabling the mod. Also use Minimalist, but have had its level module disabled.

This is a major issue for the many people who use some variation of a quest level mod; there are a large number of them out there. One integrated in Cosmos, one integrated in the CT_ package, one in Minimalist and on and on. Is there any way you can change the LightHeaded lookups to focus on the name only and ignore any extra characters (quest levels, etc.)? Or something else to make it work with such mods? Not sure at this point if I (or others, I'm sure) will want to give up quest level displays to access the information from this mod.

You don't seem to understand. There are no unique identifiers for quests, so the ONLY way I can look a quest up is by level and name. The addons you are using, are altering the returns from the Blizzard API call. This means if they change it, there is no way for me to get the actual name and level values without resorting to extreme hackery on my end of things, that may cause other things to not work. LightHeaded gives you quest levels, just doesn't put them in the link when you shift-click them.

Again, LightHeaded displays level information, not sure where the issue is.

As it is, I can't get anything unique from title/level, since there are both alliance and horde quests, etc. For the most part, I've resolved these issues where possible, but resorting to name only would probably cause a number of issues.

Not to mention, the addons you're talking about CHANGE THE NAME OF THE QUEST, so a lookup by name would also, not work. its bad coding on that end of things.

I was just asking if changes could be made to accommodate the wide range of such mods so that both could be used together instead of having to make a choice . Did not realize there were no unique quest identifiers and that you could not exclude non-alpha characters from lookups. And as such, making this compatible with those addons would require massive hack changes (I'd say go for it, but then again its not my mod ).

The issues are:
A) the many people who might like to try this, but find they "can't get it working" due to having any of the many quest level mods installed, yet not knowing that such mods cause LightHeaded not to work. But some more info in the description rather than the user comments (from which I personally saw the issue detailed) might alleviate this issue.
B) not being able to see the levels w/o having to click the quests first, then looking in the window. Doing those steps takes longer than having the levels showing in the default log. You also cannot get an instant comparative level ranking of the quests you have. Minor issue for some, less minor for others.
C) for users of the above noted Quest Level 2.6 specifically, being unable to see quest levels in NPC gossip frames (which I find incredibly convenient).

Anyway, nice update of WoWhead Quests/nComment for those who aren't affected by the above.

Well, if you're familiar with my addons, you know I don't do the whole "massive hack changes" thing. Ever. This also has nothing to do with non-alpha characters, since MANY quests have non-alpha characters in them in a number of places.

The issues are:
A) the many people who might like to try this, but find they "can't get it working" due to having any of the many quest level mods installed, yet not knowing that such mods cause LightHeaded not to work. I agree, this would help. I'd also like to find _something_ to make it work, but its not an easy problem.
B) not being able to see the levels w/o having to click the quests first, then looking in the window. Doing those steps takes longer than having the levels showing in the default log. I'll be the dick who points out there's a reason for the coloring of quests, green, yellow, orange, red.. etc. I understand tho.

C) for users of the above noted Quest Level 2.6 specifically, being unable to see quest levels in NPC gossip frames (which I find incredibly convenient).
Again, they change the API.. The problem isn't how I coded my addon, its how they coded theirs. They took the easy way out, because there was no reason not to. I'm doing the best I can, with what I've been given, which is very little.

Again, I'd like a nice easy solution, but its too easy for these addons to hook the API and change the return values which is bad, mkay?

Howdy

Indeed I had a couple addons that wre hindering Lightheaded to work at all and would show the "blank" pane, I disabled these addons and now Lightheaded is showing data now. I am looking forward to see this addon grow in functionality and player base.

Tip:
If you have any other addons that change, add or manipulate the default quest log in anyway and you get a "blank" pane from lightheaded you need to disable those addons until you find the culprit, only use the questlog addons that are in the Authors list that say "compatible" until such features are fixed.

I changed from Wowhead_Quests over to Lightheaded at the authors recommendation. So far, this is an excellent mod.
So, if this questions has been ask and I missed it in the comments, Sorry.

But is there a key modifier available so that the info windows only show up with the press of a modifier key (alt, ctrl etc.).

I ask only because I do not need the information every time I open a quest in QuestFU or default log.

Love the mod,
Willtock

Has anyone been able to get this to work with Extended Quest Log?

After I installed this addon, when I click on a Quest title my entire UI freezes. I have to control-alt-delete and kill the WoW process.

Thanks!
