QuestGuru  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.8.3
by: Lazare [More]

QuestGuru is a Quest Log Enhancer.
If you are looking for the "Classic" version of QuestGuru click QuestGuru_Classic

I have split off QuestGuru and QuestGuru Sounds into two separate addons that don't rely on each other so that the community that really missed the sounds can have them with me delaying them because of the qork being done on QuestGuru. I hope this makes at least some people happy.
You can click > QuestGuru Sounds

Note: If you like this addon, please "Like it" on Curse.com.
All Donations support me and I thank you in advance for it.

Features include:

  • Enhanced 2 page quest display in the log
  • Patch 6.0 broke QuestGuru, so this is a completely different monster
  • Conforms to the WOD map quest log (Tooltips for quests and icons showing quest status)
  • Added full time quest level in front of quest name and tooltips.
For those who are missing the Quest Tracker of QuestGuru, try Kaliel's Tracker

I have been using it for a long while and is not half bad

TO-DO's:
  • Will try and revamp the quest tracker as I love it also. But wanted to get the Log out ASAP.
  • Try to bring back the other features of the old QuestGuru (Sounds, announcements, etc.)
  • Need to make a in-game config window, still a work in progress.
F A Q
==============
Q. How do I post a Bug Report?
  • A1 - Click on QuestGuru Go to the AddOn and on the right side there is a selection called "Bugs" click on that. You will need to be signed in to WoW Interface to create a bug report.
  • A2 - Or file a ticket on QuestGuru@CurseForge
  • Note:
  • Please include the version of QuestGuru you are using and copy/paste the error message you receive.
  • Please describe what you were doing when the error happened. This will help tremendously.
Q. How do I turn on auto-tracking of quests?
  • A - Look in the options for the game itself, not QuestGuru. Under Objectives there are options to set when to track quests.
  • QuestGuru does not duplicate these settings in its own options as it could become problematic and it is not necessary to duplicate options already available.
Q. Where can I find a version compatible with WoW patch x?
  • A. QuestGuru is supported for the current Expansion and Patch level running on the live servers. PTR versions may be supported as Alpha or Beta releases, but I offer no guarantee.

QuestGuru
(no changes)

QuestGuru_Tracker
* Normalizing the version numbers between QuestGuru & QuestGuru_Tracker to the same value. This will be the main change log henceforth.
* fix Achievement to ignore update events that happen during portals (between leaving and entering world events)
The update event would fire, but Blizzard was reporting no achievements during that time so the QGT would
"UnTrack" the Achievements and so there would be none when the display tried to update (and therefore currLine was zero and j was nil)
* Look at the oldChangeLog in QuestGuru_Tracker for older updates to the tracker

Version 2.2.17-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Changing the Version number so Curse will see that it's different

Version 1.5.16-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* fix QGT_Achievement.lua to handle Blizzard not returning an integer value on the slider
Version 2.2.16-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed a bit of diagnostic code accidently left in.
Version 2.2.15-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Change logic around QuestLog_OnShow to use secure hook functions to resolve
a taint issue introduced by patch 5.4.1 (Shame on you Blizzard).

Version 2.2.14-50400 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.4

Version 2.2.14-50300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.3
* Fixed a problem in QGT_Achievements that caused the Tracker to fail (Tracker)
* Big thanks to CMTitan who provided code to handle Scenarios that came out with MoP (Tracker)

Version 2.2.13-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Added a new sound option to announce (Thank you Drizt)
* Added a snippet of code to fix a rare QuestLog layout problem. Drizt ran into this again in MoP & kindly shared his fix for the issue.
* Fixed a few more places where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.
* Changed the Debug message for the objectives not returning data to be sensitive to the debug setting.

Version 1.5.14-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed another place where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.

Version 2.2.12-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Blizzard API GetQuestLogLeaderBoard is failing to return information for the identified objective & quest on some quests.
I changed the code to look for no information return and simply bypass processing for that objective after dumping some info into the chatlog.
I've added a slashcommand to invoke the routine at will: "/qg testui1"
For me, it's failing on "Shadow Wardens" and perhaps that's because the world tree marks are currency, not "items".
If the quest is an event quest (get 150 marks) then the type of quest should be event and the numObjectives should be zero.

Version 2.2.11-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Error being reported by some @ line 410 of QuestGuru.lua. Added some diagnostic code when text == nil

Version 2.2.10-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed some leftover diagnostic messages

Version 1.5.13-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed a problem with the Achievement Tracking

Version 2.2.9-50001 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.12-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Both - Updated several items for compatability with Mists of Panderia (Patch 5.0.x)

Version 2.2.7-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.10-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Latest revision of the Russian localization now incorporated. Thank you again StingerSoft!
* Removed some unused code. Frame "QG_QuestLogTitleMenu"
* Fixed the SetBindings problem that would cause all bindings to occassionally get lost.

Version 2.2.6-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.9-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Made several localization changes. Enabled $substitution variables in announcer to be localized as well.
* Incorporated a brand new localization for Chinese(zhCN). Credit to Honooon with many thanks.
* Incorporated an updated localization for Russian(ruRU). Credit to StingerSoft with many thanks also.
* Updated all of the localizations (even the new ones) to synchronize variable names
* I based the updates upon the default (American) localization file.
* I removed variables that were no longer in the base localization file (most moved to the QuestGuru_Tracer localization)
* and added missing variables (in American)
* We now have localizations for German, French, Russian, and Chinese (zhCN & zhTW).
* I would really appreciate it if speakers of those languages sent me updates to them.
* There are some new variables in the localizations that need translation!

Version 2.2.5-40300
-------------
* The History button call to QuestCompletist has been fixed.

Version 2.2.4a-40300
-------------
* Refixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker\QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return other than nil, 1, or 2.

Version 2.2.4-40300
-------------
* Fixed the TOC for 4.3 cata
* MrObrien has asked that somebody pickup and work on the QuestGuru so I will try and do some updates as I can't play without this mod.
Addon home is www.wowinterface.com and you can PM me there if you like. Gregity is the name.
I will be making small changes to get used to the codebase before I try anything like a major update.
* Fixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker/QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return nil
* No other new information has been added (yet).

As Cartman stated, there really isn't any need to report bugs from QuestGuru 1.x as it will be going away. I am sorry that it seemed to cause so many problems as more and more patches came out, and I do appreciate the feedback.

"Good news everyone!" I will be releasing QuestGuru 2.1 this weekend. It might not include all the same modifications that Dridzt has in his release that is in the Optional Files area, as I have been working on mine separately, but it will be what I have been hoping the 2.x version of QuestGuru could be: a modification of the built-in quest log, rather than a replacement, which will completely eliminate all taint issues cause by QG

The version I release this weekend might not have all the features I want it to at first, but I can work on those over time. The important thing is to have a working, stable addon for the release of Cataclysm. It WILL include quest progress sounds, check boxes in the quest log for easy tracking, the quest announcer, and the tracker. It will NOT (yet) include an abandon history or the old quest history that stored tons of data. The new history (which might not make it to this version) will use the list of quests pulled from the server. The problem with including this right away is that a TON of quests have changed, so the full quest list I have is completely outdated.

I'm running v1.5.1 and getting this error typically on zoning eg: this one was on arriving in Stormwind via boat from Northrend.

It looks like something is hooking the GuildUI and causing an error when the newsType value isn't filled.

For info I was running with the new Guild Interface turned on ie: exactly how it will be on Tuesday when Cata launches. So if you fix this it will save you getting moans from users on Tuesday about the issue.

To test it you need to turn on the Guild interface stuff by typing in chat...

Code:
/run GetGuildLevelEnabled = function() return true end if AchivementFrame_SetTabs then AchivementFrame_SetTabs() end
8x Blizzard_GuildUI\Blizzard_GuildNews.lua:133: attempt to concatenate local 'newsType' (a nil value)
Blizzard_GuildUI\Blizzard_GuildUI.lua:470: in function `GuildMainFrame_UpdateNewsEvents'
Blizzard_GuildUI\Blizzard_GuildUI.lua:425: in function <...terface\AddOns\Blizzard_GuildUI\Blizzard_GuildUI.lua:418>
<in C code>: in function `SetGuildRosterShowOffline'
QuestGuru-1.5.1\QuestGuruComm.lua:451: in function `QuestGuru_CommUpdateGuild'
QuestGuru-1.5.1\QuestGuru.lua:1011: in function `QuestLog_Update'
QuestGuru-1.5.1\QuestGuru.lua:609: in function <QuestGuru\QuestGuru.lua:607>

Locals:
numNews = 27
numEvents = 1
divider = 8
maxNews = 27
maxEvents = 1
button = nil
buttons = <table> {
1 = GuildUpdatesButton1 {}
2 = GuildUpdatesButton2 {}
3 = GuildUpdatesButton3 {}
4 = GuildUpdatesButton4 {}
5 = GuildUpdatesButton5 {}
6 = GuildUpdatesButton6 {}
7 = GuildUpdatesButton7 {}
8 = GuildUpdatesButton8 {}
9 = GuildUpdatesButton9 {}
}

---

Hope this helps. I'm an addon developer myself so happy to help debugging if you need further info/assistance. One of my favourite addons so I'm pleased you are continuing to develop it and don't let the clueless posting crap on curse get you down. Do what I do, disable comments and enable tickets instead.

I'm hoping to get "QuestGuru 2.1 Beta 1" released soon, but it still has a few issues that need to be worked out first. And yes, it will include the tracker
Thanks. Your addon is probably the most useful addon I've used. I can't wait to try out QG 2.1.

So I put v 1.3 in and the quest log text color is black. I'm not finding where the quest log font color is being changed. Can you help point me to where I can the font color? Thanks!
I had the same issue and saw that you found Skinner as the saboteur.
I messed around with it a bit and found a work-around to have skinner doing as told!

You need to go to the Skinner options in the Interface menu. You will find something called DisabledSkins. Here you will have to find Questguru and set a tick next to it.

Skinner will now properly skin the default Questlog black as usual and the yellow text will once again be readable.

I know it's been 18 pages since your issue but I hope that This will help someone as it took me about an hour of googling etc before even finding the what caused the problem

PS : I'm using Skinner along with the QuestGuru 2 that is posted under optional files.

QG 1.x replaces the quest log frame so the quest complete button is not included. It should be possible to show the button in QG 1 but as that version causes the tain issues with the vehicle interface I don't recommend using it at the moment.
QG 2 only enhances the quest log so you can use the fixed QG 2 available under optional files here as the button is visible there.

As stated below I was able to get the complete quest functionality working in QG 2. But as it is only a quick and dirty solution it would be better if someone with more LUA knowledge could implement it in a nicer way.

Oddly enough I could get that button to work with the tracker still enabled.. all I did was diasble the main QG addon, which caused a dependency disable with all the other QG elements except the tracker. Then I logged back in and resumed the chain in the Swamp of Sorrows (ally-side) that takes you into the non-dungeon part of the temple and has you kill a few named mobs. Before disabling the main QG addon I didn't have the completion button, but after I had logged out and back in to disable I could click the button perfectly fine - with the tracker still active!

I just thought I'd post that here, because it might mean the problem doesn't necessarily lie within the QG tracker.

I tested the issue with the quest complete button missing at the tracker.
The Button is also available in the questlog when using the fixed QG by Dridzt.
I identified the button as QuestLogFrameCompleteButton.

By looking at the Blizzard code I found the following that shows the button in the questlog:
local title, level, questTag, suggestedGroup, isHeader, isCollapsed, isComplete, isDaily = GetQuestLogTitle(questIndex);
if (isComplete and GetQuestLogIsAutoComplete(questIndex)) then
QuestLogFrameCompleteButton:Show();
else
QuestLogFrameCompleteButton:Hide();
end

And the following code is the OnClick of the button:
ShowQuestComplete(GetQuestLogSelection()); WatchFrameAutoQuest_ClearPopUpByLogIndex(GetQuestLogSelection());

With this it should be possible to get the funcionality into the QG tracker.

Weird map bug

This probably is not a QuestGuru bug but i havent figured it out still.
So i looked at the Abandoned quest list, selected quest there, then clicked on the questgiver name that was in blue on the right side info space.
Map opened up but on top of the map there is visible my TitanPanel upper and lower bars and the wow UI additional button bars - bottom left & right and rightbar 1 & 2, plus the PingMonitor addons little window.
When i open map normally, all is correct, map is on top of all, but when i toggle map to the lowsize, and unlock it, then moving the small map around it is also below these same screen objects.

EDIT: Well this seems to be Blizzard bug, it also happens with no addons loaded.

BUG:The quest "Eliminate the Outcast" in Southern Stranglethorn Vale does not work with QG enabled.

This is one of those multipart quests that have it updated on the fly, without you going back to the Quest Starter.

I am going to assume that Quest Guru 1.5.1 does NOT support those mutli-part quest?

Edit:
I just realize this is due to the TRACKER interference, which I saw further down...

Please add a note in the Description Section that there is a problem with this.

When this happened to me, I had to go find some questguru luas and delete them. "reset"ing the addon fixed that for me. you'll have to re-click to track anything you actually /want/ to track, but that's how i was able to un-track completed achieves.
Thanks for the tip, I deleted the tracker.lua (silly that I didn't think of that myself) and while I did have to set the tracker's options again it did get rid of the achievements. ^^

preservation

Just a heads up that I uploaded a QuestGuru 2.0 I'd been maintaining privately,
and a slightly modified QuestGuru_Tracker v1.5.1 that works with QG2 and doesn't taint.

That was before seeing the last few comments and in particular
MrObrian saying he will try to bring it back from the dead himself.

Great news

If there's anything of use (especially regarding Tracker source of taint and workaround)
feel free to take what you need.

It's under Optional Files here

I will obviously take it down regardless, the moment we have a new official QuestGuru 2.x and/or tracker.

Good to see you're still working on fixes MrObrian.
One little thing that would be good to see is a changed position of the MobMap buttons. I've made a modification to the tracker to position the button inside the tracker rather than left of it where it is overlapping the questitem buttons.

I changed line 1134 in QGT_Quests.lua to the following:
if (IsAddOnLoaded("MobMap") and (mobmap_hide_questtracker_buttons == false))
then QGT_QuestWatchFrame:SetWidth(276);
else QGT_QuestWatchFrame:SetWidth(256);
end

and line 1169:
button:SetPoint("RIGHT","QGT_QuestWatchLine"..i,"RIGHT",24,0);

@ Maelynn re "on one alt I still have 2 Hallow's End achievements in my tracker"
When this happened to me, I had to go find some questguru luas and delete them. "reset"ing the addon fixed that for me. you'll have to re-click to track anything you actually /want/ to track, but that's how i was able to un-track completed achieves.

@ mrobrian re possibility of tracker not dying entirely: : D
