Bongos3  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.3
by: Tuller [More]

I have written a new action bar addon, called Dominos, and am no longer supporting this one. Please feel free to try it out, along with Trinity Bars, and Bartender 3

Bongos3 is a main action bar replacement designed be both powerful, yet lightweight and easy to use.

Have Questions? Check out the wiki first!

Included Addons:

  • Bongos - The core addon.
  • Bongos_AB - The action bar portion of Bongos.
  • Bongos_CastBar - A casting bar replacement. Colors the bar based on if the spell being cast is helpful, harmful or neutral. Also includes a timer.
  • Bongos_RollBar - Makes the dialogs that pop up when rolling on items movable.
  • Bongos_Stats - A movable framerate, latency, and addon memory usage indicator.
  • Bongos_XP -A movable experience/reputation bar.
  • Bongos_Options - A load on demand options menu.

Features
  • Every bar can be moved, hidden, and have its scale and opacity altered
  • Sticky bars - Each bar can be anchored to any other bar
  • 120 action buttons, which can be setup in any number of bars
  • Customizable stance transitions and state visibility for each action bar
  • Buff and debuff highlighting on action buttons

1.3
* Bugfixes

1.2d
* Updated keybound

1.2c
* Corrected zip file structure

* Added jailborc's XP bar modifications
* Fixed errors with the class bar under the case of a class with no classbar skills.

1.1
* Fixed a bug causing my upgrade code not to run. If you're upgrading from 1.0 to 1.1, please make sure you've set a bar as the possess bar
* Fixed typo

1.0
* The possess bar will now default to the pet bar if no action bar has been set to act as it
* You can now only have one possess bar at a time
* Bongos now fires two Ace3 messages: BONGOS_LOCK_ENABLE and BONGOS_LOCK_DISABLE

Gamma.1
* Fixed some grammar issues

Beta.12
* Fixed a bug causing disabling sticky bars causing bars to move out of place
* Fixed bug causing bindings to clear on a new version update
* Fixed a bug causing bindings to not disable properly when removing a button or loading a profile
* Added an option to show tooltips only in combat
* Slightly tweaked the interface options menu

Beta.11
* Added an option to make the pet bar act as the possess bar
* Made the binding and config mode dialogs movable
* Fixed a bug for new users

Beta 10:
* Added a Page slider to each stance menu, tried to make the bar creation help more informative/noticeable.

Beta 9:
* Replaced the term Action Set with paging, and altered all of the stance sliders to say Page X instead of simply X
* Differentiated Page 1 from the default state of do nothing, called Disabled.
* Changed the format used for creating the right click menu for action bars to be table driven. Take a look at Bongos_AB/actionBarConfig.lua if you wanna edit it.

Greetings again. Reading the download page after playing with the addon, I have figured out the answers to my questions below about what and why for the Cast Bar and Roll Bar. Oddly, the language in the Wiki page left me a little mystified until I had worked with the plugin a bit. Still hoping for an answer to the various other questions. Thanks!

Actually, I'll quote 'em here so as to add another Question to them here.

Edited to add in original posts (modified) and add a question \/.

- Is there a way to use the default keyring symbol instead of the blue bag?
- Can the text on the XP bar configured (e.g. I don't need the % value and would like to make the bar smaller)? (Mac Edit - Bar is clearly resizable. Don;t know about text config)
- With regards to the XP bar, could it also be given a nice frame, e.g. like the new casting bar?

Other than that a really nice bar addon (I also liked the options TrintyBars had with adding buttons to fold/unfold whole bars but overall Bongos3 is simpler to use).

EDIT: BTW nice comments in the actionBarConfig.lua. I managed to easily add the option for switching to an additional bar by pressing CTRL + ALT.
Mac Edit: Answers to "what is the Cast Bar / Roll Bar" became self-evident with tinkering and reading other forii

Edit: Yes I have seen that the XP bar is resizable, but I'd be interested in the frame option also. Missing my bubbles. LOL...

And while I'm at it, anyone have a clue as to how to get the thread to keep the options I've selected? (i.e. Flat Threaded, Oldest posts first?) It keeps resetting to Newest first every time I reload the page. I know I'm missing something...

Popup tooltips associated with the various buttons and functions would really be useful for those of us who are just learning our way around Bongos. Will they be incorporated into the full release?
New Question: Is there a way to enter an argument that allows an Action Bar to page under two different states? That is, can I set an Action bar that will be seen on page one out of combat, on poage 2 in combat, but can still be manually flipped back and forth in case I want to in or out of combat? I've figured out how to do one or ther other, but I'm having trouble figuring out if it's possible to do both. Thanks again!

Hope to hear from you soon. (Off to post on OmniCC page)

That involves hacking the state menu (there's some information about that at the end of the wiki), and adding in [combat] and [nocombat] after the page states. That way, the page states are checked before the combat ones.

Keyring button will not be able to be altered. I really cannot make the bag bar be able to have its layout altered if I do make it the normal button.

The experience bar, I want to do more with it eventually, but not right now. Anyone can feel free to make a new version of it for me :P

Tooltips - Tip of the day style ones I try to avoid. Everything in Bongos should be self evident. The fact that I need the popup box when in config mode is a failure on my part.

Anyone experience anything like this with bongos 3. I am using the latest bongos 3 also.
I don't touch the zone bar. Perhaps you're using Bongos Cornucopia?
This user reported this bug some days ago at Cornucopia page. I told him that it could be something related to the Bongos Core, because Cornucopia doesn't hide/show to zone bar, it just creates a bar and attaches the zone frame to it.
The only explanations I can see are:
  • Bongos Core bug
  • Addon interference

Thanks kindly for your reply. I thoroughly understand about the keyring and having higher priorities than prettifying the XP Bar. If I can figure out skinning for WoW, maybe I'll give it a shot. I'll take another look at the Wiki and see if I can figure the hack out. I'm no code whiz, but as I read further into all this much of it seems to make enough sense to get through even my slow comprehension.

Far as tooltips go, They do add a quicker comprehension for those of us just experiencing some of the subtleties of game play for the first time. No question you've done a great job of creating a largely self-evident and easy to use interface, but sometimes having your hand held as you're getting your feet wet (excuse the mixed metaphor) helps ease the information overload. I downloaded a variety of mods on the same day after discovering their existence. All of them are beginning to streamline my gaming experience, but figuring out how best to customize some of the more configurable ones can be a bit of a head scratcher even with a well designed and simple to use interface. Took me two days to figure out some of the better applications of Bongos 3 for my own use. A bit more guidance or example presentation would have eased that learning curve. Not a criticism, just a comment from one on the other end of the bell curve from a guy who knows the game inside and out and may think that everyone knows it as well...

Obviously, I think well enough of the mod and of its' author to ask the questions and to respond. Thanks for an amazing mod, and thanks again for the reply and the explanations.

Bug Report

First of all thanks for the amazing work you've been doing with Bongos. I'm not sure if this is the proper place for a bug report, but seeing that the bug tracker linked from the wiki page seems abandoned, I thought of writing here.

A minor localization error in Bongos_AB/localization/localization.lua, line 47:
L.ShowEmptyButtons = 'Show Emtpy Buttons'
Should be:
L.ShowEmptyButtons = 'Show Empty Buttons'

Also, you made some changes to the possess bar, but at least for those upgrading from gamma.1 to 1.0 there is no default possess bar selected, which results in getting neither a pet bar nor a possess bar when we gain control of someone. Maybe you should add a check to see if no bar is enabled to "act as possess bar" and then allow the pet bar to show?

Err, how does it look abandoned? :P

That's a bug My upgrade code decided that it was not going to run The pet bar should be defaulting to the first action bar if it does not run, however.

Other than the keyring, I don't touch the bag bar. So, any addon that would implement that functionality should work.

The reason blizzard shows a maximum of 999 is because if they show more, it has the chance of the text overlapping into the next slot, which would look bad

Countdowns

I just redid all my addons, and got Bongos 3 this time. I previously had a countdown that displayed 'Xmin' on a button until it started counting down from '59'. Is this something that Bongos was doing for me? I do not like the 'second hand type wipe' that I get now, I want it to show me the numbers on a button to indicate cooldown.
