LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Re: FPS drop when viewing quest log

Just adding another voice to this... I'm having the exact same issues that Riadh mentions here. HUGE FPS drop. EveryQuest opens up lightheaded, and it only shows the selected quest for a fraction of a second before the quest log flips to the quest that was already selected in the quest log. I've had to uninstall LightHeaded for now because it's just really messing up the FPS to the point of things being unplayable.

I cannot be certain that Lightheaded is the sole culprit, but here's the scenario:

Lightheaded - r315
EveryQuest - r167
TomTom - v40000-1.0.0
AtlasQuest - 4.5.0 Beta

After the 4.0.1 patch, I deleted my WTF folder entirly and started fresh. Since then, I've been explicitly using alpha releases (if available) via the Curse Client, checking for updates daily or visiting WoW interface. I am using no other quest related add-ons, though I am using CT Mod to move my objectives list around.

Problem:

1) As others have mentioned, I'm seeing a 80% to 90% drop in FPS when I open my quest log.

2) Also, when I select a quest in the EveryQuest interface that is not yet in my quest log, it will open up my quest log and Lightheaded (as expected). For a brief second, I will see the wowhead details of the quest in Lightheaded, but almost immediately after I will then see the wowhead details of whatever quest is highlighted. It essentially makes it so that I cannot look at the details of quests I haven't yet accepted.

Steps tried so far:
- I tried uninstalling Lightheaded via the Curse Client (also physically browsed the WTF account and character folders to verify that all files were removed).
- After reinstall of r315, I'm still having the same problem.

Please let me know if there is any other information (like .lua files) that I can provide.

Thank you.

tried modifying the saved variables file,
no joy.
What is the difference from from one character to
the next. My brain hurts.
I'm missing something but I can't figure out what.

Disabling addons doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Here is an excerpt from the LH saved variables .lua file.

Shpaaka is the character with the problem. The other 2 are fine.

Not even remotely close! There is no I/O in the WoW client. All comment and quest data is contained in addons that are dynamically loaded, and the information retrieved. Nothing has changed with the way this has been done for quite some time, so it's probably nothing to do with Admin mode.

I'll have to try that as soon as I get home. I don't mind whatever troubleshooting steps you suggest.

In the interim, however, other things I thought I should note:

- This is on Windows Vista 32.
- Ever since 4.0.1 dropped I've had to run WoW in administrator mode (not surprising, I had to do the same with the beta).

None of the characters are in any type of instance.
1 in Northrend, 3 in Eastern Kingdom, 3 in Kalmidor.
Nothing in common with the problem.
2 are in Thunder Bluff. 1 experiences the problem and
1 does not. I guess I need to start disabling the other
addons 1 by 1 to see if the problem goes away.
That would at least tell me where to look for it.

Right-click and unlock them. This doesn't have anything to do with LH however =)

I have kind of a weird issue. Using Lightheaded and Tomtom(latest updates).
I have 6 or 7 different toons. On about 4 of them things are working the
way they always have. In the Lightheaded window attached to the quest log
I can click on a highlighted link and either go there or if it's coords they
get fed to the Tomtom arrow. On the other toons if I click on a link, nothing
happens. If I mouse over coords an empty tooltip frame comes up and I can't
click and feed the coords to Tomtom. As far as I can tell all the toons are
configured the same for Lightheaded and Tomtom. I've looked at the WOW interface
settings also and they look the same. I've even tried doing a stare and compare
at the saved variables files for all the different toons and I haven't been able
to find anything there either.
Has anyone else seen this? What am I missing? Doesn't seem like a Lightheaded or Tomtom issue but I'm at a complete loss to figure it out right now.
I'm thinking that some other addon is firing the tooltip and messing up the link but since I use the same addons for all the toons it would have to be a configuration issue. I can post a list of addons but I didn't want to bore everyone unless someone has an idea what might be causing this.

Please help if you can.

Told you it was weird.
Are any of the other characters in instances or starting areas that count as instances, such as the Death Knight starting area?

What was suggested was NOT deleting the code and reinstalling them. It was a complete wipe of WTF combined with a reinstall of the addon. Nowhere did you state you did this, so I had no choice but to assume you didn't. Given that I cannot reproduce the issue you are having and I've had no other reports, other than the one user who fixed it by using the above method, how else am I supposed to respond?

As a side not maybe you should not just assume someone did not do what another person did just because they did not specifically state every little step. Using caps like that at me I consider an insult. I have been building computers/networks for 20 years and what the other person said is the most insane basic troubleshooting step you can possibly imagine. [/b]
How am I supposed to provide support to my users without making assumptions when my users do not provide all of the information I need? How is using caps and underscores for emphasis insulting? How else would you prefer I put *emphasis* on a _word_? You saw it, didn't you? No reason that has to be insulting.

There's a reason that people who are providing you with support are forced to ask you to do the most insane basic troubleshooting steps. It's because you didn't give me any more information. So I have a choice.. I can assume that 95% of my users are like you and have extensive experience, and be frustrated to high heaven when none of them have done any of the basic steps.. or I can provide a level playing field based on the information my users give to me.

You will be hard pressed to find an addon author that makes themselves as available as I do. I'm here to help, but it needs to be a dialogue. I don't see in any instance where I've done anything wrong in this exchange, and I would do it again.

Regardless of how much you know, there was a disconnect between what the other user suggested, and what you were reporting having tried. If at any time had you mentioned that you cleared your WTF folder (which is what fixed the issue for the other user) then perhaps the conversation would have gone differently.
