autotrack  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.1.4
by: hungtar [More]

please accept my apology for abandoning this addon and not answering your support requests.

I don't play wow anymore and thus any request will remain unaswered.

When upgrading from 0.1.2 or earlier do /at switch and /at enable and make sure the options are set correct!

autotrack is an addon for hunters with the talent Improved Tracking. It will try to set your tracking skill to fit your current target.

It should work with any Locale, as long as the creature type to track is a substring of the name of the tracking skill (i.e. "Beast" in "Track Beasts"). As that doesn't work for all locales, there is support for localization since version 0.1.1. However, currently it's only localized for English language.

It can be configured with slash commands. With /autotrack or /at you get an overview of the available commands. If you don't want autotrack to change your tracking every time you target something, do /autotrack switch to disable (or enable) that behaviour.

You can select tracking skills to be automatically set upon entering and leaving of an instance. To do that, first do a /autotrack list, to get a list of available tracking skills and their IDs. Then, set the tracking skills with e.g. /autotrack wt 9 and /autotrack dt 1. To set a tracking skill when leaving combat, you can use /autotrack lct X (with X being the ID of the desired tracking skill).

version 0.1.4:
- added french localization (thanks Coren!).

version 0.1.3:
- option to disable everything.

version 0.1.2:
- fixed two bugs that sneaked in with the localization changes.

version 0.1.1:
- support for localization.

version 0.1.0:
- code cleanup
- fixed bug cause by uninitialized saved variables.
- fixed bug caused by invalid tracking ids.
- added version slash command.

version 0.0.8:
- don't try to set tracking when dead.

version 0.0.7:
- proper use of OnUpdate.

version 0.0.6:
- (hopefully) fixed a bug where tracking was not switched when entering/leaving an instance.

version 0.0.5:
- (re-)added an option so switch tracking when leaving combat. (Set the tracking type you want with /at lct x).

version 0.0.4:
- scraped the option for switching of tracking skill upon entering/leaving combat.
- added option to change tracking skill when entering/leaving a dungeon.

version 0.0.3:
- use real tracking CD instead of guesswork.

version 0.0.2:
- save settings.
- switch tracking back after combat (experimental).
- schedule tracking skill switching if needed.

version 0.0.1:
- first release.

"Improved Tracking – now benefits damage to all included creature types as long as you are tracking one of them. You don’t have to swap around what you are tracking as much. " -Ghostcrawler, 12/09/2008

Ya but some hunters have things like mining and herbalism and I dont believe tracking those imrpoves your damage thus this addon is still useful. Plus if you are farming one specific type of creature its nice to just magically have the tracking turned on for that type of mob if you have the correct abilities to do so. Now this could be considered a lazy addon to use but ultimately I think the word describing this addon is convenience which really, is why we use addons isn't it?

What EvilNapkin was trying to convey is that as long as you are tracking ONE

of the mob types mentioned in the ImpTracking talent, then you will recieve

the dmg bonus to ANY of the mentioned mobs that you fight.

IE: I track beasts and fight undead, i still get the dmg bonus

Get it?

No need to switch to undead, as long as its still on beasts...

AFAIK, switching tracking gives a GCD, so the less switching, the better, no?

You can't switch tracking while you are on GCD but it does not trigger a GCD.

Ability is not ready yet.

First of all, thanks for creating such a useful addon for us hunters.

I have tried/tested autotrack without any other addons running. It does correctly change the tracked unit to whatever I select in-game. The only problem is that every time it switches to a new unit, I get the message "Ability is not ready yet" along with the audio reminder as well.

It certainly does what it was intended to do, but with the constant video & audio reminder - it is just too annoying. Is anybody else getting this?

Thanks for any help.

I made a mistake in my last post in explaining the relation between tracking switching and the GCD.

1. Switching tracking does not trigger the GCD
2. You can't switch tracking while on the GCD.
3. There appears to be an own CD on tracking (like aspects have).

That means you can switch tracking and immeaditly use a spell. But you can't use a spell and then switch tracking. And you can't switch tracking more often then every 1.5 seconds (guessing the 1.5 seconds, somewhere in that neighborhood). That last part is probably what is causing your problem.

You can do one of two things to get rid of the annoying "ability not ready yet" sound.

a) You can disable that error speech in the WoW audio options. Or

b) you can disable the automatic aspect switching by setting autotrack.enabled to false in autotrack.lua and macro some shot with "/autotrack track" so tracking is still switched when you shoot things.

Hope that helps you. Unfortunately, there is no other way to solve this.

Edit: maybe there is another way to handle this. Can't promise anything though.

Switching the tracking every time you switch targets is something the hunter community at large told Blizzard they did not enjoy, because of everything menace97 has posted, as well as interfering with a finely tuned rotation set up for max dps in raids.

So Blizzard gave us the new and improved tracking feature, letting us enjoy the dmg bonus without having to switch it every target, simply turn it on once and pewpew!

Is there any way at all you could modify this addon to do just that? Auto track any mob listed in the ImpTracking Talent only once when entering a dungeon, and then revert to whatever tracking feature we had after exiting?

The constant switching is a no longer needed feature that was/is highly annoying to any hunter with a rotation for max dps ^_^!

Thanks!

The next thing on my todo list is to implement an option to only switch tracking, if your current tracking skill is not one of those that the Improved Tracking talent needs.

But switching when entering / leaving a dungeon sounds good, too. Thats going on my todo/maybe list. Will have to see how that would work. Adding an option to switch tracking back after exiting combat turned out to be not so useful (mainly because autotrack switches to the something before entering combat).

Edit: looks like it would require some kind of localization to get "switching only when needed for Improved Tracking" to work. So thats postponed for now (and probably won't happen at all). But the switching when entering/leaving a dungeon was straight forward to implement (it's in 0.0.4). I also updated the addon info to give some hints how to configure the addon to fit your needs.

Hi, I am a herbalist and would like to have it switch back to Track Herbs when combat is finished. Or even if I could have it switch to Track Herbs when I target a friendly like my pet or myself. Great addon otherwise just please add some functions for those of us that are gatherers!

Regards,
Galgaroth

In 0.0.5, which i just uploaded, that should be possible. Use "/at list" to get the list of tracking skills with their IDs, and use "/at lct X" (where X is the ID of Track Herbs). To disable switching of the tracking skill when leaving combat, use "/at lct 0".

I stumbled across a weird bug, which is (hopefully) fixed in 0.0.6.

If world tracking and dungeon tracking are set to different skills and one of the is a hunter tracking skill and the other is one of those everyone has (find low level quests etc.), the switching used to fail on the later (i.e. when autotrack tried to switch to tracking of low level quests).

That should work now.
