Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)

Twice in the last few days I've gotten a message in the chat pane saying that Swatter has caught a Blocked Action: Addon (altoholic). and that it will continue to catch blocked actions in the future. There's no other data with this, it's not sparking an error message like I usually get, and I wasn't touching altoholic at the time; I have no idea what I did to produce it. I hate bug/reports like this, but I'd rather mention it than not at all...

Known issue. And if you take a look at error report, you'll see that it mention Blizzard Raid Frames, most likely.
Due to hackery Blizzard did to make their raid frames work the way they do, and the very nature of Lua, it's hard to round corners in user-made addons, unfortunatelly. But these should not impact your gameplay.

Looked through code in that place, it does a very simple stuff. My suspect so far is that you got corrupted record in database accidentally.
Otherwise, if this issue is consistent for you, I could try to dig further, unless Thaoky have a better idea.

When I mouse over a recipe, usually the tooltip will report what alts know the recipe and what could learn it and what aren't able to yet. This is, I believe, correct behavior. However, altoholic will often - not all the time - report on the tooltip that an alt could learn a recipe when, in fact, the alt already knows the recipe. It's done this consistently all the time I've used it (for a few years now, ever since I started having enough alts to try to manage). I looked through some back comments, but not all of them, so I don't know if this has been reported before.

It was, and I'm facing this issue myself from time to time.
It is rooted in a fragile way the DataStore is forced to go down to scan for known recipes. When you're using filtering, the list of accessible recipes changed and gets stored that way, until you clear out filtering and have a full scan recorded again.
Unfortunatelly, there's no more reliable way of accessing this data.
You could (to an extent) combat the effect by growing a habit of opening/closing your tradeskills 2-3 times without touching any filters if you've crafted something that have involved filtering, and never close them with filters applied.
This will drastically reduce the chance of unintended clearing of the recipes list.

The only thing I'm trying to disallow is seeing opposite faction data - i.e. seeing what my horde alts have/can do when I'm on an alliance toon. (and i've not gotten that perfect, unfortunately - clicking the 'do not tell about other faction' doesn't seem to do it.)

Ah, ok. I *think* it sometimes still does it *after* it's found it. As in, Toon A is a blacksmith, knows Copper Chain Vest. Has, in fact, *made* copper chain vest - so I've had the profession window open, in fact, to the recipe in question.

On Toon B, when I mouse over "Plans: Copper Chain Vest" (or whatever the particular plans/design/recipe/jargon is) it would tell me "Could be learned by Toon A".

Not that Copper Chain Vest is a culprit, but it's the name I came up with while writing.

I used to use Share Content between my two accounts (one with AH camping alt, and another being my main, 'crafting' account) for crafting queue purposes. I used to send the sharing requests by targetting the character from the seccond account. It all worked perfectly, I would see the amount of items on my AH alt while being logged on my crafter so I could restock apropriately. It all worked fine as long as I was running both accounts on separate computers - I had no problems or errors whatsoever. Unfortunately, once I bought new computer and was able to run two WoWs on the same machine from the same WoW folder, Sharing Content just fails to work. Neither 'target' or 'by name' sharing works. There is no response once I click 'send request'. If I remove the 'always allowed' requester from the sender options and send the request, I can see that the sender has a pop up asking whether to send the data. And even If I agree to send the data, it never arrives to requester, instead I get 'Message box handler not defined' error on sender. Once I run my second account on another computer - Sharing Account miraculously works again. How can I make the sharing work on same computer? scorpionjs A Murloc Raider Forum posts: 4 File comments: 0 Uploads: 0	severe lag when looting I like the addon, but I've had to turn it off. Whenever I, or anyone else loots, I get a severe lag spike, or even a lockup. This makes things unplayable in dungeons where 5 simultaneous loots tend to happen. I tried turning off other loot based addons (loothog, headcount, etc.) but the culprit appears to be altoholic. Does anyone have any ideas? Since it happens when other people loot, I'm hoping there's some odd "gathering" like setting I can turn off.
