This is a relatively simple modification of the minimap to allow adjustment of the shape, transparency, visibility of certain default buttons, scroll-wheel zooming, coordinates display, etc.

Right-click anywhere on the mini-map to display the options menu.

I've made some big behind-the-scenes changes in this version, please read all of these notes.

- Removed FuBar code, there's no need for a minimap button anymore, and that's all I was using FuBar for.
- The position settings are now saved by the UI in the layout cache. Because of this, the minimap initially positions itself in the middle of the screen. I don't want to "fix" this because until you position the minimap the UI doesn't save anything.
- /rmm config or right-clicking the minimap brings up the config menu.
- The first option in the config menu is now "Lock".
- - When this is unchecked, the minimap can be dragged to any position on the screen.
- - The standard minimap buttons can also be dragged around when lock is unchecked. The buttons hug the border of the minimap no matter what shape is selected, but changing shapes doesn't snap out of position buttons (you have to drag them a little). I'm kind proud of this! :)
- - Because the minimap is draggable now, the top gap and right gap options have been removed from the config menu.

To do:
The quest timer, quest watcher and durability paper doll frames are not yet draggable.
The tracker button is big again, when it's resized to match the other buttons, the scale is off for moving it. I'm working on a solution.

- Fixed the FuBar issue
- Added a reset slash command, to reset everything to the defaults
- Added a transparency option. Note that transparency of the minimap has issues if you're not "outdoors" so the minimap automatically sets itself back to 1 if you go into a location the game considers to be indoors. Once to go back to an outdoor area, the transparency is set back to your choosen value.

NOTE: This addon is not currently compatible with Detached Minimap Buttons. The problem lies with DMB's code; see the changelog for that mod and note all of the specific changes the author has had to make for other minimap mods. I've asked the author to take a look at adding a fix to his mod for RMM too. :)

In the near future, I plan to make the standard minimap buttons dragable and I'm experimenting with making the entire minimap cluster dragable too. Don't ask when it'll be ready, I'm taking a tiny break from coding so I can actually play the game again. :P

Warning: When FuBar is loaded, the minimap sometimes moves to a random location near the middle of the screen (this doesn't happen when FuBar is disabled). If this happens to you, just open the config menu and mouse down to the Gap options, the minimap will move back where it's supposed to be (which is weird all by itself) and stay there for the rest of the session. I don't know why this happens, but I thought it was minor enough that I should release this version with the requested fixes rather than hold off while I figure out what FuBar is doing to my minimap.

I fixed the problems with ACE libraries when this was the only ACE addon in use.
I added the ability to move the coordinates text below the minimap.
- When it's below the minimap it has a background.
- When the minimap shape is rounded bottom left, the coordinates are shifted to the right, otherwise they're centered.
- The zoom buttons overlap the coordinates when they're below the minimap, so don't do that. :D
I've also replaced the temporary square minimap image with one of my own.

This has been tested with no other addons enabled, and with all of the addons I use enabled, and no errors have popped up for me. I've added everything I plan to add, so unless someone has a bug to report, this one is done. ;)

All ACE libraries now included, so no more error messages if no other ACE addons are loaded. I've also added options for a fully square and the default round shapes. The square minimap is a temporary borrow from the "simpleMiniMap" mod - I'll replace it with one of my own once I get the blp tools working.

  • Toggle showing your location value
  • Toggle showing the name of the zone you're in
  • Toggle showing the zoom buttons
  • Choose the size of the minimap from 50% to 150% in 25% increments
  • Choose the top gap in 2 pixel increments
  • Choose the right gap in 2 pixel increments

Also:
  • Enables mouse wheel zooming
  • Hides the other fluff around the minimap and snugs it up against the top right corner

Settings are saved universally, not per character or server.

Suggestion

This addon is awesome, it makes my minimap fit nicely in the corner now.

I have a request for this though. Can you make it so that the text is shown so that I can tell what subzone I'm in inside a particular zone.

For instance, I know i'm in "Lakeshire" but I don't want to have to look my my main map ('m') to tell someone I'm at the "Rethban Caverns" subzone.

Thanks! I had no idea this addon would be popular at all, I'm amazed by even the few downloads it's had so far. LOL

I did have the zone name in there at one point, but now I use the LocationFu plugin for FuBar (you can see the last part of the zone name in the screenshot, I was in Thunder Bluff). I am planning to add some config options this weekend and I'll add the zone name back in when I do that. Stay tuned!

How well does it play with minimap icons

I have about half a dozen or more minimap buttons/icons (bc_trackingmenu, census+, etc) I am curious how the buttons appear on this.

They look fine as long as you can move them to the left/bottom. If they're stuck on the right edge, then they might be only partially visible. I only have a few personally, and I jsut replaced bc_trackingmenu with trackerbar in my personal setup so I have one less than I did.

Well, I removed the buttons when I added the ability to zoom in and out with the mouse wheel. I'll add the zoom buttons back as an option in the next update.

I saw that, so I did that with my Fubar too. Also, if you're having problems with your minimap buttons, get http://www.wowinterface.com/download...fo.php?id=5367 and you can move your minimap buttons where ever you want.

Only problem with moving the minimap to the right, you also move the Quest Tracking, and various other (And, imho, less important) frames right off the side of the screen.

I know these frames can be moved, as Detached Minimap Buttons does it, so I wonder if you could write into the mod to move at least the Quest Tracking frame to the left as many pixels (Or percentage, however it works) as you move the minimap to the right.

I don't use the standard quest tracker so I completely missed that! But it's easily fixed, no problem at all. I'll try to get an update out tonight.

Are there any other frames that need to be addressed? What about the little image that shows durability when your items are really damaged? I don't think I've even seen that thing in over a year, so I don't know if it's attached to the minimap or not.

[edit] Well, it is turning out harder than I thought, and I'm not sure what the problem is. I can move the Quest Tracker to the left side of the screen, but attempts to move it left from the right side of the screen are ignored. So, this will take a little longer than I thought.

I run the game in a 1600x1000 window and the Quest tracker is fully visible for me... what resolution are you running in?

The really weird thing is I don't have this issue in the BC beta version of this mod.

Thanks for the feedback Gothic! The BC version actually is a little different than the 1.12 version, but I'm gradually merging the two. My test version does have some of the extra hides, I'll add the rest you mentioned. My BC Hunter now has a pet, so I was distracted with the FuBar addon I wrote for Pets and didn't finish the minimap stuff, kinda got carried away with the play, rather than the code.

Can you do me a favor and add new comments about the BC version in that mod's thread instead of this one? If I knew how to move comments I'd move these there as well.

This is really a nice minimap mod.

I have some important suggestions to make it better.
  1. Zone names in other languages have alot more characters and often dont fit at all. Please change the fontsize alittle and move the start abit more left.
  2. The display of location coordinates collides with map notes and gatherer icons. Please move it downwards so the botton of the numbers are the edge of minimap.
  3. Option to display location coordinates as integers only.

Question:
Can the size of the track icon for minerals, animals, humans be changed ? Its alot bigger as alle the other icons(mail, fishing buddy, gatherer).

Hi Salmoni,

Those are good suggestions, I'll add them in with the other changes I'm making to the BC beta version of this mod. Once the 2.0 patch goes live, I'm confident the BC version will work then, so I've sort of stopped working on this 1.12 version. One of the things I've changed is to just re-enable the default UI zone text, rather than re-creating it like this version does. Are the zone names visible the way you want them with the standard mini-map, or does even the default text style need tweaking? I've also already reduced the size of the tracking button. I'm adding an ACE2 config menu so making these kinds of changes will be a lot easier. I'll include location values for the various parts too!

You're right though, this won't be ready to release for a while yet, so the line you want to change for the location numbers is in RicoMiniMap.xml, line 24.

Another suggestion I would add is the ability to relocate the minimap or allow it to be moved by FuBar's auto frame adjustment. My FuBar is cutting off the top of my minimap, and I don't want to have to download a separate mod just to move it down a little bit.

I would agree with the tracking icons. They look really ugly on my machine, with the border of the minimap overlapping the middle of the icon, besides the fact that they're huge.

The problem was that FuBar wasn't just moving my minimap down a few pixels, it was moving it almost to the center of the screen. Even when I turned off the option for FuBar to move the minimap. So, I put in code that made sure my minimap was where I wanted it, no matter what else tried to move it.

I'm adding a lot of new stuff to the Burning Crusade verison of this mod, which of course will be available to everyone once the 2.0 patch hits the live server. I hope you can wait until then. The 2.0 version reduces the size of the tracker button, has a config menu, allows you to reposition the minimap, and more.
