Tidy Plates: Link Theme

Version: 5.0.1
by: danltiger [More]

This is a theme package for Tidy Plates. It transforms your unit nameplates into a row of hearts (Zeldaish!).

(Note: This page used to support Tidy Plates: Heart Theme, but a newer version can be found, here. I decided to recycle this page, since I can't seem to delete my unneeded ones)

Installation:

Unzip into your Addons folder, and it will override Tidy Plate's default theme. To enable the threat glow, make sure you go into your Interface panel, and select: Display > Display Aggro Warning > Always

1.2: Plates are smaller; 55% of the original size.

This looks very very cool. I think I'll try this out today. Only feedback I can truly give at the moment is I wish it had lvl text on it so my lower lvl's could use it.

Edit- after using this I have to ask... can you make it smaller? I see yellow hearts that are huge but belong to a squirrel...

Haha, yeah, I was playing around with this a little more, and I see what you mean. I made this as a concept design skin for Tidy Plates, since I'm trying to develop a skinning system (the original software was a hard-coded appearance).

The glass effect turned out so nice that I thought, "Man, I should put this up.."

Anyway, I'm rambling...

I've changed the size to 55% of original. I hadn't really designed some place for the level text to sit, so I'm leaving it off, for the time-being. You can enable it pretty easily by popping open the "heartskin.lua" file, scrolling to the bottom, and changing "showLeveltext = false" to "= true". The config file is pretty easy to follow, if you feel like playing around with it. Eventually, there will be a graphical configuration tool in the Interface Options panel. For now, Notepad will have to work..

nice! I'm using the original as we speak.. cant wait till the smaller one is up. And yes I agree with you on the glossy look, it's very very nice.
If I can figure out the lvl txt then I'll prolly switch to this... I don't like aloft because the ones that look nice use tons of memory so I've been using defualt but that's boring. This reminds me of zelda I love zelda!

I had a thought on positioning for the level text and other texts (like percent of health left, etc): perhaps put smaller hearts around the other heart, like the classic multi hearts that are put up on cartoon characters that are in love? Maybe level text to the upper right, and the percent to the bottom left? Asymmetrical is really what I'm going for there; I can submit a mockup if you like. Looks nice, but I really like Aloft's customization better (a little OCD); I don't have the memory issues though, and I'm not too concerned, since I have a lot of memory to use up with WoW. But great job, and you're right the glossy look looks freakin' awesome! Keep up the great work. If you put other skins up I might look into trying this out.

Yes, I'd definitely like to see your design!

As far as Aloft goes; I used it myself for a long time, and it's a very nice bit of software. I don't want to invent the wheel twice, of course, so figuring out Tidy Plate's niche will be interesting.

This little dancing banana guy in the smilies menu, makes me think that'd it'd be fun to do a fruit/vegetable theme. Chili peppers or Eggplant for enemies (Bayou Billy!), bananas for neutral NPC's, green apples for friendly npcs, etc..

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous, haha... well, so am I..

I'm glad the performance has been good! That was my original goal with Tidy Plates; To have a design similar to the one I used in Aloft, but with lightweight code.

I'll be playing around with this theme, and others, so keep an eye out! :-)

Doesn't work for me.

Such a shame. Could you parhaps explain better how to install this? I'm by all means no addon noob, but simply placing this in my addon folder isn't the correct way.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Bhalial

It requires you to also install the addon Tidy Plates. Hope that helps!

As I said, I'm no addon noob. Ofcourse I installed TidyPlates

Still, it chooses the default skin from TidyPlates instead of Heartplates.

I'll assume you've made sure both are the most recent version, too.

I think I know what the problem is, and I'll take a look at the code during lunch break. Should have something up in a couple hours..

I sent you a PM here with a link to the mockup of hearts that I suggested. Just in case you're like me and hardly ever see that little message at the top.

I haven't tried this out yet, but I was looking at the screen shots and it appears that the hears deplete horizontally. Would there be anyway to make the hearts deplete vertically...

You could add some frills (is that the word?) off the hearts giving you a space on either side to place the information. I don't know how to describe it, and I'm not an artist so I can't make a mockup... Like lines in the background that go off and circle amongst itself.

I'd like to see a celtic skin of some sort using celtic artwork like a Tree (similar to the symbol for The Race of Men, I think, in the LOTR movies. It could have been the Elves... Can't remember right now.

Nice idea -- will give it a try sometime.

Thanks VPR -

Still working on an alternative configuration for this skin. However, I may just leave this one as is - minimalist - and designed one from the start to carry more information.

More designs are coming :-)

Also, vertical status bars have been a challenge. I've observed the behavior between the vertical and horizontal settings to be different. In the horizontal config, the game crops the statusbar artwork for the relative width of the bar. In the vertical config - SetOrientation("VERTICAL") - it merely shifts the artwork down, clipping off the bottom, and mis-aligning the carefully designed alpha channel. So, for vertical bars, I've restricted my designs to rectangular shapes.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Hey Bhal - I'd updated this (and Tidy Plates). I'm hoping that your problem is now solved; I made sure the event handler was triggering the module discovery AFTER all the variables were loaded.
