Chatterbox  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.14
by: seebs, Zhiva

Chatterbox is a successor to AnnoyRP; it detects events and responds to them by, for instance, saying witty things. You could "/party Ow." when you die. You could say various funny things when draining souls.

By default, Chatterbox uses a low chance (about 5%) of saying anything at all in response to events. Trust me! THIS IS A GOOD THING.

Chatterbox seems to be stable!

Feedback is welcome.

Upcoming features:
Some way to share events between characters.

0.14:
* Changed font so {} and [] can be told apart.
* "Interrupt" event type reworked: now watches for SPELL_INTERRUPT combat log event, instead of UNIT_SPELLCAST_INTERRUPTED unit event. This allows to pass interrupting spell, interrupting spell source, interrupted spell and interrupted target as ${ability}, ${source}, ${info} and ${target}. Old functionality is still available as "Interrupted" type. Please be cautious when using both "Interrupt" and "Interrupted", they may clash.
* Added new event type: "Summon". It corresponds to SPELL_SUMMON combat log event. Use ${ability} and ${target} to pass summoning spell name and summoned creature name. Examples:
I choose you, ${target}!
Yes, ${target}, it is in your contract!
Event is triggered by hunter pet summons, warlock demon summons, shaman totems etc. As usual, if you want to create an event for particular summon, write its ability or target in corresponding event field.

0.13:
* TOC for 4.0.
* Fixed for 4.0 API.
* Fixed editing of throttle value.
* Fixed displaying of options.
* Debug options now are saved between sessions.
* Added tooltips to "Fast" and "Pass" checkbuttons.
-------
Implemented /cbx say and /cbx psay (to say something from a chatter list either unconditionally or with a given percentage chance), fixed a few bugs. Sorry for the delay, folks.

Works with WotLK now (the tab interface and scroll interface both changed).

A fan

I am very much looking forward to seeing this complete. I love using AnnoyRP and I think the new design and methods you have in ChatterBox are nice improvements.
Thank you for your effort and hard work

Thanks!

There's a bunch of stuff left to work on, but this design is SO much better than the old one.

I should point out that a couple of features are going away (shared chatter lists, and "global" events used by all characters). I never used them, I doubt anyone else did either.

I'm still working on producing enough events to make sure I understand the event system, so I can expand on the documentation more.

I should have something closer to a functional beta next weekend or so. I might get some time to mess around over xmas, but I mostly work this week.

Greetings! I must say, I love this AddOn! But...

When I started using it, it turned out to be rather difficult to understand, but that's ok, I'm just stupid. I figured that using the events-thingy would be much easier for me to add events. But now, without even doing anything with -that- event, it keeps saying I'm casting my mount, though I'm not... So after a good fight, I can't check my events to import from there.

Plus, when I drag a spell/abilitie into the tabs, it gives an error, I haven't written it down yet, but I'll try. Any ideas?

Keep up the (good) work though!

The "keeps saying it's casting" thing should be fixed. Sorry, plain old bug.

Talking Re: A fan

yes! Thank you,

I keep getting spam that tells me

C Box: True?

I am having trouble understanding how to set up events too I guess. I like the addon very much though.

Updating?

Good addon, took a little bit to play with but I eventually figured out. A more extensive help in .txt format may benefit.

Also, when I add new conditionals I always have to /console reloadui to get them to show up in the UI of the addon. Not a big deal, and I don't use many addons (mostly Ace for Cartographer, ElksBuff, Omen, and another for LunarSphere). Can't seem to figure out which is causing the issue, or if anyone else is having similar problems.

Will there be an update for 2.4? Doesn't seem broken, but I know they extensively reworked the combat system (which I know I use a lot to RP my Warrior "oh sh--" moves ;D).

To answer your question, yes, there's an update. Should fix a handful of bugs, as well as working with 2.4.

I've been really busy, and will be for another month or two, so fixes (such as the much needed help updates) will be a while, but I do check back sometimes!

If you get something saying "true?" or "false?", it means that you will have a recent event in your history that says "true" or "false" for one of the fields, and that's a bug -- if you can tell me what the event is, I might be able to fix it.

Whoops!

I did do some searches when I made this, and I hadn't found any other mods named Chatterbox yet.

heh Well, it looks like the Ace author changed his to Chatter, so shouldn't be any conflicts with WAU users.

There are two addons named "amp", too, and neither author seems willing to change their addon's name. Unfortunately, WAU could care less and updates with what it has listed as "amp", which unfortunately is not where Tekkub repo's his addons.

Bugginess with kills

I am not sure how to fix this, but when I am near anyone who kills anything, it sets off my kill chatter (death type with "." as the target, as recommended in the help file). I've done a bit of experimenting and cannot find a way around this.

Is there any way that I can make it only go off when I land the killing blow, or when I was involved in killing it?

Took me awhile to understand how it works, then i discovered that the chatter box in the Events tab is where you enter the name of the chatter you want it to say, so say you called a chatter GNOME, enter GNOME here.

On the Chatter tab you should have a chatter with the name GNOME and when you click edit something should be written in the text box, like /s GNOMES ROCK.

Is there a way to set it to say something when you are about to die, rather than when you are dead?

I used global events! Global events were absolutely GREAT for common events that didn't require specific things to be said. For example, I had things like "warrior_heroicstrike" or "mage_fireball". Awr... Well, I'll give Chatterbox a try. If I don't like it, I guess I'll go back to AnnoyRP 0.28...

And yes, I only just now found out about this because I never read posts on Curse. X_x;

Edit: Nooooo...nope, sorry. I'm sticking with AnnoyRP for now. I have far too many Global events to just toss 'em or duplicate them when it's not necessary... Chatterbox just sort of made everything bigger and needlessly more complex for me, honestly. I'll be keeping an eye on this addon, but unless something changes, I'll stick with AnnoyRP. Thank you for keeping BOTH up, though.

It's supposed to be doing it only for party members -- could be a bug, though. Hmm. I will have to have a look at this.
