NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.

Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.

Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.

To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.

“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.

Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.

Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.

Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.

New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

- Tables of rares in the Search configuration pane are now sortable by clicking their column headers.
- Default options now only add tamable custom mobs like Arcturis and Skoll for hunters. Hold shift while reverting to defaults to override this.
- Added Bro'Gaz the Clanless as a default for Outlands.
- Added zhTW localization by s8095324.
- The found alert button now scales with your global UI Scale setting.
- Removed control over RareSpawnOverlay.
- Custom NPCs are now identified by NPC ID instead of their names. Typed names are now case-sensitive.
- Alerts for humanoid rares that used to look solid white now appear properly clothed once the mob is targeted.
3.3.0.4:
- The targeting button now marks the rare with a green triangle when clicked.
- Fixed an issue with horizontal scrolling in the rare mob list.

- Now continues searching for rares in 5-man dungeons. Raid dungeons, battlegrounds, and arenas will still disable scanning, however.
3.1.0.1:
- Achievements to kill rares now have their own lists in the options window.
- Added slash commands to add and remove NPCs from the custom tracking list: “/npcscan add <NpcID> <Name>” and “/npcscan remove <Name>”
- You can now add tamable mobs to your search list and toggle them all using a “Search for tamable NPCs” setting.
- Found alerts for tamable mobs will note that they are tamable and may be false alarms.
- Added an option to suppress the “already cached” log-in alert.
- Added Gondria to the default rare list, and updated some rares that are now tamable in 3.1.

That's awesome and you should consider putting it up as optional download Cheers Edit: last time I went into the wailing caverns entrance cave, boahn and trigore were there and both weren't cached but I got no alarm. Not sure if there is some sort of problem with the subzone of the dungeon itself and the pre-cave. Edit2: after some thinking it became clear that I must have chached those two mobs while flying over the cave, being in the wrong zone, namely barrens! Last edited by IRID1UM : 02-03-11 at 11:29 AM.

You couldn't have explained that any better. Thank you SO much!!

EDIT: Is yours a complete list? Also wondering (not a big deal by any means) for the ones you added, if they're in a specific zone, did you add that into NPCScan or not? Just curious

EDIT: WIth this new list in place, will (or should) NPCScan go off, even for neutral/tameable mobs, providing I'm not a hunter? Or will I have to reset settings holding the shift key? (And if I reset settings, will it erase any of the custom mobs I've added?)

Each character has its own settings file at <World of Warcraft/WTF/Account/AccountName/ServerName/CharacterName/SavedVariables/_NPCScan.lua>, where AccountName, ServerName, and CharacterName match that character. Replace each of those files with this one while your game is turned off.

Sorry, I'm not very good with editing code or files... if I want to add that list below of all IRID1UM's rare mobs, I'd select the list starting and ending where... and what file would I paste it into? I want NPCScan to be able to find any/all of them on each of my toons... thanks!

If you're not a hunter, you have to, either, add them manually or reset settings holding Shift key.

If you want to use my list below, which also includes all rares that come with the addon, just navigate to your char in the WTF directory and replace the contents of your _npcscan.lua file. Adding one by one would be kinda tedious

It is a snap of SavedVariables for addon.
You may only copy-paste blocks from NPCs and NPCWorldIDs.
Watch where you copy-pasting them, though.
If you've applied a fix to have global rares list, you'll want the SV file under account name, not under each character name.

As for old world rares I can attach my list of the rare spawns I've entered so far. It doesnt include (by far) all of them, but quite some.
Also, respawn timers seem to have been shortened since cata on some or all rares.

hjp426 A Kobold Labourer Forum posts: 0 File comments: 44 Uploads: 0	I know that the rare raptors do not drop their respective pets anymore, but that their nests do... couldn't they have been left on there, so people at least can know where to look for them? Also, are there any plans to add old world rare elites? Been seeing a lot more since Cata came out (seems like they added more, whether they did or not, I don't know), and they're sometimes fun to kill anyway.
