Muted Sounds - Combat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r18
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all* combat sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds (and also boss speeches!).
I tried to filter out all boss emotes and speeches/events in this version. Mistakes may happen of course, but I'm quite happy with it.

If you want 100% muted ingame sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It may not remove 100% of the combat sounds, especially if Blizzard decided to add a new spell or alter existing ones. Some sounds are pesky little buggers that hide somewhere else. If you identify them, let me know, and I will add them to this file.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Changelog:
[r18]
- Blizzard partly reversed the changes in 4.3.3 for patch 4.3.4. Happy times.

[r17]
- Patch 4.3.3 required a rather significant update

[r16]
- No more Deathy burping sounds!

[r15]
- The fishing bobber sounds were accidently muted in the last revisions. They are now audible once again.

[r14]
- Identified and added 114 WAV sound files, which WoW now seems to prefer over OGG files.

[r13]
- Added a few missing files.
- File now available again on WoWInterface

[r12]
- Updated to patch 4.3.2. There might a few bugs.
- File wasn't available on WoWInterface

[r11]
- Updated to patch 4.3 final

[r10]
- Updated to PTR patch 4.3

[r9]
- Removed Druid of the Flame death sounds
- Removed Druid of the Flame scorpion transformation sounds
- Removed various explosion-like sounds (exploding fireballs, jumping cats impacts and for whatever other spells they may used that)

[r8]
- Updated for patch 4.2

[r7]
- Updated for patch 4.1
- Removed the Singing Sunflower sounds

[r6]
- Removed new Ring of Frost sounds
- Removed new RockWorm sounds (Pebble, Corborus)
- Finally found the Valiona&Theralion Twilight Zone sound!
- Hopefully found the Cho'gall phase2 sound!
- Removed the sound emote from Nefarian's Dominion spell (heroic mode only). He gets kind of spammy there.

[r5]
- Removed the party member targetting sounds
- Removed two "roar" sounds (Yeti and Mammoth)

[r4]
- Updated for Cataclysm!
- Re-enabled a sound file which is used by Deadly BossMods

- "DeathImpact" sounds removed (fallover sounds)

[r2]
- Horn of Winter removed
- Fan of Knives removed
- Some warrior ability removed (Raging Blow?)
- Few more files, no clue which exactly

[r1]

Optional Files (0)

Is there any chance you know of a version of this that doesn't mute player emotes?

I'm quite fond of those, I really just want the combat sounds muted and nothing else.

I may have found a solution, at least a quick run in LFR showed no problems.
WoW seems to have become really picky now about the sound file specs, reducing the sample rate from 44100 Hz to 22050 Hz seems to have done it.

I'll know more after tonight's raid.

Ye, removing the whole sounds folder seems to fix the issue. It even bugs out with ogg files only.

Yes, I have the same problem.
Seems Blizzard has changed things around again, this time it's that they're only looking for .ogg files in the /Sound directory and dropped support for .wav files.

... unfortunately this doesn't help the problem at all, the addon already contains both .ogg and .wav files. So it simply seems that Blizzard introduced a new bug with this patch.

Maybe this thread will contain a solution at one point, but so far I haven't found any:

4.3.3 changes?

Since today's small patch 4.3.3, I have no boss emotes and various sounds only makes sounds at random times. For example: I have footsteps enabled and I hear them every once in awhile, I have interface sounds, like opening and closing window and I only hear them every once in awhile. I have Female tauren laugh enabled and I do not hear it in Org but I can hear it when I leave Org.
Thanks for any help or updates.

I'm not hearing any of the sounds you've mentioned, but I think I remember that a few patches ago at least some of those sounds were changed and I had to update the addon to make them silent again.

Just make sure that you've downloaded the most recent version and installed it correctly.

Right, I forgot about that. Going to add it back in for the next release.
For the time being, just delete the following files to enable it again:

\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_1.ogg
\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_1.wav

\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_2.ogg
\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_2.wav

\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_3.ogg
\Sound\Spells\FishingBobber_ver2_3.wav

Oh, and the Dropbox version was already outdated on the day I posted it (and contains a few missing files, especially for the Deathwing encounters!).
So make sure to download the newest version (that will be r15 once it was reviewed by the staff - if you delete the files for yourself you can stick with r14).

As WoWInterface now only supports .ZIP files, and ZIP has an absolutely crappy compression algorithm when it comes to archives with many files (such as this one), which puts the file from ~5MB to ~80MB and of course over the file size limit, I have uploaded the most recent version to my Dropbox account for the time being, until the issue is resolved.

Sound.muted.-.combat.only.r12.rar

Re: Re: Same but different

Looks like they tinkered with some of the ability sounds for 4.3.2, I'm not sure what they all are though; some of them are for inquisition, holy radiance & light of dawn
