Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.


IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua



About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

- DataStore_Crafts: The module is now shared between all versions of the game.
- This concludes the conversion of all DataStore modules to make them compatible with all versions.

- DataStore_Containers: Fixed COMMON_NUM_BAG_SLOTS to be NUM_BAG_SLOTS + 1 for retail, and NUM_BAG_SLOTS for non-retail, instead of the opposite.

- Fixed an issue where sorting the bags while the merchant frame is opened would trigger a slow down (Thanks Belazor !)
- DataStore_Containers: Removed an invalid test when closing a bank frame.

Suggestion: Raid lockouts?

Is it possible to have a tab or a button in character tab for raid lockouts?

Raid id's are visible in the account summary, when mousing over an alt's name. They'll move to a more convenient place in the near future.

One workaround was to close/open the bank 2/3 times and it worked afterwards. I had spent a few hours on the issue, but I never found the way to reproduce it with 100% certainty. Maybe check with Combuctor's author if he had investigated the issue on his side (I had provided some info back then, but never got a reply).

Raid lockout info getting lost

The raid lockout info seems to randomly disappear from my alts. I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like if I log the alt on and don't open the raid lock out box, the addon may randomly lose the info.

I changed to Bagnon, all the extra features in Combuctor I barely used anyway, just had it for the looks really.

I've still been having that problem also. It happens everytime I open the bank window. I saw there was some discussion on this on the Combuctor and Altoholic forums back around December, but nothing since. I assumed that it was working for most and that I was unlucky. I am able to get around it by clicking on a tab when I open the bank and then go back to the original tab. I consider it a minor inconvenience and have gotten used to it.

If there is anything I can do with helping debug this issue I would be glad to help.

I'm working on it right now, it's not random at all. I'll probably make an interim release when I've fixed it.

Well, apart from finding out a 100% reproductible pattern, I don't thing there's much to be done by an end-user. I know I wasn't able to find one.

The problem seems to come from an invisible frame above the bank frame. I know for sure that Altoholic does not hook UI frames (I strive to adopt a non-intrusive approach towards the default UI), and I name all my frames, even those I will not address directly later on, so if one of my frames was causing an issue, I would find out.

Combuctor, however, plays with the UI, so I think it would be a better candidate to cause such an issue, but I don't want to fingerpoint, since in the end, none of us might be guilty, it might just be an unexpected problem due to cohabitation.

I also suspected Ace at some point, since it uses A LOT of unnamed frames (bad thing imo, although I praise Ace3), it makes it hard to debug.

Roge Lockpicking

I've got a Rogue-Twink on my Account, but Altoholic seems to be unable to get my Lockpicking skill info... When hovering the mouse over my Level (on the Skills Tab) my Lockpicking Skill is displayed as 0/0.

Are there any localization-probs with lockpicking (deDE)?

Do I have to open some window I don't know?

Skilling Lockpicking doesn't seem to help at all.

Well, I'm not sure about internals, but the Client says "Schloss knacken" with a space in between when you have an action button.
The Skill-Tab of the Character-Display (where you check your Outfit) does in fact say "Schlossknacken".

So it's quite unclear.

If you can tell me where in your code this string is specified I would try myself and check around a bit, telling you as soon as I know for sure...

Ok, changing it to "Schloss knacken" didn't seem to change anything. Where (or when) does Altoholic get the lockpicking score? Do I have to do something special? Gain a Skillpoint or something?

That's what I suspected. If the client spells it differently in two places, then the confusion comes from there. The right one is the on in the skills pane, where you see your weapon skills etc.. so basically, it should be correct.

What you can check is your altoholic.lua in saved variables, I suggest using a text editor like notepad++ to see if the name in the DB matches what we're expecting. If you don't feel comfortable checking this, send me your altoholic.lua by mail.
