Version: 1.4.3.0
by: KnThrak [More]

This is a tiny addon to decrease your spelldetail level as your raidsize increases.
I wrote it because I couldn't find an addon which did only that, and beyond FPS-issues in larger raids I hated how I couldn't see the boss anymore the more spells home in on him. It will also work in PvP, as I had similar issues in Alterac Valley.

The only extra functionality it has is that it will decrease your spelldetail to near-minimum in Wintergrasp and Tol Barad, to account for the potentially huge amount of people near you.

2011-11-26 -- Version 1.4.3.0
- TOC bump for 4.3

2010-11-07 -- Version 1.4.0.1
- TOC bump for 4.0.1

2009-12-22 -- Version 1.2.3
- Small change to catch teleporting out of WG

2009-10-15 -- Version 1.2.2
- Never again drycoding locales

2009-10-15 -- Version 1.2.1
- Sorry about the 1.2 upload, it didn't restore detail after wintergrasp. Fixed now.

2009-10-15 -- Version 1.2
- Fixed the Wintergrasp code, it also uses 15% detail now, not 10%, turned out to work better.
- Added localizations for De, Fr, Es. Untested though, cannot test it myself really, sorry.

2009-10-07 -- Version 1.0
- Initial Version

You can message Dolby or Cairenn and ask them to change the name of your old account, or ask them to transfer ownership if you really want to leave your old account behind you.

Did a small TOC bump - because a guildie prodded me to do it :P -, but for the actual Cataclysm release I got a version supporting Tol Barad ready.

<-- KnThrak on a new account, sorry. Btw, anyone know how to transfer ownership of an addon?

The circles on the floor are controlled by a separate setting called "Projected Textures", which I don't touch (even though it'd be a huge FPS gain to turn them off, as you say they are required in some fights).

So for hodir what this does is reduce the particle density of the falling snow, but it still displays the circle on the floor as usual

<3 you for your Terry Pratchett quote. Oh, your addon looks nice too!

Added the locales. Sorry for the spammy updating, I drycoded this and then found that if you're still new to lua that's a very bad thing to do. I hope I actually got it right this time, but my short testing with a trusty Warlock and a raid of 2 people and Wintergrasp seemed to work. ^_^

On a related note, can someone tell me whether the german/french/spanish locales for WG are correct? I got them off the internet.

Whoa, I just noticed that I made quite the mistake right on my first addon. I completely forgot to bundle libraries. :x

I guess no one notices simply because virtually everyone has an addon loading Ace3 libs. But I'll upload it with libs once I'm back home later. Sorry everyone.

To my knowledge, 30%+ is safe for any fight currently in the game.
Below 30% fires can be a serious problem especially at say Gormok, since you only see single flames, not a group of flames indicating an area is burning - so you may mistake it for a friendly's spell, not an enemy effect. But at 30% there is already a noticeable "area" of fire.

And for all other area-targetted spells like the Icicles at Hodir, Projected Textures is the key factor, not Particle Density. So all important effects should still show up.

If you know any exceptions let me know, I'll see whether I can't wrap my head around fight-specific exceptions then. But to my current knowledge only minimum (as in fully down) spell detal and disabled projected textures can be a wipe-factor.

Beware though, there are fights where having spell detail on anything but high can make you a liability. ;-)

Great idea to be honest. I've been changing spell details manually so far. Appreciate your efforts. :-)
