TourGuide Recorder  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.0.0.9-Beta
by: Tekkub [More]

TourGuide Recorder is an addon to track the user as he quests, for later use in guide creation.

What it does:

  • Record when a quest is accepted, turned in, and when each objective is competed
  • Record the zone, subzone and coords for events that might need them
  • Record when the player uses an item (for those "go zap 12 lizards with this thingmabob" quests)
  • Provides /tgr command to add manual notes to the record
  • In-game panel to copy and clear the log, accessable with the /tgr command
I'm looking for logs for all zones now that the cataclysm has hit. Please email [email protected] for details on how to submit your logs.

This is a great idea. Is it possible for other mod to query that log? That would make it a standard way to store current and past quest information so quest log enhancement and/or quest history type of addons could use it?

I'm still using the original Quest History because I haven't found anything that keeps track of past quests. I find it very useful to be able to see for a particular alt if he or she has ever started, completed or abandoned a quest.

A good example would be a Quest Initiator replacement that would use the data to display what NPC started the quest and where the toon was when he received it.

TG proper already keeps such a "history", this addon is designed for gathering data to create guides only. Like a combat log for quests. It's not intended for everyday use, only for gathering up data to be converted into guides. If you were to use it on live every day, it's savedvar would become massive.

Make sure TomTom is installed and loaded. It will fail silently if it's not for whatever reason

I recently tried to use TGR to record my questing in Storm Peaks. I can confirm that TGR will not work (it won't even load) if TomTom is not present. The interesting thing is that Tourguide itself works fine with the TomTom emulation option in Carbonite turned on. Is it just a toc thing, or does TGR actually require TomTom — and if so can it be tweaked to work with Carbonite's TomTom emulation?

I suppose I could test this myself, at least to some extent, by deleting the required dependency in the toc, and seeing what happens, but I'm not sure I'd be able to tell whether it's actually working as intended or not. If I can help, please tell me whether I need to know anything special about how it should work.

Caveat: I have no idea how good, or how complete, Carbonite's TomTom emulation is — and if it's incomplete, that may be a reason not to mess with TGR, but I'm hoping TomTom isn't really absolutely necessary, that Carb will work just as well.

or this stricly for recording the things to file and that's it?
