Moonshine

Version: v1.0.0.2
by: sag_ich_nicht [More]

No-configuration micro-addon that kills the annoying character ambient lighting permanently.

If you're using Luaslinger or similar, you're probably better off just throwing ConsoleExec("characterAmbient"); somewhere in there instead of using this addon.

i can't see the difference between using your addon and inserting this line. I guess i'll continue to use moonshine in case i am not getting the complete result moonshine delivers.

thank you so much. i love moonshine (and the addon too )
As mentioned below, WoW does neither accepts nor stores nil values for variables from/to config.wtf, therefore, setting this inside config.wtf has no effect.

regardless, thank you for making such an immersive addon. blizzard must've noticated that their lighting wasn't so good... looks great now, thanks to you.
This still hasn't been implemented by Blizzard. Try out the tests I mentioned below. Also, are you sure you enabled loading out of date addons? I haven't bothered bumping the TOC.

Oh yeah, total bummer on my behalf. After trying the slash commands, I definitely noticed a difference. Thanks for all your help.

Since you're an addon author yourself, you can just take a look at the code, there are no dependencies, no nothing. There's no reason why this shouldn't work for you.

There's also no config.wtf setting to replace this, since this addon is a workaround for the fact that the characterAmbient CVar can't be stored in config.wtf when set to it's "off" value. Basically WoW won't store CVars that are set to nil, but the characterAmbient CVar accepts nil as a value, which in turn turns off character ambient lighting.

I assume the addon IS working for you, but you're not noticing the difference.

I suggest you experiment with this a bit so you actually notice the difference, it's most obvious if you directly go from 1 to nil:

/console characterAmbient 1
/console characterAmbient 0.5
/console characterAmbient 0
/console characterAmbient

(Note that to set the CVar to nil, the trailing integer is left out)

Thank you for this addon! I had been manually setting character ambient as part of a macro from Daostrasz's Realm (blog), from which I see you have used his example screenshot. To no longer have to fuss about such a small feature that can make a big difference in game ambiance is wonderful.
