Trapper  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v4.0
by: BDelacroix [More]

This is a simple addon to put all your hunter traps on their own frame. It saves me room on my action button bars.

I originally wanted it to be one button in which the trap it activated could be changed using the mouse wheel. I ran into several problems with that. Namely you can't changed hide/show states in combat (one method I tried). You can't programmatically change the button state while in combat.

So, for now, i have it this 5 button way.

No setup required. It will determine what traps you currently have on your hunter and make a button for them. You can drag it around with a right click and drag on the trap frame anywhere you want it.

v0.9b: Nothing changed. The old file on the site became corrupted.

v0.91: Fixed this so it really does enumerate lower level traps. I was guilty of premature optimization. Hey, it happens.

v0.95: Now with tooltips.

v0.98:
*Removed the invisible overhang from the background frame (it would cover buttons and intercept mouse clicks)
*Fixed a potential button shrinkage problem

2.0:
*Changed the version number to reflect the wow version it works with. (not the same as the TOC number)
*New Blizzard Interface Options panel.
*Scaling option.

3.0:

*Changed TOC. It was already ready to work with 3.0

3.1:

*Nothing needed changing. Checked the "works with 3.1" box.

3.2:

Changed only the .toc ##interface number.

3.3:

Changed .toc so it won't be out of date.

4.0:

Works with 4.0.1 release. Due to undocumented changes I can no longer inherit ActionButtonTemplate. That means the buttons will not highlight nor change appearance when pressed. I am still trying to figure out how to change the spell attribute to make them work with the trap launcher. So right now they only drop traps.

Only one trap shows...

Like the idea, but only one trap appears?? Have tried various modifying keys on the trap bar to show and/or access the other traps, but no luck. Only shows and activates Frost Trap.

Strange. What level is your hunter? I don't have but a 70 hunter but I had thought I had that fixed nonetheless.

On that note, let me make sure I actually uploaded the right one.

Now the version here seems to be a corrupt zip. This is strange.

Just for this, I've leveled a test hunter to 16 (where you get the first trap). I'll use that to work with.

Now this file is corrupt as well. It wasn't when I uploaded it.

Missing traps at lower levels

Alrighty, I leveled up a new hunter to 16 to get to the first trap. All to see why this addon wasn't enumerating lower level traps.

It turns out to be a simple fix. I was too clever in my original implementation of the enumeratetraps().

I noted a new problem, however. I do the programming on my laptop and that's not so great for playing, but the backdrop image which is supposed to be a steel bear trap wasn't appearing. I don't know if that was because I use directory links on my laptop and that confuses wow or if there is a real problem here. My home computer doesn't use the links and that's where I put in the image of the trap. It works fine there.

So, if others out there are not seeing a backdrop trap image like in the little screenshot, its supposed to be there. Let me know.

v3.0

I just tried this addon on 3.0 and it works as-is in beta. All I'd have to do is change the toc file.

I know nothing of code but the author of Dominos a action bar mod has made it so you can move buttons during combat perhaps he can help with your idea of the mouse wheel

3.0 is today!

I am working on other things, but as soon as the servers come up and I am able to verify that my 3.0 versions are indeed working, I'll post them here. They should work as they are now, but for my viewing audience, I want to be sure that is indeed the case.

Trapper

I like it but have a question---can we bind these to keyset? Also, is it possible to re-size it? By the way, so far, I like it

Regardless of the addon updated one uses, this addon hasn't changed functionality or code in a long time. It does what it was meant to do. Which is a good thing so you aren't missing any updates.

If you really want to make it 1 button, you could just make kinda a macro button, in which Left-Click, Middle-click, Right-click, Shift+Left click, Shift+right click would cast traps. and make it so people can set which trap is which bindings, so they can change it based on the one they use the most.

Keep in mind that some of us use a laptop and mice are not always an option... that being said, so long as you could do it all with modifiers of left click (if that is your preference), or of left and right, then that would work well. Just my 2-cents
