LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Thanks for the update, Clad. This is an extremely useful mod.

Incidentally, I disagree with some of the previous comments. Sure, regular updates when new quests are being added in, such as after patch 2.1, are useful - but as comments don't get updated in particularly useful ways very much at all after a specific quest has been out for a couple of weeks, I don't see the need for particularly frequent updates during those times when quests are not being added to the game.

My two pence! And great mod, again! :P

It uses 0 memory if you're not looking at your quests.. it uses abotu 2 megs of memory if you are.

Memory doesn't make a difference.

I agree. This is an awesome mod and I'm happy getting updates whenever Clad has time to release them.

Awesome Mode....

But i got a little problem.....after i installed the addon, I click on a quest of the quest log (blizzard one) and it says no comment is found.....i tried on all the char (level 1-70) and still no comment from wowhead displayed...

I have checked the addon page on the char selection screen, and all the data base is checked...
so anyidea what is going on?

You have an addon which is displaying quest levels. I'll fix this tomorrow, just need to get it coded and tested. Disable that addon for right now.

I understand that compiling all the new comments on Wowhead every week (if there are any) is a boatload of work. But mods like this become less & less useful over time--and CTRL-ESCing instead (or dual monitors/computers) to reach Wowhead becomes more & more viable--if the mod is not kept updated.
hmm....as it does not charge u anything, or ask for anything in return,.....we cannot demand so much imo....not mean to be rude....just some idea.....

Tooltip does not popup on click

When I click on a quest comment I get the following error:

Code:
[2007/05/20 10:58:47-222-x16]: LightHeaded\Huffman.lua:300: attempt to get length of local 'str' (a nil value)
The floating tooltip does not appear as it did with the last version.

Oh, thanks for the report. I'll work on this really quick.

I get the following error when left clicking the header (or simply opening the quest log) when I have ZERO quests in my log:

Interface/Addons/Lightheaded/Lightheaded.lua:214: bad argument #2 to 'format' (string expected, got nil)

Apparently it is trying to call upon the last quest information displayed or the current quest selected, but there isn't any quest available to draw info from.

Neat.. can you post this on the issue tracker on googlecode?

Sigh. I wasn't demanding anything . Just that it says in the description that: "This addon takes a different spin on the problem, and has a complete database dump, which I plan to update weekly." But it has not been, so was asking if it was going to be or not. If it wasn't going to be, no skin off my nose.

As I said before, mods like this become less useful over time if the database information is not kept updated. Same thing with the similar qComment mod. Same thing with keeping a personal item database (LootLink, etc.), but not logging on with it for a long while and thus not getting new items added to it. Or similar. Made this comment so people could understand why I was asking about it being updated.

It doesn't matter to me if its updated or not, just wondering if it was going to be or not. If nothing was said in the mod description about proposed update frequency, I wouldn't have even brought it up. In any case, nice to see it updated now .

I agree 100%, that's why I wrote that. Unfortunately, wowhead changes their page layout over time, and that affects my ability to easily re-parse their database to get the information necessary to make regular updates to the mod. As long as nothing drastic has changed, an update is extremely easy for me to do.

I plan to keep it updated, but perhaps a week was rather optimistic. I can often meet that, but will also have situations where its not as feasible. Make sense?

Clique Issues

This mod will not load with Clique add-on enabled. I'm not sure what they have in conflict as Clique is a click on portrait to cast add-on. Hope you can fix it. Your Add-on is very helpful, ( even if it's not updated weekly imo) .
