Ludwig  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.0
by: jaliborc, Tuller

Ludwig has moved to CurseForge!

Ludwig is an item link database addon that was originally based on GetLink. Ludwig is not dependent on saved variables, and Ludwig does not require the user to do anything special in order to collect data.

Features:

  • Search Window - You can filter via name, quality, level, type, subtype, and equip location.
  • Linkerator support - Typing an item name in [[brackets] will automatically convert the name into an item link if the item is known to Ludwig.
  • Command line searching - typing /lw <name> will bring up a list of the top 10 matches in the chat window.

Commands:
  • /lw or /ludwig - Brings up the search frame
  • /lw <name> - Prints out a list in the chat window of the top 10 items matching <name>
  • /lw --r: Refreshes the database
  • /lw --q <itemID>: Queries the server for the given itemID

Very nice mod! excellent implementation i have to admit! i never thought i would find an item link mod with just 140kb of memory use!

3 things i noticed which i dont know if they are bugs or intented, but here they are anyway:

1) when you heave the search box on (nice design btw) and do a search for an item, then it's a bit hard to set the focus back on the chat box again. The cursor just stays in the search box.

2) When you do a search either by the search frame or just by typing a name in brackets, there's a 3mb increase in memory usage. Now that's normal considering that it has to load the cached itemlinks and search through them for the one called. But shouldn't the data it retrieved be thrown to the garbage collection if the search is complete ? ti will have those 3mb loaded untill the next reloadui.

3)why is the sellvalues module produces that much memory usage? I used the .lua file, Sariash provided (thanks btw, Sariash it made my switch from kci much more easier!), which has 6.9k item prices listed and warmup reports arround 1.7mb memory usage while the .lua file itself is just 133kb. I'm a complete coding noob so if that's intented just ignore me :P

Thanks!

Thanks for a great mod, and for fixing the quest levels getting linkeratored! I had to comment out the linkerator code before 'cos it was driving me insane with quest levels being turned into random fish, and only after I had done that did I realise how much I had grown to love the linkerator stuff in the 3 or 4 days I used it before being driven insane.

Great fix, great mod - keep up the excellent work!

A friend made me a small perl script, to convert kc_items sellvalues to Ludwig_Sellvalue.lua
If anyone wants to use it: http://www.sariash.de/sunrise/wow/ui/kc2lud.zip

For those without perl installed, I zipped up the .lua that I got now (with 6,9k prices)
:: Ludwig_SellValues.zip

A large database of prices included with the mod would be awesome.

Re: Sell Value vs. Ludwig Sell Value

I should be able to make a converter if I think about it. SellValue uses item names, and Ludwig_SellValue uses itemIDs. This is done because multiple items can have the same name.

Also, since I'm not doing anything that should crash the game, it should be safe to provide a predefined database.

Nice little thing... switched from KC_Items to Ludwig, kci was too much -- is anyone able to share some Ludwig_SellValue saved variables? Starting with zero sell values, after a really big kci database is a pain ;-)

Minimap button??

First and foremost, I love the addon. I always liked the idea of having all items in the game linkable through 1 library rather than actually posses it to link it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this addon but, do you think you could add a minimap button for easier access. I dont really have any space on my UI for another macro as I am strapped for space anyway. Please consider this as it would make this the #1 item library out for WoW. Thank You

This is a great mod, I had no idea you could track everything and still make the mod so small but kudos for doing so!

I have a bug report and a feature request for you though. The bug is in conjecture with using "Quest Mods" that link the level as well as the name of the quest when you shift click them from the quest log. Because the level is in "[60] A Terrible Purpose" format, Ludwig posts something like "[60 Pound Redgill] A Terrible Purpose". Im not sure the best way to fix this, maybe not have bracketed numbers trigger Ludwig? im not sure if there's a way to figure out if a quest is being linked.

The feature request is the same as the other people asking for a bindable key.

Thanks for making Ludwig!

One thing though - would it be possible to get a keybinding option so that i can bind it to something instead of having to type "/lw" to open the window?
Yes, but I forgot to add it to this version
