BossBlock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

BossBlock is a simple mod that allows you to filter out messages (spam) sent by other player's BossMods (CTRA_BossMods and oRA_BigWigs). Although I wholeheartedly agree that BossMods are nice and useful, I really HATE people that impose their mods upon others. Yes, I like to know when Ragnaros will submerge, but for the love of god stop spamming me about it!

So that's where BossBlock comes in. It simply supresses all those automatically generated messages in all the applicable channels (raid, tell, CTRA's overhead "raidsay" frame). oRA_RaidSay is not touched as this functionality is built into it.

Whatever your reason may be, this should help keep your raid chat a little less spammy.

I knew people hated that spam, I wasn't the only one!

RaidWarning sent to the chat frame will get fixed, I'm currently elbow-deep in converting BigWigs over to Ace2, have patience!

Our raidleaderhas switched from RABossMods to BigWigs + BigWigs Raidwarn.

I get a lot of [Raid Warning] Name *** blah *** spam from him. How to disable it?

I have no idea whether it is RaidSay or RaidWarn, but the Raid Leader uses CT_RABossMods and I thought BossBlock filters all spam from that addon.

Does oRA RaidSay work without oRA? I have still CT_Raidassist in my UI Compilation because oRA does have all the functionality needed at the moment (I have it running for testing purposes and will kick Raidassist someday).

So including both oRa (+Raidsay) and Raidassist in the UI compilation just to prevent CT_RABossMods spam does not make a lot of sense.

p.s.

I have got a lot of positive feedback about BigWigs + BossMods, people appear to hate the BossMods spam.

I use oRA, BugWigs, BigWigs_RaidWarn, but NO CT_RaidAssist (Addon is disabled).

Bossblock (Version from SVN) seems to block a lot, but unfortunately not all.

You can see it on this screenshot:

As the tard said, it just filters out everything.

This is sortof meant to complement BigWigs (the boss mod me and a few other Ace coders have been working on). We're wel aware of the range issues and do plan to put in some sort of "behind the scenes" syncing system later on down the road... but for the time being it's just a minor inconvenience I guess.

I do understand your view, but the point of BB is to just get rid of all those messages so the user can choose how they get their boss messages, not other raid members.

There's another mod out there called STFU (god I love that name)... I bet it could be adapted to do what you want. It basically blocks duplicate messages from the same person on custom channels. It'd just need to be tweaked to work on raid/raidsay and to not block on a per-user basis

It filters all messages.

The point is to run your own boss-- such as BigWigs-- to get the messages. If you are too far away to get the combat event for a particular "message" then I can't imagine that you care all that much... The only example I can think of for this is Ragnaros's knockback. If you are too far away to get the combat event for it, it probably doesn't mean anything for your role in the encounter.

So, does this allow one message to get through, i.e. does it filter out all duplicate messages within a certain time frame? Or does it filter all messages out and force the user to rely on their own boss behavior detection?

If it's the latter, please consider also doing the former. For most, I think that kind of duplicate spam filtering would be infinitely more useful. It would allow users to still have the *reliability* of messages from multiple people (needed b/c range issues can prevent some people including the user from detecting the necessary conditions of the alert) without having to swim in a sea of duplicate message spam.
