Its' G15 Binder  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.4.1.6
by: Itsnoteasy [More]

Its' G15 Binder is an AddOn designed to improve integration between the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard and WoW. It provides simple G-key binding: just point at a button in-game and hit the G key to bind it. You can also display which keyboard mode is active via a border around the active action buttons, or set the mode to control which action bar page is active.

Please note: this AddOn does not create or manage action bars or buttons. There are a plethora of other AddOns out there that do a far better job than I could ever hope to. This AddOn will work with your existing action button set up, be it the default Blizzard bars, or heavily customised Trinity bars. Heck, you could probably bind G18 to the 'Post Auction' button if you really felt like it...

Documentation can be viewed online.

If you want some buttons in the shape of your G keys, give G15 Buttons a try. Please note that I did not write G15 Buttons, nor have I used it; it was merely mentioned by a user.

2.4.1
  • Updated TOC for 2.4. Yes, it took forever, but I didn't want to push an "upload count bump" release! :D
  • Added background blending options for mode borders. Try out Blizzard Low Health with ADD blending; is spiffiriffic!
  • Changed a few odd behaviours when the buttons you've bound to don't exist.
  • Moved source over to WoWI's SVN service.

2.3.1
  • Added "key overlays" which display the name of the G key bound to an action button inside the button.
  • Changed the binding mode buttons into a drop-down list, so that you can tell which mode is currently active.
  • Made icon a little more readable at small sizes, and reduced it to 32x32.

Near Excellent

Heya,
Would just like to thank you for this. I've played with a few G15 addons, and this has got to be hands down the easiest to use. My only 'complaints' would be:
A) the 'Turn Off Binding' button, used to stop binding actions to G15 buttons, doesn't change state - it's unclear from the Config window whether the addon is in Binding Mode or not.
B) No display of what keys are currently bound, and to what they're actually bound. I can, however, find this out by looking at the SavedVariables - inconvenient but not impossible to find out the info.

I'd give this a 4/5 rating. It'd be nice to see something exactly like this is WotLK. We can but hope

You mean that the button doesn't grey out when you're no longer binding? That's a limitation of the library used to create the GUI. Basically, the GUI is automatically constructed from the slash command, so I don't really have much control over the fine details.

One possible alternative would be to replace the three buttons with a drop-down list (since you can only be in one state at a time.) I'll look into it.

Edit: Added in 2.3.1.

Basically, this hasn't been implemented due to a combination of not being 100% sure how to go about it, and just wanting the damn addon to work before adding in frills.

None the less, I'll have a poke around and see what I can come up with.

Edit: Added key overlays to 2.3.1.

When 2.0 originally released, I made a post in the UI forum about better support for the G15. Never got a reply. Considering that the original G15 is now out of production, I doubt Blizzard would bother, to be honest.

None the less, glad you liked it, and thanks for the feedback.

Great Addon this is!

Hey, wow and thank you for sharing this addon!
It is exceptionally useful, and in combination with this addon:

G15 Buttons: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/9562/

it is extremly versatile for me. Your Addon does the binding, the other addon does the actionbars!

An almost unbeatable duo!

Thank you!

Good to hear you like it. I'll add a link to the button addon, for those without something like Trinity. Thanks.

Incidentally, if it's "almost unbeatable," what could I do to promote it to "unbeatable"?

As far as I can tell from looking at Logitech's website and a quick Google on the subject, there's no way to bind the G keys under Mac OSX, so no. This AddOn depends on the Keyboard Profiler program, which is only available for Windows. Basically, the AddOn works by programming a special sequence of key presses to each G key, and then decoding them inside WoW into the appropriate action.

That said, if you do find a program for Mac OSX that lets you bind key sequences to the G keys, let me know and I'll see what I can do to support it.

Sorry.

There is a Linux version of the drivers that I read about once somewhere. Maybe I can find that and re-compile it for MacOSX. If I can bind the keys Maybe it will work. I will likely not get the Logitech Macro ability, but just the extra keys are worth it.

For anyone wondering, I used to play Wow and still play a lot of FPS games on the WinDoze side of my Mac (Win Vista x64). I bought the keyboard for that reason.

Not quite working!

I may not be reading it correctly, but it just doesn't seem to work as it should... is there a particular order that the programs need to be started in, or profiles loaded, or such?

Each time i try to assign a g key to an action button, it... just doesn't do anything! no message to say it's activated (even when i enable the binding) or anything. What am i doing wrong ._.

This is usually because the profile program is playing up. Try the following:
  1. Make sure the Logitech G-series Keyboard Profiler program is loaded before WoW is started.
  2. Select Help, About from the menu in the profiler's main window, and ensure you're running version 2.02.101 or higher.
  3. Check to see whether there is another profile assigned to World of Warcraft. If there is, select it from the profiler program's Current Profile list, then select Profile, Delete... from the menu.
  4. Select the "Its' G15 Binder" profile, and select Edit, Profile Properties... from the menu. Make sure that it is assigned to the correct "WoW.exe". When in doubt, click Browse... and locate it on your hard drive. Also, check Lock profile while game is running to make sure the profiler isn't switching the profile once WoW starts.

If none of the above helped, you can make sure "Its' G15 Binder" is set as the Current Profile, go into Edit, Script Editor... and change lines 12 and 13 to the following:

Code:
local Binder_Key_1 = 'A' -- 'F6'
local Binder_Key_2 = 'B' -- 'F7'
Start up wow, select the Account Name input box and hit some G keys (M2 G11 works well :P .) You should get a string of As and Bs coming through.

If you do get As and Bs, then there's something wrong with the AddOn itself. In that case, change lines 12 and 13 back, temporarily disable all other AddOns and try it in-game to make sure it's not a conflict. If that doesn't resolve it, send me a private message with your "WTF\Account\<AccountName>\SavedVariables\ItsG15Binder.lua" file, and I'll see what I can do.

If you don't, then the profiler is screwing up, and I'm not sure what else to suggest. The profiler program has always been very flaky, and it can be very easily confused by other programs (for example, when my firewall pops up a message saying that it's updated itself without asking me for permission, the profiler can get confused and un-bind all the keys... sigh.)

If all else fails, you can try completely uninstalling the profiler and re-installing it. Sorry I can't offer more help than that.

LOL! You got the point! But there is nothing what you could do! The button binding is perfectly working.

As playing a rogue as my main char, I always have problems with the stances switching of *all* actionbar addons I tried.

I tried Trinity/Bongo/blablabla-Bars and they are all the like: if you use a rogue-ability that breaks stealth, sometimes the actionbars do not recognize it and don't switch until the battle is over...

Have you ever battled a warrior with nothing else than stealth-only abilitites on your action bars while not in stealth?

This a sure free ticket to the graveyard!

So I use the combo of your binding addon and the G-15 key-bars which do *not* support any stances and put all three actionbars for the modes M1-M3 on the screen simultaneously. I use M1 for the stealth abilities, M2 for normal non-stealth-battle abilities and M3 for other purposes like fishing, quest items etc.

If it was possible, what I doubt, I would love to have my G-15 switch modes depending on my stances. But as I understand you and the api support of the G-15 right, this is practically impossible.

So these two addons are for me the almost unbeatable duo, as it is more fun with them as with any other actionbar/keybinding addons I used until now

Thanks again for such a fine work!!

Greetings

HP

Has anyone used this add-on with Trinity Bars 2.0 yet? It simply just won’t bind any of Trinity’s buttons at all.

I have been able to get it to bind with Bartender 3 buttons but since discovering Trinity and how customizable it is I would prefer to stick with it. Now I am torn, do I have awesome buttons with no “G” bindings or average buttons with great “G” bindings. Damit I want both!!

Does anyone know how to make Its' G15 Binder work with Trinity Bars 2.0? Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Simple

Combine the two into one integrated addon.

Then add SharedMedia support for the buttons for extra credit.

Integrating options into the new 2.4 addon option section would be super too :P

I don't think it would be a good idea to do so.

1) personally I don't really like those full-blown-I-can-Do-All-In-One-Addons because they are hard to exchange if a little piece is not working after a patch or so
2) it would be just another actionbar-addon. The way it is now leaves the choice of the bars to the player

I loved Trinity, but i changed to the G-15 Buttons because of the stances problems with all actionbar addons.

Now I use these:

G-15-Buttons: for the three actionars
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/9562/

G-15-Binder: for the keybinding to the bars
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...G15Binder.html

RedRange: for the coloring of the unusable actions, because I dislike the little red spots of the G-15 Bars
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...-RedRange.html

OmniCC: for the cooldowns as text
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...36-OmniCC.html

Each of them does its job excellently and I can exchange any of it by another addon for the same purpose if I decide to...

Therefore I vote against combining the G-15-Binder with any actionbar!
just my 2ct
