Sound commands for every sound updated for MoP  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Technically this isn't an addon. It's a zip that contains a text file that lists the /script commands to play almost any sound in game.

If it was in the MPQ files then there should be a /script command to play them. From 25 man raid bosses to the sound a Gnome Male makes when dying.

I've also included instructions on how to do this yourself if I ever drop off the face of the earth

Instructions for use


1) Unzip the zip file

2) Open up the large over 3 MB file whose file name begins with "WoWSoundsUpdatedTo" using Word, Wordpad, Notepad or any decent text editor. It's just a text file so anything that can read a text file should do.

3) Use Control-F ie the Find function to find what you need.

3) Copy that /script command with Control-C (copy)

4) Switch to the game

5) Press Enter to bring up a chat box

6) Control - V to Paste it in.

7) Press return. The sound should play

These script commands can also be used in Macros


Now before posting in the comments about looking for a sound please make the effort to find it first.

I'm not trying to be mean or rude it's just that I might not always have the time to find it for you. I might not even be able to login to the game to test that I've found the right sound for you as I could be answering posts at work. Try searching on the NPC name or alternatives of the NPC name. Don't be afraid to try ones you think it is. Once you've exhausted all reasonable avenues to find it yourself then post and I'm sure someone will be happy to help

I've spot checked a few but haven't tested every single /script command I've listed here. Let me know if some aren't working for you.

DISCLAIMER :

* While every effort has been made to keep this list as accurate and free of duplicates I make no guarantees that I haven't missed anything.
* Due to an existing bug/oddity in how the PlaySoundFile call works I make no guarantees that every one of what is listed will play. List is generated from what is listed in the data files and there is no easy way of checking what sounds will or won't play.
* Sound file paths and sound names are listed as they are spelt in the data files. If there are mispellings it's not my fault (and do not try to correct them)

v2.3 Complete re-extract for 3.1.2. Now updated for 3.1.2. Has baby murloc space marine sounds :D.As a side note looks like Blizzard only uses wav files and mp3 files for their sounds :D

v3.2 Updated for 3.2. Going to do complete re-extracts from now on to ensure I get all sounds. Also using new version numbering system to make things easier on myself:)
v3.2.1 Much help from Eisa in getting Creature\LichKing sounds properly extracted. Had to relearn how to do this lol. Also reworked version history.Thanks for the assistance Eisa :)

v3.3.3 Updated for patch 3.3.3 Looks like they've put in some sounds for Ruby Sanctum , the new gnomes & trolls get their own home cities patch as there is an extra 403 sounds in this update. 21,056 total sounds now

v3.3.5 Updated for patch 3.3.5 Not many sounds in this update only about 18 sounds bringing the total up to 21,074.

Built by extracting all sounds as well as extracting all the "(Listfile)" extracts contained in World of Warcraft 5.0.5.16135 live MPQs. Adds a phenomenal amount of new sounds - 11,804 !! Total number of sounds is now 48,902 (listed in WoWSoundsUpdatedTo505.txt) . enUS locale only , other locales to be done ASAP

- Adds 1813 new sounds bringing the total number of sounds up to 5,4932
- Added experimental "Addedin5.4" and "Updatedin5.4" files . These are what I
believe has been added/changed and may not reflect reality.


v5.4.2 (beta 1) Update for patch 5.4.2 (17658)
- Adds 92 new sounds bringing the total number of sounds up to 55,024
- Includes the 9 new sounds from 5.4.1 , the Murloc Crusader sounds
(the only new sounds from 5.4.1)
- 5.4.2 build 17658 was a client only update. Last MPQ file with
new sounds = 17645 (base & enUS)
- misc admin related updates

Holy fre holies I has downloads !

Ok seriously guys I'm on a mac. So can anyone advice how to make it so the carriage returns get processed properly in Notepad ? They show up fine when you open it up in Wordpad on the computers at work .....

Apologies those who have added me to their favourites and may of gotten an email saying a new version had been uploaded. I'm new to this so IDK if bumping the version number sends you an email (2 ->2.0)

2.1 update now up

Update 2.1 now up.

I managed to change all the carriage returns on all the files to Windows style. So in theory it should open up both in Note Pad on windows pcs and Text Edit on macs.

Thanks go to Verissi for helping me with a perl script to assist with doing this

2.2 major update

Looks like I missed a lot of 3.1 sounds. Thanks go to Mordroth of Bladefist realm for pointing the one out to me.

For the 3.1 sounds I grabbed the MPQs that had been changed on 15/04/2009

Unfornately looks like I missed an MPQ. A big one that was like 3GBs long !!

Well 2.2 should fix that. It should have all of them

Version 2.3 is updated for Patch 3.1.2

This time guys I did a complete re-extraction of all the MPQs in the Data folder. I also methodically went through and filtered out all lines containg various known file extensions into seperate files. As a side note doing it this way I now know that Blizzard only use mp3 files and wave files in their MPQs.

Which also means next time the re extraction process will be much faster

Has anyone been able to locate the sound for the rogues new fan of knives ability?

The only thing I know for sure is that it is NOT.

It's pretty much the single most annoying sound in the game right now and it's spammed constantly. Any help appreciated.

Thing is my friend. I extracted these straight out of the mpq's the game uses. When you put in the PlaySoundFile command it will play w/e is at that location. So if it appears to be "wrong" it's because Blizzard has a file at that location named that thing.

IE

When I did the extraction there was a file under this folder structure once extracted :

<some mpq file name>/Sound/Spells/FanofKnivesLoop.wav

All I did was extract the sounds out of the mpqs then generated a file listing for them. I then attached a PlaySoundFile command to the front. I haven't made up any of these sound commands myself ...if a filename appears to be wrong it's because Blizzard have them named strangely.

As I can see you've gone and found it

BTW Guys I've done a quick look for patch 3.1.3 . No new sounds so hence now new update

No they can't .

I made this for personal reference for addon authors and people who like to include sounds in their macros.

I can't get the PTR mpqs to extract right for some reason. So I'll wait till then to update.

Great list. Excellent even! Without it AudioX would be far less comprehensive. Keep up the good work.

Blizzard prevents PlaySoundFile audio from being broadcast to near by players, specifically to stop them becoming annoying in towns and raids (imagine what it'd be like with every spamming samples).

However, several mods allow samples to be played between players who use the same mod. The aforementioned AudioX does this by allowing players to search, play and share game samples via chat links (to other AudioX users).

Alrighty then guys. All updated for 3.2 (pending atm)

I'm going to do complete re extractions of all the MPQ files in the Data folder from now on. Also when I post-process my results I filter for all files with either a ".wav" or ".mp3" extension and have spot checked for sound file extensions I've missed.

While I have every confidence I've gotten all the sound files present let me know if any are missing *

*The sound might be under a different name so check for that first please.
