Chinchilla Minimap  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v2.13.0
by: ckknight, Ravendwyr

Chinchilla Minimap alters the Blizzard Minimap in a way to provide much nicer features and other niceties.

Appearance

Allows changing of blip size (useful since 3.1), border style, shape of the map (doesn't have to be circular, or even square, lots of options are available), size, etc.
Auto zoom
Zoom out the map automatically after 20 seconds (or so).
Compass
A more flexible north-east-south-west indicator.
Coordinates
Show your location coordinates
Expander
Make the minimap very big temporarily (good for gathering or finding a tough-to-spot enemy).
Location
Show the name of your location more flexibly.
Move buttons
Move the buttons around the minimap to wherever you want (even off the minimap entirely).
Ping
Show which team-mate pinged the minimap
Position
Position the minimap and frames around it.
Range circle
Show on the minimap where your range extends to
Show / Hide
Show or hide various frames related to the minimap
Tracking dots
Change the dots on the map to a different set of images. Very handy, especially if you suffer from colorblindness.
Wheel zoom
Mousewheel to zoom the minimap

Only just noticed this but since the patch some buttons still have borders even when the option is set to 0% opacity. Specifically this included the mail and lfg buttons.

EDIT: Did some more testing.

I went back through the newest releases to some 3.3.5 versions. None of them were able to hide the borders. Deleted my saved variables and again, no luck. I enabled more buttons and found the zooms, tracking and calendar buttons had visible borders. Only the BG/Arena button is affected, apparently.

If blizzard is preventing this or you're just removing the option from Chinchilla I'll have to accept it or try fixing it with a blank .blp file if I can remember how that works.

Any chance of adding multiple tracking support (user selectable icons)? This way we could tell herbs apart from fish and ore etc.

Not sure how hunter support would work out with so many things to track at once. The mini map could become quite cluttered. Presumably, one would, at some point, simply be tracking too many things to be practical on a mini map, especially when zoomed out. But then that would be up to the individual user most likely. I generally like to track fish, beasts and humanoids when out in the wild. Unique icon shapes would go a long way toward making things more informative.

Long time user and enormous fan of Chinchilla here

The one feature I just plain can't live without is Expander -one of those things you never think about, but once you have it you just can't take not having it.

Anyway, I'm not sure how difficult it would be - but would it be possible to set a custom opacity while expanded? Like normally have the minimap at 100% opacity, but when holding down the expander button drop it to 80% opacity or so?

Excellent work with the mod!

I had the same Watchframe error and was able to get it to go away by turning the questtracker frame back on in Chinchilla.

I'm not able to replicate this. What are your height/width settings for the watch frame?

I'm still having trouble preventing the act of going into combat or out of combat dictating whether the minimap is hidden away. Any ideas where this problem is originating? This was not a problem two version ago and just recently started. If I could find where this problem is coming from, I'd comment out the code myself.

Any ideas?

--------------

Finally found the problem, the "Appearance.lua" under Modules. In comparison of the previous working this doesn't seem any different, so why this would be an issue now, no idea.

local inCombat = InCombatLockdown()
function Appearance:PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED()
-- inCombat = false
-- self:SetAlpha()
end

function Appearance:PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED()
-- inCombat = true
-- self:SetCombatAlpha()
end

Patch 4.0.1

Patch 4.0.1 was released on live servers in the US today and the EU tomorrow.

Chinchilla works fine "out of the box" with Patch 4.0.1 with only three known issues:

1) The Ping module throws a strop and doesn't work at all.
2) The option to show/hide the minimap clock causes an error.
3) Tracking blips might appear distorted if not using Blizzard's default blips.

These issues should be fixed when the next version of Chinchilla is uploaded here in the next few days.
If you are using the latest beta builds from WowAce, then only the tracking blips will be affected.

Only issue I have is that my zoom level gets reset every time I relog. Any way to get to remember it? I prefer to be max zoomed out...

Edit: nm, auto zoom feature seems to do the trick

Sounds like a file permissions issue to me. Sadly there's nothing I can do about that. The best you can do is search the forums for solutions. Sorry!

Also, right-click to open tracking would be awesome, indeed. But I have a more serious problem:

I just spent about 20 minutes getting my map to look perfect only to have it revert to the default settings when I logged out and in again. I can't seem to figure out what's causing this.

Could you add an option to make a right-click on the minimap open the tracking menu?

Were you addressing the problem that I am having? I tried out the 2.1.6 but the problem is persisting.

If I toggle the minimap "hide" then go into combat, the minimap jumps back to "show" automatically.

Cataclysm OK

It does appear to work in cataclysm with no issues so far ..

Maybe you should post this version in the Cataclysm Beta Addon section. If it was not for me watching this addon and seeing your comment I would not have realized it was compatible.
