Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

Hi guys thanks for the amazing addon been using this for many years however recently (during legion) I've noticed the range of players being incorrect. (Inside dungeons) I know blizz recently changed the way players can use co-ord's, radars and the like to calculate player distance, but I feel asthough this has also affected grid (potentially).

I know it's probably out of your hands, (since I read on wowace forums about the range API and what not) but this is pretty much breaking the addon for me, as a healer it's incredibly frustrating to try and heal someone only for it not to register due to the target being out of range.

My action bar (Bartender) seems to still accurately track whether or not I can heal a target in range, but grid requires an extra 10-15 yards before they actually show as being out of range.

Reason why I'm posting this is blizz range API change seems to only affect grid, and not other addons, (like BT as mentioned) or maybe I am mistaken?

Edit: In BG's it seems to work as intended, the above applies just for dungeons only (as I've not been in a raid in legion yet) Is it something on my side causing this? Apologies if so.

I just wanted to say thanks for keeping this updated since Vanilla. I'm about to start playing resto druid for the first time since then and Grid is going to be back in my life big time because of that. I've kept my config and kept it installed all these years, but mostly just used it as a reference for who was dead or alive since I was DPS.

If you are looking at ticket #844 ("Resizing frames doesn't update layout") that issue is specific to changing the frame height/width only without changing any other settings.

The layout should update immediately when you change any option related to it, especially if you are actually selecting a different profile, since that triggers a full reload of the entire layout system. If you're seeing some issue when switching profiles, please post a bug report ticket with more details.

Temporary fix?

Hello, I saw on your bug report list that you know that there is an issue when changing layout that it does not update until a change is made to either the raid composition or to a layout option. Is there any in line commands or macros I can make to simulate such an update? I am currently using /grid profile choose macros to swap between raid sizes. As you know, that does not properly update the size, position, and other layout options. I was wondering if there was a temporary fix of some sort that I could use in the meantime. I was wondering if perhaps there was a in-line command or a macro I could use to change a setting that would force the update on the frames. I'm thinking if there was a macro or in-line command to change the Solo Layout to By Class or By Group, I could use that to force a refresh. Are there any such in-line commands or macros?

That already exists -- go into the Layout section and enable the options to hide groups where all the players are offline or in the wrong zone. As long as your raid leader isn't leaving standby players mixed in with everyone else, these options should do exactly what you want.

(That said, the automatic layout sizing should already be using a 20-player size in mythic raids. If that's not what you're seeing, please post a bug ticket; include your screenshot, as well as a screenshot of your current Layout settings.)

I don't take donations for my WoW addons. In the past I've accepted donations for other hobby projects, and I've found it always creates feelings of obligation, on both sides, that I'd rather avoid. I feel obligated to spend more time on the project than I really want to (remember, these are things I do for fun in my free time) and (at least some of) the people who donated feel cheated if I don't deliver on updates/features fast enough (and aren't always shy about saying so). WoW addons are a hobby, and I'd prefer it stays that way.

That said, if you'd bothered to read the addon description and click the link to the ticket tracker, there's already a feature request ticket for manual group filters, and that ticket is already marked as accepted, which means the feature you want is already on the to-do list. As to when it will happen, there is no specific ETA. I have a full time job, I have other responsibilities and hobbies besides Grid, I haven't even played WoW or had an active subscription in about 9 months now, and I'm not even done updating all 50 of my addons for 7.0, so adding new features to Grid when it works just fine already is a pretty low priority. Stassart is currently helping out with Grid, but he also has a job and other things to do, so I don't know when he may have time to work on it either.

If you want it to happen faster, there are two things you can do:

1 - Learn WoW addon programming and submit a patch.

2 - Pay my salary so I can quit my job and have lots of time to work on Grid.

If you can't/won't do either of those things, no amount of begging or threatening will accomplish anything.

(Though your explanation doesn't really make any sense. If you don't care about raid frames enough to have raid frames for all of your raid members, why do you care about having raid frames for any of your raid members?)
As an avid hardcore player and healer since vanilla of wow I've always loved grid. Zinge was never threatening you he used very poor choice of words. As a healer/dps/tank that likes to have raid frames on their screen its very frustrating to have additional raid frames of players on your ui who aren't even inside the raid instance. The addon to resize your layout that Mithorium made a few years ago is absolutely amazing for that I'm really surprised it hasn't been incorporated into the core of Grid itself. I would like you to know that majority of the community including myself appreciate the amount of hardwork, dedication and time it takes to create and maintain these addons over the years. I alone do not have the programming skill and am not rich enough to pay your salary however if you are willing to give us your paypal Phanx I would love to donate to show my appreciation for your time in creating the best raid frames I have ever used to this day. Many other players would gladly donate too I'm sure whether it would or wouldn't speed up the process of the autosizelayout to function with grid.

Since other players are poor at explaining the issue its like this normal/heroic raids require 10-30 players max, mythic is 20 max, if you are in a raid with players over that specific # autoresizelayout mod would HIDE those additional players upon zoning in which was amazing for two reasons it would not clutter your interface and you could manually set the group from 5/10/15/20/25/30/35/40 and the automatic mode would do it as well.

Here is a mythic raid after prepatch set on automatic (see the additional 5th group in 20 man raid):

And before prepatch when the addon worked set on automatic (we always have ppl sitting in our raids):

I hope this helps and thank you Phanx and the rest of the grid team I look forward to continuing to use your addons in the future many <3s.

Grid uses LibSharedMedia-3.0 for bar textures (and fonts) so the selection depends on what textures are registered. Most likely you had another addon that was registering a bunch of textures, and are no longer using that addon. You can use the SharedMedia package to add a ton of textures (and fonts); it probably includes whatever your previous addon was registering, and a bunch more.

Please post in the Lua/XML Help forum for help with writing or changing addon code. I read and respond to almost every thread posted there, but this page is for support of the official release version of Grid only.

There's zero chance I will ever add that kind of border in Grid itself, but the code in this forum thread should still work just fine today, though it will need adjustments to work with whatever border addon you're using. If you need more help with that, post in the forum thread.

Love the addon, I've used it and continue to use it for all my chars. any chance or posibility to a border as did "SexyGrid"? thans you in advance

Edit: 08-18-16 (solved)
nvm I have figured out how to

at Grid/Frame.lua line 148 add this
Code:
  	CreateBorder(frame, 12, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2)
at Grid/Indicator/Border.lua line 54 add this
Code:
  	ColorBorder(frame, color.r, color.g, color.b)
at Grid/Indicator/Border.lua line 63 add this
Code:
  	ColorBorder(frame, 1, 1, 1)
you must have installed !Beautycase ...

Phanx again... thanks you so much

tip: dont use white for "your target" status

Why bother telling me you'll stop using the addon if you didn't intend for that to motivate me to take action to avoid it happening? That's exactly what a threat is; it doesn't need to be violent or extreme to qualify.

I played for 10 years, so the fact that I don't play now is irrelevant. I understood your request just fine. I still don't think it's a good or sensible explanation. Again, if you don't care enough about the raid to see everyone, why not just turn off the raid frames entirely in that case? No need to log out or reload the UI to disable the addon, just set the layout to "None". You can even macro a toggle.

Another option would be to resize your raid frames so having 40 of them on the screen for the 5 minutes it takes to kill a world boss isn't such a hardship (if you're not a healer, you really don't need full-size raid frames) or un-clutter the rest of the UI so you have more than a 2-inch space in which to slot your raid frames. My eyesight is terrible, and I still have plenty of room for 40 raid frames without covering up anything.

If you think I "threatened" anything anywhere in my post, you must be confused as to what "threat" really means. I simply stated that I would stop using the addon--I'm not holding you hostage, nor did I demand that you fix this issue at this immediate moment.

I recognize that you and every other wow addon dev are busy people, so you can spare us all your life story.

If you had bothered to actually understand (and not just read) my statement, you'd know that my explanation actually does make sense. I only care about having 20 people on my mythic team, but I do join random flex heroics and world bosses that, more times than not, have greater than 20 people in the raid. I'd prefer not having to disable Grid every time I join one of these, though I don't expect you to understand that since you apparently don't even play.
