I'm sure there are a lot of (other) players out there who love the minimalistic look of an interface, but still want some minor conveniences of those more flashy mods.

That's where 'XP Gain Notify' comes in. The name is big, but the mod is small, in size and functionality. In fact, the ONLY thing this mod does is display a chat message whenever you receive experience.

The original versions of this addon didn't contain any options at all, but the most recent ones contain a console driven method of changing the most asked for things. As of now, you can change the chatframe the message is displayed to, and you can also manually send to yourself (or your party) the amount of XP you require to level up.

Like I said. Minimalistic. You either like it or you don't.

A note to everyone though: I'm not a "professional" with the WoW Addon code. I learned what I know from looking at other addons. I may or may not use bad coding practices that other authors would frown upon. However, this addon has lasted the test of time. It has lasted through 3-4 WoW patches and none of them have broken it yet, so I figure it should last indefinitely.
Update: The Cataclysm patch finally proved me false. The fix was simple though.

If you have any errors, please post a comment letting me know. I'll try to roll out a fix ASAP.

Oh, and I know the screenshot is a little out of date. The current version is a tiny bit different, but it's still the same information; just organized differently.

I removed this functionality to speed up the time it took to prepare a fix for Cataclysm. Other than that, works fine. Sorry about any inconvenience.

Chat commands:

/xgn # -- Replace # with a number 1-9 and it will display a test message showing you which chatframe you've changed it to.
/xgn self -- Reports 'XP Needed to level' to yourself. (Not visible by anyone else)
/xgn party -- Reports 'XP Needed to level' to party.

Heh, I'm about the last person you need to inform about how to make addons function correctly in patches where the TOCs are out of date . And no, the chat frames I have functional have remained the same for about 4 years here (Chat 1 that everyone has, combat log & a self-made Chat 2). You've probably got the setting to display to a chat frame that doesn't exist.

Try typing in /xgn 1 to default it back. I believe you'll see it's been working all along.

I logged in just today to test it out. If you want to load it without having to check "Load out-of-date addons", the TOC version will have to be updated. I already did to my local copy, and if I feel motivated enough, I might upload it here.

Dissonance A Deviate Faerie Dragon Forum posts: 18 File comments: 10 Uploads: 2	A recent bug I've noticed is that (because of my own stupidity) the variable for which chat window it appears in is not saved per-character. Therefore, if on Character A you display it to the second window, Character B will also have it being displayed in the second window. I'm pretty sure I can just change the toc to say "SavedVariablesPerChar" instead of just "SavedVariables". Then again, I'm not 100%, and will test it before I upload a new version.

It's really useful and is nicely displayed (I even edited a pet xp mod to display similarly). I'm not really a big fan of this site but it seems that good mods are hosted here. It doesn't work for those on ui.worldofwar.net. I did upload 1.4 there before I shut it down, so it should still work. Then again, the only change between 1.3 and 1.4 is a TOC update, all the functionality is there. Another reason I like WoWI is because it feels more Developer-friendly. We'll see how it goes. Hey, I might even move back to worldofwar.net. But it's nice to know you liked it enough to follow it through a site change. It's nice to have a fanbase, however small it may be. Edit: To bring forth another statement: I uploaded 1.4 here too, and it had to await moderator approval. It says it's completed, but it's still showing an older version. I'll look into it. Edit Edit: I'm so silly. I was looking under "Archives", as I assume you were too. Look for a link that says "Download", as I've deleted the older version from this site.
