Version: r9.2

shNameplates
A light-weight and beautiful nameplate addon that works right out of the box!

Why use this addon instead of some of the other famous nameplates? Simple: elegance, ease of use, and efficiency. Other addons similar to shNameplates are extremely "busy" or they are too plain. In some cases, they are highly inefficient when it comes to coding.
  • Unit Name
  • Raid Icon
  • Unit Level (using blizzard code to add difficulty coloring)
  • PvE coloring (blizzard based) and PvP coloring (class colored based)
  • Aggro and threat color (with glow overlay)
  • Castbar, Cast Time, and Spell Icon
  • Health Text Display (using color gradient for percentage)
  • Auto toggle on and off when in or out of combat (user set via config.lua)
  • Lots of config attributes that handle nameplate behavior, colors, fonts, and positioning (user set via config.lua)
  • Configuration that allows repositioning of the spell and raid icons (user set via config.lua)
  • Configuration option for TANKMODE (green coloring on aggro) and namecoloring (colors pvp enemy names with their class color) (user set via config.lua - PLEASE see changelog for more details)
  • Target cast spell names (for both channeled and cast)
  • Mouse over highlighting
  • Cool new fade in effects when nameplates appear
  • Target Unit POWER bar under health frame. SET TO ONLY IN PVP (b/c who cares about mob power at this point in the game)
  • COMBO points for feral and rogues...AND addition of showing Chi, burning embers, soul shards, holy power, burning embers, etc. (SELF buffs ony)
  • Now works with Icicle and/or Plate Buffs

NOTE: I want to thank the following authors: Caelian, Tekkub, Luzz, and Rothar. Especially Caelian, b/c I have based this addon to his famous addon caelNameplates

Fair enough, I understand that. Instead of hiding the names, you can concatenate them by changing:

line 191
Code:
local newName = (len(oldName) > 30) and gsub(oldName, "%s?(.[\128-\191]*)%S+%s", "%1. ") or oldName
TO

Code:
local newName = (len(oldName) > <insert a number here to reduce the size>) and gsub(oldName, "%s?(.[\128-\191]*)%S+%s", "%1. ") or oldName
I would recommend changing that 30 to 15 or so. Let me know what you think.

Uninterruptable cast bar

Hey this is the best ever nameplates addon. I've searched for years to find a nameplate mod I even liked and this is the first one I've ever liked. I have one problem though. I cant tell when a cast bar is uninterruptable. So what I think would be an awesome addition to this addon would be if you put the shield icon around the spell ability when a cast cannot be interrupted. Similar to the way quartz does it.

Thanks for the great mod!

Thank you for the compliment! Actually, right now I have it set up like this: 1) if you can NOT interrupt the cast the castbar is RED and 2) if you CAN interrupt it it's YELLOW. I might add something in the future to show a shield over it, but I am not sure yet exactly what I want to do with that.

I hope this helps.

I've been using DocsNameplates for awhile now, but it seems that addon is now dead since the author has stopped playing WoW. It is still functional for the most part, but I'm in the process of looking for something that is currently being maintained and came across shNameplates. The reason for this post is that there are a couple of features of Docs that I really miss and was wondering the possibility of adding them to your mod.

First is Class Colored names for friendly players. I'm not sure if Docs is getting this information through the Ace libraries or if it can be grabbed from a simple mouse over (saving this information, at least between sessions, would require more resources though which goes against what you are trying to do here, but perhaps a per session basis, or the option to store for longer would be ok as long as the user knows it would use a larger memory footprint)

Second is the ability to hide health bars when not in combat, but keep the text formatting. To me it gets a little cluttered sitting in town and seeing tons of friendly health bars when I don't need any of that information.

If any of these features are already included I apologize as I have missed them.

Thanks for the consideration.

I've been using Docs Nameplates too and the single feature I miss the most: the colored star it gave people from your guild/friendlist (and party/raid, which wasnt that funky tbh).
Would adding something similar be too resource heavy?

@Estoroth: that actually isn't a bad idea. As far as cpu/mem usage, I would have to test it out. But the first thing that popped in my head is to use the name of the person and check if that person is: 1) in your guild 2) on your freinds list and 3) in your raid/party. If they are, to add some type of cue to decipher that. Something to think about and add in the future

@schmitmj: class colored nameplates on friendly targets, that is something I wanted and am still trying to figure out how to implement w/o adding libraries and going nuts with mem/cpu usage...a work in progress, I promise hehe. As far as hiding the health bars when not in combat, that could be an easy addition, but just to why would you want to hide enemy nameplates if not in combat? Or do you mean just friendly targets?

Glad to hear about the pursuit of class coloring on friendlies.

As far as the hiding of healthbars, it would only be on friendly targets. As a DPS, I personally don't need to have more healthbars on my screen then what I can see in Grid. That would allow me to focus on the enemy bars that would of course still be visable. The biggest pro to hiding the bars (again, only the bars, the text formatting would remain), would be that they would be hidden while in crowded places like Stormwind. I think others would agree that one doesn't need to see the healthbars of every ones AH alts all the time while browsing for items.

Again, thanks for the considerations, and good luck with your addon.

That is definitely something to think about, I will be testing and playing around with it as the updates go out.

What other addons are you running in that screen shot? I really like your setup, and I don't use many addons right now. Your screen looks really nice though. Thanks for the help.

I am using a lot of addons, that I have customized including: Dominos, wChat, and edited version of oUF_Caelian and oUF_Freebgrid, tiptac, tiny dps, wanderlust, nivbuffs, dockingstation/ldb stuff, and others. Is there anything in particular you have a question about?

Is there any plans on implementing aura icons above the nameplates to make it easier to multi DoT?

It is something to think about...but it will be down the road. However, the addon called ICICLE: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...48-Icicle.html works with my addon

Sorry if this has been asked before, is there a way to hide the level of the mob/player if its the same level as you?
Also, anyway to turn off health text/percentages?

Thanks for this great addon.
