flagRSP BC  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.6.0
by: Adriathys [More]

flagRSP BC is the original flagRSP AddOn updated and enhanced for the World of Warcraft 2.0 patch.

flagRSP BC is an AddOn that allows you to set a title, first name, and last name as well as setting a character status and a roleplaying flag. Other users of this AddOn or a compatible one, flagRSP2, ImmersionRP, or MyRolePlay, will be able to see these flags and you will be able to see theirs. This is mainly useful for RP and RP-PVP servers, but there's nothing preventing you from using this on servers of other types. Feel free to report any bugs or request features either here or on my portal.

If you do use this AddOn, do not use it with flagRSP2, ImmersionRP, or MyRolePlay as they will conflict.

flagRSP BC 0.6.0 Changes
Changes
- Numerous changes to reduce memory used.
- Tooltip code has been rewritten for faster performance.
- Works better, honest.

Bug Fixes
- Players who have never used flagRSP will now be able to have their data initialize correctly.
- No more error messages about tainting the default UI.

The description of this addon isn't very descriptive. What does it do?

Sorry about the poor description, I had a much better one typed up, but then Firefox ate it. When I get the next version up for the new patch, I'll have a much better description.

But the gist of this AddOn is that it allows you to set a description, alternate first name, last name, and title as well as roleplaying flags that, if others have a compatible AddOn, can view and read. It's mostly for RP and RP-PVP servers.

I've got a new minor version of flagRSP BC ready to come out, but I need to know if anyone's been experiencing a bug where the communication channel is becoming un-hidden after a log out. I've heard it happening with flagRSP2 and MyRolePlay, but I've been unable to reproduce it with this version.

If you've had this happen or no any way to reliably reproduce it, let me know and I'll sneak in a fix for it.

Short of finding any proof to the contrary (after hours of fiddling with addons, ad nauseum) I'm pretty damn sure it's a Blizzbug. Any and all custom channels (including those joined by an addon) are frequently set to output to the default chat pane, again, on character-login and /reload, including those you've never had enabled anyway.

The fix? Right click your chat tab and click off channels you don't want to 'hear'.

Alternately, there's an addon out to fix the problem (I believe it remembers the ones you had selected on logout and simply reinstates them on login/reload) but I can't remember the name, offhand. *sigh*

I came to that conclusion as well after some testing with no AddOns and having the problem still. But after posting that message, I dug through some of the flagRSP code and discovered that there's code to mute the data channel in ChatFrame1 every time flagRSP sedns a message to the channel.

Though, here's to hoping the issue gets resolved in a future patch.

Hi, i just downloaded the latest version and i can't see the bubble... by the bubble i meen the one that is above the targets frame.. naturaly this makes is very difficult to turn flag's on and off.
The ability to use the bubble is what made me use flagrsp and not flagrsp2 or Immersion rp which both don't have an ability to turn the description off and on. Im using X-perl frames which may have an effect on it however i have used x-perl with flag before so im a little confused.

Any help you can give would be great - Ela

I installed XPerl and had the same problem. What's happening is that XPerl doesn't just hide the normal Blizzard TargetFrame, instead it places it outside the viewable region and what flagRSP does is try to anchor the button to the Blizzard TargetFrame, causing the poor bubble to be hidden off screen.

However, typing

Code:
/script FlagRSPSettings[FlagRSP.rName][FlagRSP.pName].InfoBoxButtonX = 500; FlagRSPSettings[FlagRSP.rName][FlagRSP.pName].InfoBoxButtonY = 600
put the button in a visible place on my screen, the values you need to use may differ. Once you can see the button, you can just right click and drag it into place. I'll have a more elegant way of doing this in the next update, but this should, hopefully, work. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll see what else I can do.

That has made my day if not my week thanks a lot, its working perfectly and all i need to do is use it for all my characters now i had wondered myself if it was something to do with that as i read on an X-perl post about the blizzard UI frames being hidden (it was in answer to someone who saw both frames) although i lack the programing knoledge to work out how to do it myself.

Thanks again

I've updated my patch to clean up more of the color/relative levels/tooltip code and extend it without making it bloated.

Let me know if/what you like.

Like I said, I'm all for incorporating the tooltip changes in the next update and, if I don't have any complaints, I will.

And, as a known issue, don't open the Interface Options menu while in combat and running this AddOn. The only problem it'll cause is spamming the default chat frame with heaps of debug error messages. But, after spending hours cleaning up the code and getting rid of a lot of global variables, I finally seem to have stopped flagRSP from tainting the default UI in any way.

If anyone has any other reproducible errors, or even those that aren't, let me know and I'll work on fixing them.

Edit: I've uploaded a German localization, provided by Typhix, that will work with 0.5.8. Just replace the old localization.de.lua in the flagRSP folder and it should work.

Sorry about not including a Read Me, I thought there was. I guess that's what I get for assuming.

To start using flagRSP, either click the icon for it, which looks like a scroll, by your minimap, or type /rsp edit. Doing either of those things will bring up the Friendlist frame. There'll be three tabs to the side of the Friendlist frame: the first is the Friendlist, the second is the description editor, and the third is the configuration frame. The description editor allows you to set a Given Name, which will precede your charachter's name, a Surname, a title, and finally a description. These will all be viewable by other players with the AddOn or a compatible one. In the upper right hand corner of the description frame, is an arrow that will change the page and allow you to set your roleplaying style and character status.

Whether other players have an RP AddOn or not, you can add them to your Friendlist using the Friendlist tab. There's a couple of ways to do this, click on them, open the Friendlist, then click Add; open the Friendlist, click add, then type their name in; or type /add name. This name has to be the player's name that you'd see in the target frame and not anything they may have set their first name to. You can also set notes about individual players in the Friendlist so that if you've learned anything about them while roleplaying with them, you can add it there so that you don't forget.

The configuration frame allows you to change the settings of flagRSP BC. It loads with most of them turned off, but you can play around with them and see if you can set them up to how you like.

If I wasn't clear about anything, let me know and I'll elaborate.

Thank you for keeping this great mod alive!

I've only recently re-registered my account and begun playing, and had to go through several FlagRSP "continuation projects" which all lacked the feature set and polish of the original! Thankfully, all these mods seem to use the original FlagRSP protocol in some way, so the RP community doesn't become completely splintered.

Great work!
