Cartographer: Quest Objectives  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r29386
by: OverloadUT [More]

This is a cartographer module that creates notes to mark the locations where you complete quest objectives.

Features

  • Creates notes whenever a quest objective is "updated" which allows you to easily see where to go the next time you do the quest on a different character.
  • The notes have different icons depending on the type of objective: "Monster" objectives are clashing swords, "Item" objectives are loot bags, etc. Note that the icon doesn't always make sense as Blizzard sometimes classifies objectives as "Monster" even though they have nothing to do with killing anything.
  • Notes grow in size depending on how many of a particular objective you completed near a location based on how many total are needed. This helps when trying to pick a location to go to complete a quest: Bigger icons means it's probably a better location to go to.
  • Quest objective notes are only shown when they are relevant to you; they will only show if you are on the quest and have not completed the particular objective.
  • Your current objective progress is shown on the tooltips of the notes, and it's colored by completeness.
  • Party support! If anyone in your party is running any Ace2 mod that embeds Quixote (QuestFu and this mod are two examples) then any notes you have for quests they are on will be shown on the map, even if you have completed the quest already.
  • Also, if a party member gains progress on a quest objective, a note will be added at their current location. Some logic attempts to verify that they didn't get an update for an invalid reason, like someone trading them a quest item.
  • Ability to "ban" a quest from creating notes. There are some quests that can be completed anywhere and creating notes for them would just pointlessly clutter up the map. You can simply right click on any of the notes for the quest and choose "Delete all notes for this objective forever" and you will no longer see any notes for that objective.
  • Special note sharing features! You can "query" your guild or party for notes on the quests that you are on. If anyone in your guild has notes for any of your quests, they will be sent to you and added to your map.
  • You can also query your guild or party for a complete database dump. This will send over every note for every quest they've ever added to their map.
  • You can "ban" a particular player in the same way you can ban a quest from adding notes to your map. Simply right click on a note and choose "Delete all notes from this sender forever"
  • Note that currently there is no feedback for when you receive notes; they just appear on your map. This will be improved in future versions.
  • You can ONLY receive quest objective notes if you actually query the guild for them. People can never send you quest objective notes manually, so you don't have to worry about filling up your map with notes if you don't want to.

Cart QOb shows "out of date"

Cartographer Quest Objectives shows "Out of Date" in charactor selection screen at the Add-ons list.

Would you please update this fantastic add on. It worries me when my most useful add ons are our of date.

Thanks

Malolen

I've started a database sharing thread on the wowace forums:

As I collect and compile them, I will post updates. Please share your data file for the cause.

Out of curiosity, did you read the big bold text at the top of the page?
This file is a Addon for Cartographer by ckknight. You must have that installed before this Addon will work.

If not, then you should start with that.

I got the same errors as below, and yes it is something to do with EQL. If you disable it this mod works great. UberQuest screws with it as well. I think its just buggy programing in both...too many different people picked them up over the years. Anyway , i wish it worked with one of em cuz the stock log just SUCKS! This mod is worth it though. Just pick up questfu or monkey quest er sumthin. GREAT MOD

Re: Re: Error message

I got the same error with the version of EQL3 I was running, but it went away when I updated it (however... the old EQL was working fine, and this new one seems rather buggy. Meh.).

I looked at the offending code in Quixote, and it really makes no sense. It looks like a Blizzard function is returning nil, which the documentation says it never does. That being the case, the only thing I can think of is if another addon is hooking that function and messing it up. Could you try disabling Extended Quest Log completely and seeing if you still get the error? Also if you could link me to the version you are using I could take a look at the code to see what it's doing.

I stand corrected!

Oops. I didnt mean world map. I meant that my zone map was cluttered, Stone Talon to be exact. I did not see the scale option, I more then likely missed it. Again my fault. The part about it cluttering my map was also due to me not turning in the current quest until before I logged. If the notes only appear when the quest is active thats great. Again my fault for not testing it properly. I will re-download and re-evaluate this mod. Thanks for the quick reply and straightening me out. I was hoping for it!

I'm not sure what you mean. Nothing fundamental about the placement of the notes has been changed.

This mod does not ever place notes on the world map; it only puts them on each area's map. Also, notes are only shown if you are on the quest and have not completed the objective (by default). You can adjust the icon scale and opacity as you like to make the notes smaller and less intrusive.

Look at the Redridge screenshot on this page; it's a pretty good example of how cluttered your map might get while questing there. The Bloodmyst screenshot is an example of how many notes might get created after you've done every quest in the zone, although as stated previously normally you would not see all of those notes at once unless you turn off "Hide Inactive Quests".

Edit: Oh, one more thing: If you have a quest where you can complete it literally anywhere in the zone, you can simply right click any of those notes and go to "Delete all for this objective forever" to ban notes from that quest from being created.
