flagRSP MoP  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.2.7
by: Syeira, Typhix

flagRSP MoP is an add-on that allows you to set a title, first name, and last name as well as setting a character status and a roleplaying flag. Other users of this add-on will be able to see these flags and you will be able to see theirs. This is mainly useful for RP servers, but there's nothing preventing you from using this on servers of other types. Feel free to report any bugs or request features here.

flagRSP MoP (formerly known as flagRSP BC, flagRSP WotLK, and flagRSP Cataclysm) is the original flagRSP add-on updated and enhanced for the World of Warcraft 5.0 patch. This continued version bases on the work done by Flokru and Adriathys. Since both authors have abandoned the project I picked up the code and fixed some open bugs.

Please note that flagRSP MoP will make changes to your tooltips. This may conflict with other addons that manipulate the tooltip. If this occurs, you can turn tooltip alteration off and won't run into any trouble.

Version information for v1.2.2 (compatible to WoW 5.2)
As always with a new version it's a very good idea to make an update of your flagrsp files ("YourWowDirectory/WTF/Account/YourAccountName/SavedVariables/flagRSP.lua" and "YourWowDirectory/WTF/Account/YourAccountName/CharacterName/SavedVariables/flagRSP.lua" for each character). Just rename them (for example to flagRSPbak.lua) or copy them somewhere else (or zip them).

The friendlist is going to be changed in 1.2.2. So when you log in, the names in the Friendlist will look like "Sye (Syeira) Ravenwing". The rp name is now handled completely independent from the ingame name. That means, the ingamename must be exactly the name of the character ingame or the charname-servername (without spaces) for people from other servers. But the rp name you can just change to what you want.

The good news is, that this change in the friendlist structure allows you to create flags for people without any flagaddon - or even for people from CROSSREALMS!

How crossrealm friends works:

  1. Take your new friend into the target
  2. Click on the "Add Friend"-button at the bottom of the flagRSP friendlist
  3. The ingame name is filled automatically, e.g. "Syeira-Forscherliga" for other realms than yours, or just "Syeira" if it is from your realm
    a) If you have no target, or want to add someone else, you have to insert the correct ingame name like "Syeira-Forscherliga" or "Syeira"
  4. Fill in the firstname and surname (or just one...), title, notes and set the friendstate
    a) If the new friend is from your own realm and has a flag addon, the rp info is taken from the flag infos
  5. Click the "Add" button
  6. Enjoy

FlagRSP will now use the information of the friendlist as a tooltip, if no flag is present.

Unfortunately, the direct addon communication between cross realm zones is still not working, but with this way you can do it manually:

You make a character on the foreign realm, e.g. "Argent Dawn". Go to the people you want the flag from, and mouseover them. Wait a little until you can see their flags. Then you can logout and switch back to your character. The next time you see them, you should have a flag for them (but it might be outdated).
Also, you should set a higher purgeflagintervall for flagRSP via
Code:
/rsp purgeflaginterval X
(X in seconds).
For example clears
/rsp purgeflaginterval 4838400
all flags older than 2 months (the default is 14 days).

Features
  • Set one of four roleplaying flags to show other players your preferred roleplaying style.
  • Set one of four character states to show other players how much in character you currently are or if you are searching for contact
  • Choose a first name for your character.
  • Choose a last name for your character.
  • Choose a title for your character.
  • Add a description of the outward appearance of your character.
  • All those attributes mentioned above will be visible to other users of flagRSP or compatible addons.
  • An enhanced friend list that can hold an unlimited number of entries.
  • You can add players, NPCs and even whole guilds of both factions to your friend list.
  • You can mark characters, guilds and NPCs on your friend list as known, friend or foe.
  • Add detailed notes to your friends or foes in your friend list.
  • Replace exact level information of all units by relative ones (from “extremely puny” to “hopelessly superior”).
  • Hide names of unknown players.
  • Characters marked as foe will be signalized acoustically when hovering them with your mouse cursor.
  • Make PVP rank, title, guild and guild rank of other characters visible in your tooltip. Or hide them!
  • flagRSP's tooltip modifications can be turned off if needed to avoid conflicts with other tooltip addons.
  • Every feature is optional.

flagRSP MoP is fully translated to English, German and Russian language. Translations for other languages are wanted, so if you like, feel free to send me your own. A French localization which covers about 90 percent is included.

Compatibility

flagRSP MoP now supports the MarySue protocol (MSP). As there should be only one addon implementing MSP, please run only one of flagRSP, FlagRSP2, TotalRP 2 or MyRolePlay.

Trouble shooting

Common problems can be solved by simple commands you type into your chat window.
  • ''/rsp resetinfobox'' — This will reset the position of the infobox that displays your target's character description. This is useful if you accidentally moved the infobox out of scope.
  • "/rsp resetbutton" — This will reset the button that typically appears above your target frame. The button is movable so it is possible to move it behind other ui elements. The command will reset it to the target frame.
  • ''/rsp alwaysinfobox'' — By default flagRSP remembers if a target's description window was shown or hidden the last time you clicked on it. You can use this to command if you want your description window to always pop up automatically when you click on a flagged target. You can use this command to return to default behavior as well.
  • "/fl mm an" — Displays the button at the minimap.
  • "/fl mm aus" — Hides the button at the minimap.
  • ''/fl show'' — Shows your friendlist and your flagRSP settings.
  • ''/fl hide — Hides the friendlist frame.
  • ''/rsp'' — Shows a couple of useful commands regarding some flagRSP core features.
  • ''/fl'' — Shows a couple of useful commands regarding some friendlist frame features.

That did not work.

It keeps saying it is loading 0.6.2, even though I have loaded the latest version. The interface will not open.

I suppose I will be trying a different add-on for my roleplaying.

If flagRSP tells you it is version 0.6.2 then the new version is not yet properly installed. Usually this is not necessary, but please delete the folders flagrsp and flagrsploader before installing the new version to make sure that the old one is really gone.

Are you running WoW on Windows Vista by the way? Keep in mind that Vista may redirect files to your AppData folder if you try to copy them to a folder with insufficient rights (such as Program Files). Perhaps, the new flagrsp version was never really installed to your WoW folder.

That could well be the case. I had already tried deleting the two folders and running WoW with no add-on and it still had 0.6.2, so they are somewhere else. I am running Vista, but I do not know where the files are located, so I cannot do a clean delete and then re-install the latest version.

I havent cracked open RSP-WOTLK, but this code already exists in ImmersionRP and is available in the form of libraries as well.

I will say that there may still be another method of data communication, as author OrionShock did start a roleplay addon project (yet has stopped development). From reading the Communications.lua file, I see the following comment:
The problem still remains one of compatibility. As I have stated on MyRolePlays forums, I can write a superior Comm protocol right now - but its useless if it means my mods users will be unable to see or be seen by the users of the other mods. I'm frustrated to the point of contemplating downloading their mods, rewriting them to use better code, and releasing them myself.

Although I was (and still am) keen about contributing user feedback, I find myself at an impasse regarding this issue. It seems that this issue needs to be either tested through implementation or put to an end. I'd be more than happy to test changes and provide feedback, but that is all I can do.
I just noticed your PM, so I'll talk to you more about working on a better method there.

The protocol itself cannot be changed without breaking compatibility. An option I've been investigating is writing an entirely new protocol to go along with the new transportation layer, but while we're all still using the same channel theres no reason to alter the transmission protocol. We'd end up with an effect similar to MyRolePlays superflurous second channel, which is just wasteful.

For what it's worth, I was finally able to locate all the places where my operating system had stored the older flagRSP version. I did a clean delete and re-installed the latest version, and it seems to be functioning alright now.

Thank you for your help Typhix.

Error Message

My problem has been fixed!

I cleaned out my WTF folder and Interface folder and did a clean install of FlagRSP, and then added my other Add-ons back into the mix one by one. It's working fine now, so there was obviously some file in my WTF folder that I was missing when it came to clearing out the old FlagRSP files.

Thanks again for continuing this project!

I'm having a curious bug that occurs on all characters. It seems to be triggered by an initial login or when description information is updated.

If I update my description, my chat box fills with the following:

"[xtensionxtooltip2] <character name>: dp <my character name>"

I've gotten many of the same entry, one after the other for a different amount of times. The text is in yellow, and I am not listening to xtensionxtooltip2 (channel is not checked off). These lines do not seem to be considered system messages, which are also printed in yellow. Unchecking "System Messages" in the chat settings menu doesn't do any good.

This is occurring on the most up-to-date version of flagRSP WotLK.

Hm, I've never seen this before and I am not able to reproduce this.

I know there are some addons out there that will alert you if your character name appears in any channel. Are you sure you don't have one of those addons installed? Does this chat box message appear if flagRSP runs as the sole addon?

Typhix, that was it; seems that one of Chatter's modules was echoing the xtensionxtooltip2 channel. I forgot that the echo was printed in yellow. Thanks for the quick reply! Looking forward to further updates, best wishes to you!

Little error and a question

getting an error with the latest version (1.0.4)
Code:
flagRSP-1.0.4\flagRSP.lua:1306: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)
<string>:"*:OnEvent":1: in function <[string "*:OnEvent"]:1>
apart from this (only shows up on login) have some problem that i don't get any prenames shown in the tooltip.
did setup a char completely new, with just flagRSP active to try it out
surnames get shown okay, but prenames just dont show up in the tooltip (but they do show up in the friendlist when i add the player there)

Alchmo, I am currently not able to reproduce your problem. The error you're seeing crops up when flagrsp reads its own settings. These settings should always be accessible - obviously they are not on your installation. Prenames should work as well.

There is something odd with your error message. It says "flagRSP-1.0.4\flagRSP.lua". flagRSP-1.0.4 is not the correct installation folder. All files have to be in a folder called flagrsp. Please make sure that flagRSP is properly installed. The folder structure within the zip file has to stay intact. Futher help

OfferingstoAnubis, since I am currently not able to reproduce this, could you do me a favour?

Please locate the file flagrsp.toc in your installation folder. Open it with Notepad (or any editor you like) and add the following line directly beneath the last line starting with two hedges (#):

Code:
## LoadOnDemand: 1
Save the file, then restart WoW and login with flagRSPloader activated.

Does this error still appear after that?

actually the folder structure is intact :-) it is just that BugSack does give you the Addon name (derived from the TOC file) followed by the file instead of the folder and file as teh default Blizz error popup does.
the error messae from the Blizz error shower, is exactly as the one OfferingstoAnubis listed.

tried again with a full new initialization of flagRSP (so to speak removed all old saved variables files and restarted WoW) still the same, pretty strange, thought at first that maybe some tooltip placer addon may be blocking, but don't get any prenames even with the default Blizzard Tooltip (tried with flagRSP2 and they showed up there, just not with flagRSP, but i don't wanna switch :-( )

could it be that there is some setting not written with the latest version (as it no longer uses the Loader) that still gets looked up?

Edit: did abit browsing through the savedvariables files for flagrsp, and it seems to correctly save the prenames (just listed as "name" in the lua files), so by all it should work, sadly it really does not. Okay tried it abit more, and do know now that the prenames are shown when i disable "Hide Names" in the options, if i activate this option (which is the one i like the most regrettably) prenames dont get shown anymore
