Deranged

Version: 04.00.00.00.B2
by: Garland [More]

.: Deranged - Fourth Milestone (RC2) :.

Current version is in beta! This version is likely stable and fully functional but the code cleanup for release has not taken place yet and the manual has not been updated. If you consider yourself a player and not a tester then grab the last release version, which is 03.03.04.00.R. If you wish to test the latest version then please do so but do it with this in mind.

This is the spiritual successor of BigWigs TotemRange, to describe it in but a few words it's a mod which monitors when ranged buffs are lost/gained and can be used as a communication system for more efficient ranged-buff use.

If you're interested and want to know more, you can check out the manual at Google Docs. The manual is also included in the zip (in the Other folder).

If you're looking for something a bit more tangible, there's now a video demonstration over at veoh. (Note: If bad commentaries or attrociously-low levelled characters offend you, don't click that link. URL now fixed.).

Note: SCT is listed as an optional dependency for this mod, it's used by the SCTAlert module.

Changelog (the version included in the zip has better formatting).

Hm, I thought there'd be more interest in this one with the new whisper system and dynamic nature in place, are theere problems with it or maybe bugs?

I'll give it a shot since i group with a pally a lot. hoping it works with totems too, since i never got totem range to work. since i don't raid, didn't want to have big bulky thing up. hope you make a version of totemrange without bigwigs

Ok, i'm getting a dependancy missing, SCT. =/ where do i find this?
Found SCT at WoWace.

Now i'm an error message at login though,

It's possible you don't have the latest SCT (which isn't your fault, files on WoWI aren't updated as often as they are on the Ace SVN).

The latest SCT can be found at http://files.wowace.com/. I hope that helps!

Oh, I see. I'm sorry, I misunderstood the post because I was a bit out of it at the time. That's why I haven't replied in all this time, I've been a bit bedridden. So I'm not in any state to update at the moment really, luckily the fix is easy.

It's just a line I forgot to remove, it was from an earlier experimental version. Just delete line 2 (the Babble line) in the whisper module and it'll work fine. When I first read that I thought it was saying about Babble as an SCT dependency, I just read it with a clearer head now and I understood what I'd done.

Again, I apologise for that. So delete that line and you'll be good to go.

I'll have an official fix up as soon as I feel up to it, you have my word on that.

I know the feeling.

no worries. i been home sick for 3 days with the flu, so can understand being out of it.

What i ended up doing (after rereading the manual) was delete the whisperer module and install the baselist. But umm... it's still not really doing anything. i drop a totem and move out of range and nothing. after playing with SCT i assume it's supposed to make a floating message in either SCT 1 2 or Message slot. but it's not. do i need to have SCT set a certain way? I've unchecked almost all the options on SCT, since they duplicate what i see from ingame anyway. is ther any certain thing in SCT that HAS to be on?

Hoping i can this working as it has great promise.

Beyond the BS thing (which was silly) I'm honestly bamboozled as to why this isn't working for you. One reason could be that I run disembedded (I load my libraries once, not 150+ times, I prefer it that way) and it just doesn't want to work embedded...

I could upload a version with the libraries included as their disembedded selves for you to try that, if you like?

Is it giving you any errors at the moment? Do you have !BugGrabber and BugSack, are they seeing anything at all? Also, have you tried adding partial buff names to see whether it only fails under certain conditions (such as 'Strength of Earth' instead of 'Strength of Earth totem')?

I am confused because I'm currently using it here myself and it works fine and I'd like to track down whatever's causing these problems, I don't want to leave everyone with a broken mod, really. So if we can find out what's causing the problems, I really will fix it.

(Oh, before I forget, I have SCT set to its defaults. I'm just making basic SCT calls. I saw the trick in LootAlert and expanded upon it. You might wnat to try LootAlert to see whether or not that works for you.)

I see the problem and personally, I plead the fifth and blame it directly upon the fever I had. << The problem is that I had made changes ages and ages ago to fix an error and I thought I'd committed them with .01 but comparing the code between my local version and the .01 uploaded, this is apparently not the case.

Try .02, that really should work for everyone. The embedded libs should be fine and SCT on any settings should be fine.

The next time I don't see problems that others do, feel free to hit me with a cluebat and ask whether I've actually comitted my latest changes. Le sigh.

(Edit)

Also, it's about time I started using a Changelog, too. I'll do that.

glad to see work on this progressing just downloaded and installed now, wont be able to test it out for a bit (so close to 70...must quest/grind...arrgh... lol)
but ill sure be looking forward to giving it a nice test run
but no mention of me in the credits in your .toc? ./cry
haha j/k man
cant wait to test it out

one suggesstion, perhaps enable MSBT as a dep in place of SCT (i use SCT but i know plenty who prefer MSBT itld be a shame for them to miss out on a good mod)

more feedback after i put 'er thru the ringer

edit: nevermind, im in the MANUAL! lol

just read through the docs and this mod looks to be even bigger and better than what i had originally thought, the multi-wihsper implementation is awesome, cant wait to try it out.
and thank you most kindly for the /nod in your manual credits
im just happy to do my little part to help the WoW modding community

If you think that's something, just wait until you see the second milestone. I don't want to come over as big-heady but I am proud of this one, if only a little. I've put real effort into testing and polishing this release up, especially after the botched first two versions. I'm having so much fun running around with my Draenei technoshaman too and his little totems that now sound suspiciously like a proton pack. So I think the applications of Deranged just grew once again...

Anyway, I hope you and everyone else here enjoys using this as much as I enjoyed putting it together. There shouldn't be any problems this time but if there are, I'll do my utmost to fix them as quickly as possible. As always too, suggestions for new modules are always welcome as at the time of putting this together (after a little brainstorming), I couldn't come up with anything else myself. At least, nothing of worth.

So, give it a shot, play around with it and have fun. A final thought before I sign off with this post; it'd be really fun to start a sort of collaborative Deranged archive of sounds and settings for this mod. I wouldn't know how to go about it really so I'd have to give it some serious thought but this could become something special if we could get proper (non frivolous) alert sounds for all of the buffs that time out silently. Just a thought anyway, so off I go. Have fun!

I've been busy ...again. << Check out the changelog and see what I've done, I've fixed a few things I've found that needed fixing, I added a new element for better database control and most importantly, I got my hands dirty with my Pastmaster Lib and retooled the buffchecker to make it more robust and to ... allow weapon buffs! Deranged can now do weapon buffs, when they start, when they end, the whole shebang.

I don't know about you guys but I needed that last part because due to being a bit partially sighted, visual cues are hard to follow. Sound cues? Much easier. Of course, I mightn't have made it if I didn't need it but I hope the rest of you enjoy the inclusion too!

This was a hard night's work, pretty much. Just clearing up after the second milestone, I did a lot more testing in areas I hadn't thought to and I think I've dragged out just about every last bug. Let me know if you find any that I haven't spotted.

Ah, it's done that to me before, I think the update system is a bit buggy. The thing is, according to my control panel for editing this page even, it says the latest file is Deranged.02.03.02.R.zip but you're right, on clicking the link it goes to 02.00.00.R. It's all very strange.

I don't want to keep you waiting, so what I've done whilst it's being revalidated is put it up on a file host. You can find the latest version at YourFileHost for the time being, I'm sure the latest will validate here quickly enough but just in case something goes wrong again...

Either way, you've got access to the latest now. Sorry about that.

(Edit)

Hm, that's twice it's eaten my 02.03.02.R version now, if this third attempt doesn't succeed then I'll try and get ahold of the management to see if they can't help out, it's probably some weird database burp or somesuch. Either way, the latest is up on YourFileHost (link above) until I can get this sorted out, I do apologise for the inconvenience.

New version and a new milestone at that! No new features this time but a lot of reworked code, everything I've done in this release is contained within the Updates.txt file, either in the zip or at Google Docs. I'm certainly doing a better job of keeping track of what I've changed now that I'm consistently updating that file.

Oh and if there are modules you don't use, check out the manual as that details exactly what you can delete to get rid of all the parts surrounding those modules.

Okay, that's it. I'm done. I'm going back to bed.

(Edit)

Who can spot the typo in the library names? <<

I was swapping libraries and testing Deranged with standalone and embedded (as I do with each release) but this time I forgot to rename one back. So Pastmaster has found itself named *Cough* Pastamaster. Take out the a and everything will work peachy, if you have the standalone then you have nothing to worry about.

I really needed to go to bed earlier.

(Edit)

There, got that silly directory name typo fixed. Gaw, I would've made a perfect milestone this time too, if not for that.
