Ever get tired of WoW's default music?
Wish you could use your Final Fantasy battle music while in combat?

Major upgrade coming soon
I'm preparing a major internal update to the add-on.
One of the problems with the add-on at the moment is that all the events know about each other. For example, all the events must know about zone events because when they end, they must restore zone music. That's bad because the more events I add, the more it becomes a nightmare to make sure everything works together. This problem also blocks a cool feature I want to implement which is to let you guys add your own events through the UI. But before I do that, I need to simplify the way each event is handled. Fortunately I had a really good idea last night. I realized what would resolve all these issues is to keep a stack of events that are currently active, and always play what’s at the top of the stack. Whenever I remove an event from the top, I automatically play the next track below it on the stack. This eliminates the need of each event having to 'restore' the correct event manually when they end. For example, the zone events are at the bottom of the stack, and battle events at the top of the stack. So battle events always override zone music, and when I remove the battle event, we return to whatever zone music is under it on the stack. If you were on a mount, and then I push the battle event over it because you got aggro, when you lose aggro, I remove the battle music, and we return to the mount music automatically. Anyways, bottom line is I'm preparing a big upgrade that will help me add new events more easily, and let you guys add new events too! I could also integrate the events you send me in the package, so that there's much more events to choose from. |

Upcoming update
I’m very excited about my next release. Although it will not add any visible features, under the hood the addon will be much better.
A lot of issues with my addon were because events didn’t behave well with each other. One event can easily interfere with another. So I had to do a lot of complicated code (lets call it the glue code) to make sure we didn’t interrupt a high priority event with a trivial one. Or I had to make sure that when an event ended, we returned to the correct event (zone, mount, stealth, etc). The more events I added, the more glue code I needed to add. To solve these escalating problems, I’ve implemented the stack system which I talked about in a previous comment. The stack system works like this: Events are placed in a stack based on their priority. The addon only plays the top-most event (with the highest priority). When a high priority event ends, the next priority item is played. That’s it. That’s all I needed to remove ALL the glue code. And it works! I’ve already got this working on my machine, and everything still seems in order. This means it’s now easier to add new events, maintain the existing ones, reduce all the issues of events interfering with each other, and opens the door to adding custom events. |

Hello, I'm a big fan of this mod, so I thought I should let you know if you don't already.
The latest patch (1.11) broke it, along with a slew of other addons I use. It seems to work fine, it trys to play the songs, but you can't hear the songs themselves, just the default WoW music. I'll see if I can find anything else ingame that could help find the problem, and thus get it fixed. |

Future Version.
Pretty lame of me to just check this site because the mods broke, but I'm glad I did, because your comments are awesome.
I'm really looking forward to the next version, regardless of when it's released or not, I'm hoping that blizzard have not broken the mod entirely because in all seriousness I probably won't play the game without this mod. Others I can live without but this mod is really the glue that holds wow together. |

Re: Future Version.
Verified, it's broke. 1.11 breaks Soundtrack in ~two~ ways, if I may add.
One is that the music simply does not play anymore, the other being that the blank mp3's that were dropped in the data folder in order to block the short tracks that get played when you enter cities also no longer work... ...this is largely due to the change they made to block skinners from doing what they do- apparently the data folder no longer reads with priority over the MPQ archives, although I have noted that all the files that were dropped into that folder remain intact, which leads me to think that the game simply no longer reads from the folder. In short Morricone and the skinners were using the same trick- dropping files in the Data folder to override files in the archives, now it's all brokey. Cute. |

Oh bummer... Well hopefully the big M can figure this out. I didn't realize how much I came to enjoy my own music for events/zones until last night when I tried to play without it.

Mod broken until 1.11.2
Hey everyone, as you probably already know the mod is no longer functioning because the PlaySoundFile method I need to play music tracks no longer works since the 1.11 patch. Blizz said it would get fixed in 1.11.1 which was released yesterday but PlaySoundFile still doesn't work. Now the official forums say the fix will be in 1.11.2, but I have no idea when that will be. Hopefully next week.
In the meantime, there's really nothing I can do. There's no trick I can conjure to get the music to play without the PlaySoundFile method |
