Livestock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.4.1
by: Kharthus [More]

Livestock: For all your companion needs

Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently eight slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation. /livestock and /ls both work for commands.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone/party]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone, subzone or party. For more information, check the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock [mount/nomount/pet/nopet]" to add/remove pets and mounts from the random summon list. Uses your active summon.
  • Use "/livestock debug" - Prints out useful debugging information that can assist the developers in solving problems. Use the command again to turn off the debugging output.

Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.

Im on the test servers trying out the mod right now and i can't see to understand how to get this to work. It made the macros for me. But what do i do after that? Ive tried binding the macros to a key and while my mouse is over a pet in my "c" menu it tells me to press the critters menu button ...when i do nothing happens

This is what i get when the critter, flying mounts and land mounts buttons are pressed
http://www.hdimage.org/images/shuoz0...2108032112.jpg

Oddly enough a /console reloadui fixed that! Onward with testing!

Testing this right on the ptr. So far no more errors. Summons random pets like a charm. Same with ground mounts and flying mounts.

Suggestions: Add a check all button to the mounts lists

Thanks for the update, Elloria. The mod was saying that you didn't have your list of pets selected yet. By default, the addon starts with all pets unchecked, so when you try and summon one using the macro, it's telling you you haven't let it know which ones to check.

Typing /livestock and selecting the critters menu will let you access the critter checklist, but it looks like you figured that out based on your later comment!

I will see about "check all" for mounts - the update I'm uploading now has a filter to screen out epic vs. non-epic mounts so I'd have to see what check all would do in that case.

Thanks for letting me know - I looked at the error screen you had posted earlier, too. That shouldn't be happening (I thought I put in something to catch that...) and I think the newer version fixes it - if you happen to stop by and upgrade to v0.2, make sure you use the delete variables code I posted in the beginning of the description for best results.

I was going to do something similar, but instead of creating a whole new window, why dont you use blizzards!

Just take the highlight function that they have and use it to select multiple pets at the same time that you would like to summon.

Although the trick would be getting the code for it, since its not in any pack i see yet.

By the "highlight function" do you mean the border that appears when you click on a pet?

This is certainly an idea, but in my experience I've found it's easier to make a quick window of my own because it's easier than trying to go through Blizzard's code to see how it's all put together. Using the Blizzard code isn't the most natural thing, because we can't edit it directly, so we have to hook it or overwrite it and that can make it more difficult to keep track of - at least for me. It's not tough to do, but it's a bit more complex than just making something from scratch that accesses the same information, just without all the visual flair.

Also, I don't like having to page through pets 12 at a time, so I figured a way that accessed them all at once would be more efficient. Hence checklists. Plus, I figure the window would only be accessed rarely (when people gain new pets or mounts), so I wasn't really too concerned with its appearance.

Love the mod

Some visual "feedback" on the icons would be nice, when clicked. Right now they're static.

Thanks, I'm glad it's useful for you!

I'll look into this - this is the first mod I've made where I've had to make my own buttons, and so I need to look into a) how to properly put in a "highlight" and b) how to draw it in Photoshop (urk).

Edit: Ah, this isn't hard at all, I'm just having trouble making the highlight texture look like I didn't draw on the button with a crayon. The next release will have button highlighting in it

Sure, I'll put this in the next release. Check/uncheck all with mounts is implemented but I don't think I uploaded that version yet. So the next version will have both of those updates.

Thanks for the word-of-mount promoting!

Wow, I didn't even notice I did that... I've been typing "mount" so often in the code that I think when I started with "mou" my fingers finished with "nt" instead of "th." Sigh.

I can't really think of many other updates to include at this point, except for perhaps 3D model support as mentioned below. I might as well put that in for the fun of it!

What do you mean by that? Like putting a 3d model of the mount at the selection screen? That would be awesome instead of just a list. Sometimes I forget what they look like. Yea colors are listed but sometimes a visual is just a good thing to have. Keep up the great work.

Ps: Just hit 50 mounts tonight thanks to the brewfest kodo drop hehe. yay!

I experienced the error you mentioned, on an alt with only one mount (the non-epic land mount "Striped Frostsaber").
Max mounts is 1
Error for mount 1, ID: 6074, name: nil, spellID: 8394, icon: Interface\Icons\Ability_Mount_WhiteTiger, summoned: nil
The error occured when I logged on after updating to the current version of Livestock (0.5). I logged on inside a building (can't mount here). Since this character only has one mount, I do not use any macros or Livestock buttons to manage the mount, just the button for the mount dragged from the shift-p tab to the action bar.

I have a screenshot but it really doesn't provide any more information than I gave above.

Perfect - this looks like a Blizzard bug, which means there's little I can do about it for now except wait.
