Livestock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.4.1
by: Kharthus [More]

Livestock: For all your companion needs

Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently eight slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation. /livestock and /ls both work for commands.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone/party]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone, subzone or party. For more information, check the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock [mount/nomount/pet/nopet]" to add/remove pets and mounts from the random summon list. Uses your active summon.
  • Use "/livestock debug" - Prints out useful debugging information that can assist the developers in solving problems. Use the command again to turn off the debugging output.

Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.

So you just screwed author's choice to not include his addon in wowmatrix database?

zirka, thanks for this suggestion. While those items are related to travel, I think I'm going to keep Livestock away from them. It wasn't easy to get the addon to manage spells (Travel Form, Flight Forms, Levitate, etc.) at times and mount macros (the main random mount summoning). Adding items into the mix for such a specific circumstance seems like it'd be more trouble than it's worth.

Possible option?

Hey,

First, thanks for the great add-on, it works wonderfully. Next, would there be a way to add an option to summon a ground mount instead of a flying mount using the smart macros? Such as <click> runs regular, flight or ground witch ever is the default for the location, or <alt-click> summons a ground mount?

Of course if there is already an option for this and I'm just missing the obvious please feel free to point it out.

Thank you.

Hi Tarquin, there's no "built-in" option to modify the Smart Macro but you can adjust it on your own once it's created! Try this on for size:

/click [mod:alt] LivestockLandMountsButton; LivestockComboButton

An alt-click will force a land mount but any other click will get a Smart Mount out.

That's odd, misa. Thanks for alerting me to this - try /livestock scale 1 and see if that fixes the issue. Are you using any other mods which scale windows?

Not sure if this has been brought up before, but the ghost wolfy pet from using Don Carlos' hat isn't being recognised by Livestock. Always tries to summon a new pet when I move ;o

It has, and I have a fix in the works for this and other "equipment" pets, but I haven't had time to upload a new version. Here is how you can temporarily patch it on your own:

- Open Livestock.lua with WordPad or TextEdit
- Search for this phrase: function Livestock.MoveSummon()
- You should arrive at a line with the next line reading like this:
Code:
if donotsummon or UnitChannelInfo("player") or UnitCastingInfo("player") or IsFalling() or Recompense.CheckBuffsAgainstTable(restrictSummonForTheseBuffs) then
- Change that to
Code:
if donotsummon or UnitChannelInfo("player") or UnitCastingInfo("player") or IsFalling() or Recompense.CheckBuffsAgainstTable(restrictSummonForTheseBuffs) or IsEquippedItem("Don Carlos' Famous Hat") then
This will fix the issue (if you're on an English-localized server, that is)

some stuff

Thank you so much for making this kind of thing, by the way. I have a few comments and a possible bug.

Since /livestock brings up the checklist configurator thing, and the interface menu category click basically just opens up another menu and closes the interface menu, perhaps add a /livestock menu or /livestock config or somesuch slash command so I don't have to hit ESC, click interface, click Addons, click the category?

Could the config screen be movable?

When all of the character specific macro slots are used up, could it overflow into the general macros instead of throwing an error? Further, if all the macro slots are used up, could it just default to printing the text of the macro that it was going to create?

On to the possible bug:

On my druid, I set the configuration to:
[x] Enable Flight Form behavior with Smart Mounting
[_] Safe Flight: ...
[x] Allow Livestock mounting to break Stealth effects
[x] Smart Mounting casts Ghost Wolf/Travel Form in combat
[x] Smart Mounting casts Ghost Wolf/Travel Form while moving (OOC)
[x] Smart Mounting shifts you from caster form into Cat Form indoors

I freed up a character specific macro slot and hit the Smart macro button under General. This is what it created:

Code:
/dismount[noflying]
/click [nocombat]LivestockComboButton
It seems like that should:
  1. Not have /dismount[noflying] due to the [_] on Safe Flight
  2. Not have the [nocombat] conditional since it has to cast in combat to work with Travel Form
  3. Most importantly, actually be clicking LivestockSmartButton since I clicked the Smart macro button
That's all I have! Thanks again. Once I corrected the macro, it has been working perfectly.

EDIT: Found something else as I used it:

Druids can directly shift from non-vehicular mounts into forms. Currently, if (for example) I am [nocombat, flyable] on a ground mount, pressing the smart button will dismount me, then shift me to flight form on the next press.

Also, I read about how you wanted bugs and requests in the trackers. I'll enter this stuff if you want, but I wanted to give you a chance to address it first in case I'm missing something or did something wrong.

I'm getting rid of the config screen and putting it back into the Interface options next update, whenever I manage to get to that. As I see it, since it's more of a "fix and forget" sort of thing that gets changed pretty rarely, there shouldn't be a huge need to have it be customizable.

This is possible, and something I'll keep in mind.

On to the possible bug:

Managing the macros is something I decided to leave to the player(s), because they can be modified easily by people who know what they're doing -- as it seems you do. There's no dynamic system to create the macros, they're static text that just gets changed into a macro. 1. is a failsafe from before I had the safe flight option as a toggle, and 2. is leftover from before I had in-combat forms. As far as 3 goes, the name of the actual frame that handles Smart Mounting is the LivestockComboFrame. Clicking the SmartButton merely reroutes the click to LivestockComboFrame (as you can see if you peek inside the .xml)

Druids can directly shift from non-vehicular mounts into forms. Currently, if (for example) I am [nocombat, flyable] on a ground mount, pressing the smart button will dismount me, then shift me to flight form on the next press.
This has to do with the fact that going to flight form involves a spell and dismounting is done via a hidden /dismount command. It's possible to adjust this, but the way it's set up now, it works consistently in and out of combat because you couldn't shift into flight form into combat. You'd end up with errors instead of dismounting unless I reworked the entire secure map.

Long story short: It's possible, but I'd have to get my hands dirty, and two quick taps of the button accomplish the same result.

Hmm, does the game itself determine whether or not it has to issue a dismount depending on the autoDismount CVar? Or ... is that just the macro parser that puts a hidden /dismount in there if that CVar is set and it doesn't really apply to other methods of casting spells not through the macro interface? It does seem like a piddling thing, but I've gotten really used to jumping on a mount and shifting directly into flight form in mid-jump. I suppose I could just open up the code instead of asking, but this is much more fun .

Sneaky. GetMouseFocus():GetName() fails again! (Well, not technically; but, it's a funny thing to say.)

Re: Re: Re: some stuff

My code is controlling the behavior. For any class, if you're mounted, hitting the Smart Mount will dismount you. If you're not mounted, then you're either in combat or not. Smart Mounting does different things depending on if you are in combat or not -- if you're not, it checks to see if you're in a flyable area, and if you're a druid, it branches a couple more times to see if it should be mounting or going into bird form.

I'd have to rework the logic branching to intercept the situation where you're a druid, mounted, out of combat, have Flight Form behavior enabled, AND know a flight form spell -- and make this specific case highest priority in the branch so the logic knows NOT to dismount but instead cast flight form. It might be trickier than I think, but it might also be easier than I think. When I get time and am feeling well enough for it, I will see about this one -- because my main is a druid and I'd like to see this happen
Sneaky. GetMouseFocus():GetName() fails again! (Well, not technically; but, it's a funny thing to say.)
Technically, nah - Livestock activates Smart Mounting by clicking a button (because when I was coding the mod, I didn't realize I could execute code directly without attaching it to a frame). That button is invisible and serves only to run the logic. When I made the clickable screen buttons, I made one for Smart Mounting, but all it does is route its click to the invisible button. So the name of the button that you're clicking on (LivestockSmartButton) is not the same as the one that's doing the work (LivestockComboButton).

Probably not the best setup, but then again, it works -- and if I tried to rewrite it to be clean, I'd likely end up breaking something
