shNameplates  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r9.2
by: shUI [More]

shNameplates
A light-weight and beautiful nameplate addon that works right out of the box!

Why use this addon instead of some of the other famous nameplates? Simple: elegance, ease of use, and efficiency. Other addons similar to shNameplates are extremely "busy" or they are too plain. In some cases, they are highly inefficient when it comes to coding.
  • Unit Name
  • Raid Icon
  • Unit Level (using blizzard code to add difficulty coloring)
  • PvE coloring (blizzard based) and PvP coloring (class colored based)
  • Aggro and threat color (with glow overlay)
  • Castbar, Cast Time, and Spell Icon
  • Health Text Display (using color gradient for percentage)
  • Auto toggle on and off when in or out of combat (user set via config.lua)
  • Lots of config attributes that handle nameplate behavior, colors, fonts, and positioning (user set via config.lua)
  • Configuration that allows repositioning of the spell and raid icons (user set via config.lua)
  • Configuration option for TANKMODE (green coloring on aggro) and namecoloring (colors pvp enemy names with their class color) (user set via config.lua - PLEASE see changelog for more details)
  • Target cast spell names (for both channeled and cast)
  • Mouse over highlighting
  • Cool new fade in effects when nameplates appear
  • Target Unit POWER bar under health frame. SET TO ONLY IN PVP (b/c who cares about mob power at this point in the game)
  • COMBO points for feral and rogues...AND addition of showing Chi, burning embers, soul shards, holy power, burning embers, etc. (SELF buffs ony)
  • Now works with Icicle and/or Plate Buffs

NOTE: I want to thank the following authors: Caelian, Tekkub, Luzz, and Rothar. Especially Caelian, b/c I have based this addon to his famous addon caelNameplates

1st ... nice addon... my favorite... light, imba looking... sooo coool...

but.. i got a question...

Is it possible somehow to implement some more advanced threat features like:

if DPS:

- to not to get that ugly red border.. instead a green dot then yellow dot as a warning and then red dot as a notification you overaggroed somewhere above name or next to bar or even below bar?

if TANK:

oposite of DPS? green if safe tanking, yellow as a warning of some dps that might overaggro and red of lost aggro?

That would be so awesome!... rest is just perfect imo.

Anyhow.. keep up good work!

Hey they did remove it, but you can definitely have them fixed by what you are doing....Also, at the top of the lua file there are different options to fix those via the setcvars.

Off-topic: Did they take away the ability to choose between overlapping and no overlapping nameplates? Or am I just blind.

Thanks for the compliments bud! I have been debating how complex I want the options to be, but I think I can cater to a bigger user base if I allow more detailed options. Keep looking back here for future updates and I will most likely be adding some if NOT all of the requests you stated

Excellent! To be quite honest, I have been working on a entire UI compilation. I'm going to wait until after cata comes out tho. I hope you like the nameplates and keep your eyes open for future addon releases

If it's too much and against your "keeping it simple" then I understand completely.
@creepy_inc: I understand where you are coming from and happy that you were looking to join this addon instead of docs, but as I have always said...keep it simple. I like to use mostly blizzard code and to "hack" that to filter out certain mobs would be against my philosophy. As Skylinee said, if that is what you mainly want, then I would stick with Docs...however, if you can get over that one thing, use my addon

Stick with Docs for this, shNameplates is using blizzard's code i guess, so hacking this functionality into this addon would bloat it up.

Ya I'm going to add an option to allow capitalization vs lower case names. Sky, if you don't want it to be lower cased just change the following code:

Code:
line: 159: --> removing the string.lower method call

self.name:SetText(lower(newName))

to

self.name:SetText(newName)
i like this a lot, just the way it is. Never used nameplates before i installed your mod, thought the default one was just to ugly. This ROCKS...

** i especially like the lower case names (again, a personal preference)
Awesome I am glad you like them, I HATE most blizzard UI artwork

As with your shClock and shPerformance mods, I am a devoted fan. Your nameplates are wonderful too, probably the best I've seen in terms of a nameplate mod that doesn't have every single aspect customizable.

Anyway, you said you based your nameplates off caelNameplates, which I had been previously using. One of the reasons I used that particular mod was because I really really liked the ability to show the nameplates in combat and hide them out-of-combat without any user interaction. I ported his code over for the time being, but was wondering if you would consider adding this feature, perhaps with a toggle for those who do not want it.

For the record, this is the bit of code (sans toggle) that I am referring to:

Code:
shNameplates.eventFrame:RegisterEvent("ADDON_LOADED")
function shNameplates.eventFrame:ADDON_LOADED(event, addon)
if addon and addon:lower() == "shnameplates" then
			self:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED")
			self.PLAYER_REGEN_ENABLED = function()
				SetCVar("nameplateShowEnemies", 0)
			end

			self:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED")
			self.PLAYER_REGEN_DISABLED = function()
				SetCVar("nameplateShowEnemies", 1)
			end
	end
end
Thanks for an awesome mod, and thanks for considering my suggestion!
@shaggy7: I saw that code and didn't think many people would use it. It is an easy fix. I am thinking about having a config file setting to allow the automatic turning on and off. Some people might love it and some people might not. Look for it in the next update.

i love it!

was just wondering whether there was in-game configuration ^.^
@iamslay: I do not have an ingame config for this addon. I did however made a completely separate config file to allow easy changes to be made by editing the config.lua file. This addon is really simple and I think adding an ingame config will go against my motto of keeping things simple. If you need any help with the config.lua file let me know, but it's pretty straightforward! Thanks again bud.

please dont change this

Obviously there are many nameplate mods that function like this. But everytime I get one i like, its changed completely. Which is obviously not an issue, its totally up to the addon author to make the mod the way he wants.

but this one is pretty much exactly how id want my name plate to be.
@kxuhx: Thanks for the compliment and I'm glad you are enjoying it!
