Torta

Version: 0.2.32
by: Quezacolt [More]

After a couple weeks of being wtfpwnt by 3.0, Checklist has been resurrected with a new name: Torta.

This version is a preview of what Torta will be like. Included are most of the old Checklist features, and one new thing: Drag and drop reordering of lists and tasks. Try it out!

Wait, what? Does this thing spit turtles out or something?
Torta is an addon intended to help keep track of the various thingamajigs you have to routinely do. These can be dailies, shopping lists, gear wishlists, achievement stuff - basically anything you usually write down on paper and cross out as you go. Torta makes your life a bit easier (and saves you paper). Coming soon is a notebook feature which will act as a... I don't think it needs further explanation

Beta? Why not wait for release THEN put it up here?
I'm posting this mainly for feedback on the overall UI style. Many bits are still unfinished, but it's very usable at this stage. It's better if I get a "THIS DOESN'T WORK!!!11!!!elevendyone!!" at this early stage than if I get it when things get too big to easily change.

Other things coming soon include:

  • Torta Notebook (formerly Checklist Notes)

Oddities:
  • The shortcut for saving task text in the task editor is shift-ESC due to how multiline editboxes in WoW do not give notification when the enter button is pressed.

The slash command to bring up the window is /torta.

Also, betas will be pushed out less frequently now. The next one will be released when major things have been added. It's a good thing, trust me.

I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback!

PS: Development is being put on hold until I hit 80. Please bear with me

Something up with the sudden stop of updates? You've missed two of Blizzard's patches so far . . .

EDIT: Some more in the options panel department for configuring Torta might be nice. One thing I can think of right offhandedly is disabling the animated window effects. They're very nice looking but I can think of instances where that sorta thing has caused my client to get unstable.

Other than that, I'd love to see this do things like attach notes to players and items similar to NotesUNeed. Not sure if that's a direction you're planning on heading, but I can hope, can't I?

Anyhow, nicely done. I shall be awaiting more updates.
I'll go add effects disabling options right away. Should be simple enough. For the second one, I may add that into the upcoming Notebook module. It sounds really interesting

Thanks for you feedback - I *really* appreciate it!

It's being worked on and will be in the next version. Hopefully it'll be out before the year ends.

Oh, and Merry Christmas everyone!

Edit: Well, it didn't manage to get out before the year ended.

I'm planning to have two more betas, then an actual release version.

For the first, the Timers and Alerts feature will be added, which offers... timers and alerts for tasks. The LDB plugin makes its first appearance to everybody here, too.

The second one will have Notebook. One week (or maybe one month, to be safe), it'll be officially released. Yay!

Time-triggered alerts (whether by date or time since login or time since your PC booted up or whatever kind of time trigger I can think of ) is something I myself want. It's holiday season now, so I can finally get around to getting to the tricky bits of Torta.

As for integration into Windows, it cannot be done as the addon environment is completely sandboxed. Addons can't touch or even see what's going on in Windows.

thought id put my requests post here aswell as on ticket system on wowace, case u dont use it.

What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?
Would like some "calander" addition, so that i can set a date to notify me ingame(Some grafic notification on screen that stays there till you dismiss it), perhaps round minimap or something on a task that is set for a date. for example Northrend alchemy research, or a transmute. kinda like "you got email" feature. cant think of anything else id want atm. also perhaps an urgency level to set. say max urgency it blinks on screen, or sends a message throu raid warning, and on lowest its just added to the mimimap icon (u have 3 new tasks) or a diff grafic type, could be like when u put a ticket up to a gm, little note that sticks up topright of screen. btw i tried using the ingame calander and it doesnt seem to notify me at all. i would use torta for setting up all my plans in this case so id never miss a date, granted that im ingame ofc. if it would be possible to integrate into a small app for windows to share these tasks, and notify you outside of the game would be even more awsome. never miss a planned raid or event again!.

hope u will consider this. cheers.

A keybind option to open the window and LDB support will come soon.

Update: LDB's done, but a few subtle bugs have been discovered. It needs to get fixed before I upload as these bugs can cause data loss. Which isn't nice, really.

The bug involves creating a new task above a task that you are currently editing.

To see this bug, create a five-item list. Set the text of task 5 to something (anything will do). Press Shift-ESC to save it. While leaving the task edit dialog open, right-click a task above task five. In the dropdown menu, select "Create a new task below this one". Then, in the (still open) task edit dialog, change the text and hit Shift-ESC. Remember, task 5 has moved down the list to the sixth spot, so the new text should be sent to task 6. However, the task that changes is still task 5.

I bet that didn't make sense to quite a few people

Heya

I haven't tried the updated version yet but one thing I would like is some other way to open it then typing slash command - a minimap button or broker support maybe.

Is torta in usable form now, or not yet?

Thanks!
It's very much in a usable state. I try my best to make sure that everything that reaches this page will not asplode in your face, throw poo in your other addons, and make you scream.

Hey,

I used to be a checklister, with heaps of alts I swap items and level all the professions so its very important addon for my playtime. Currently I'm waiting for this addon since checlist2 just doesn't work, and kills a lot of other addons as well.

Is torta in usable form now, or not yet?

Thanks!

Excellent, I hate nitpicking but I have done enough AddOn support with users in my guild and also around my server. So many of them have gotten into this mentality of "Its Ace thus its a great AddOn", when really its not the framework that makes a good AddOn but the author using the framework and coding the AddOn.

You don't even have to mention LibStub. LibStub is meant to be "invisible" to the user. Just simply mention that you are going to be using a LDB Launcher/Data Feed for Torta which allows Torta to be accessible by a wide variety of LDB Displays, including Titan Panel. That is all the end user/casual AddOn hacker really needs to know. Those who would need to know more can look up LibDataBroker on this site or others.
