VolumeControl

Version: Beta 5
by: jaliborc [More]

This is a simple and lightweight mod that creates a DataBroker launcher which allows you to set the game volume easily.

Included Addons

  • VolumeControl: the main addon. Includes the LDB launcher
  • VolumeControl Config: a load on demand addon that contains everything you don't need at startup

How to use
  • Left Click to set the volume
  • Right Click to toggle volume on/off

Beta 5
  • Removed the icon highlights (now I think that displays should handle it...)
  • Updated for 3.1

Beta 4
  • Now the slider shows close to the icon
  • Now the icon highlights while the slider is shown
  • Fixed a bug causing the volume icon to not update properly at startup
  • Any source besides VolumeControl that changes the master volume (like the "Sound Options" panel) will update the icon and the slider.

Beta 3
  • VolumeControl now includes a new addon: VolumeControl Config. This load on demand addon contains most of VolumeControl code, while VolumeControl only contains waht its needed at startup. In other words: now VolumeControl is 2.3kb of size!
  • Changing the volume trough VolumeControl now also updates the SoundOptions panel
  • The volume slider is now fully animated! (with a bit help from the lib Efémero-1.0)
  • Now saves the real volume when the user logouts muted

Beta 2
  • Added icons

Beta 1
  • Initial Release

Thanks for this

Hiya,

Just wanted to make a post to say thank you for this LDM module. I posted a few weeks ago on the wowace site requesting a volume control thing (under username Asylum). This looks like it could maybe do the basics of what I was looking for.

This is what I posted over on the wowace site:
"I was thinking a little further into this afterwards with a friend who is also looking for a volume control. Basically the only reasons I adjust in game sound settings is when I am using TS/Vent for raids/chatting with others. Normally the in game sound can be too loud to hear whats happening over the voice comms so perhaps, if possible a way of setting up a few different profiles for volume settings might be easier? (a gui config window for defining the profile name and the volume setting for that profile and then mouse over the broker menu to select one of the profiles that you define?)"

(since requesting this I have finally got my system setup so that wow sound comes out of my speakers and TS/vent sound comes out of my headset but even still it would be handy to have..)

Actually, it was when I read that tread that I decided to make this addon (yesterday). I already had remembered to do this, but I thought this already existed.
About the profiles, I don't know, because I probably would not use it. But this is just an addon I made in half an hour , so, I may change my mind.

EDIT: You only want to change the "master" game sound, or also the music, ambience and sound effects?

I have not had chance to try it in game yet btw, will do so in the next hour or so once I am patched up (eu here).

Personally I would like sliders for music, ambience and sfx as I do tweak them from time to time too but perhaps a 'basic' (as it is now) and 'advanced' option setting could be made (shange modes via right clicking the block maybe?)

Oh, would be nice perhaps if there was a percentage level for the volume on the block text maybe?

Will report back more when I have had chance t try it in game later on

I don't like how FuBar works. So, there's absolutely no chance that I will do a FuBar version. I advice you to use Broker2Fubar, as Zergreth said. It should work with any DataBroker launcher you want to use on FuBar.

I would love to add the profiles feature, because I'm going to make VolumeControl configuration load on demand and, so, the performance won't be affected. My only problem is not how to implement it, is which config interface would be intuitive for the average user (I don't want the shift-click neither an option advanced/basic).

I've installed B2F and Volume Control.

The problem is that I have a few addons showing in B2F... but *not* Volume Control.
Am I yet again missing something ?

I tried Broker2Fubar and it's also happening to me. I've looked into it's code and I found the reason of the bug. I will report it to B2F authors and it should be fixed soon.

EDIT: Reported, not up to me now

Great job. The module seems to work great.

Request:
It'd be wonderful to have an option to mute the music, independently of the overall sound. When I start a raid, I like to turn off in-game music, as it's distracting when in voice chat.

One thing I've come across with b3: When I first login to my character (or reload the UI), the icon for Volume Control looks like the muted icon (no sound lines next to the speaker). The sound is there, but the icon is wrong. If I then go in and adjust any settings in Volume Control, the icon resets to what it should be.

It's a visual thing, but I though I'd mention it.

Visual or not, a bug is a bug. I fixed it in the development version

thanks for the continued work on this little mod.. still using is and other than the small volume display glitch on the LDB mentioned below I can say its great

you mentioned in the 'todo' that you are after better 'high light' textures. Where are these textures for and so on, I have just recently reinstalled PS here and finally worked out the tga format so perhaps I could help maybe.. (no guarantees ofc but I like to be able to show my thanks in some way)

Any help would be great! To find the textures, go to:

Code:
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns >VolumeControl > Textures
In this directory, you will find 2 folders: "Normal" and "Hightlight". The first one contains... well, it contains the normal textures! The second one contains their "hight light" version. All of them may be useful, but you may want to start with the normal ones and change them.

Thank you again!

I already decided how to implement the profiles. But, to do it as I intend, I need to finish my library Sushi-1.0 first. It may take a while... be patient.

P.S: Any luck with the textures, Hack?
