Satrina Buff Frames 3  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.1.25
by: Satrina, father0fnine

SBF has a maintainer!
I have to say, I am amazed by the number of people who just kept plugging along. It makes me feel bad that I do not have the time to keep working on this myself - you guys are all awesome! The good news is that a new maintainer has been found. Meet father0fnine, who is taking over SBF. I'm sure you'll all show him as much love as you showed me all these years

debuff in grp 1?

I like your buff mod so far, but I'm having a bit of a problem getting debuffs to show in grp1.. I've gone into the settings and selected to show buffs and debuffs, and disabled grp 2 alltogether. when I run outside of shat and start hitting the spiders or moths, none of the debuffs show up in grp1. However, if I enable grp2 it shows all the debuffs, but none of the buffs(even though I have both options selected. I've tried setting the options then reloading UI, but it doesnt change anything

Ah, just a little mixup in the options addon. Fixed for next release. In the meantime, click it twice.

Font Outline Option Won't stay checked

Noticing something strange about the outline fonts option for the various buff windows... it won't stay selected after moving away from the window. The setting seems to remain but the checkmark just goes away. It's not a biggie but it's kinda confusing when going back to check settings. I'm also unsure about how I'd remove this option later since the check box is already unchecked. Hope this makes sense but if not, just let me know and I'll try to be more specific after a bit more caffeine. hehe

Global tab, Bar update rate slider. It doesn't work quite right in the current release, though.

I may simply remove it next release.

Timer Bars

One thing I noticed with the timer bars is for short duration, the bar growth becomes jumpy. As an example I use the timer bars to display my Light's Grace buff on my paladin so that I know when I need to cast another Holy Light to maintain the buff. This buff only lasts for 15 secs. Is there a way that the bar decay can be made smoother?

So that's what the minimum buff time setting is for! I'll change it to "All Buffs". :P

Regarding the flashing, later on on another character I noticed that the flashing was almost normal again, although it was flashing at a sort of variable speed... fade out, fade in, fade-blink blink blink blink-fade in, fade out, etc. Not sure what's causing that...

Yeah, I figured a stack trace wouldn't really help with that error. My complaint was mainly about the fact that I had to type out the error instead of being able to copy/paste it. Plus, I didn't even notice the error right away, as it printed into the first chat frame, and I'm normally viewing another tab. I wouldn't worry too much about interrupting users... Lua error display is disabled by default now, and I'd guess that probably the vast majority of users for whom error display is enabled have it enabled by an addon like BugSack or Swatter, and won't be interrupted by errors anyway. Maybe do some checks and do the "print to chat frame" thing only if no non-default error handler is present?

schmittmj: SBF should be able to do exactly what you want. There's a full description of how filtering works here: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...ffFrames2.html (that description is also in the SBF options if you click the Filter Help button on the Filters tab)

Jezzabel & Phanx #1: The error on 657 is yet another thing with cyCircled. I'll get that fixed asap.

Phanx #2: The frame's minimum buff time is set to more than 30 seconds. Seals are a 30 second duration, and the default minimum buff time is 10 minutes. If you want Seals to flash you need to set their frame's minimum buff time All Buffs. (Due to confusion lately about this I've already added tooltips and the default is All Buffs for new installations, for the next release)

Phanx #3: Odd, I have not changed any of the expiry flash code since 2.7 or so. I'll look into it.

The pcall stuff is an experiment, mostly to do with not interrupting the user if something in one of the update paths gets an error (which does not necessarily mean the addon grinds to a halt). BugSack is a nice tool that I use myself, and it's useful for something like StatusWindow where the debug stack shows me where the error really happened. 19/20 in SBF the line where the error ocurred is the only important one and the callstack is irrelevant.

Hello there, I've been looking for a new buff mod for a little while now and yours looked interesting. Something with just the icons and time remaining is nice and compact. Now I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I thought that your addon may be the one to make it so. What I am looking for is the ability to filter buffs/debuffs into a multitude of bars. Something like ...

Bar 1 (generic stat buffs): AI/AB, GotW, PW:F
Bar 2 (paladin buffs): BoW, BoK, BoS
Bar 3 (consumables): Food buff, flask/elixirs, temp item buffs
Bar 4 (other buffs): trinket activated stuff, other random things
Bar 5 (debuffs):

Using your addon, I could only find the ability to filter buffs into 2 bars, is more possible, or is advanced filtering like that not available through the tools blizzard has provided you.

Thanks.

AddonLoader doesn't seem to be erroring out the options menu anymore, hurrah!

A couple new issues:

1. If I log in (or reload the UI) as a ghost, I see empty borders for every possible icon in any buff frame with an acrive aura. Generally this is the debuff frame, because the debuff Ghost is active, but if I have a flask on, the buff frame is also affected.

This message appears in the chat frame:
SBF: Error in Interface\AddOns\SatrinaBuffFrame\SatrinaBuffFrame.lua (line 657) - attempt to index field 'db' (a nil value)

Screenshot:
http://i31.tinypic.com/2nu3gjo.png

On a related note, why are you bypassing normal error handlers and sticking this in the chat frame? I normally use BugSack so I can easily copy and paste errors for reporting...

2. Buffs and debuffs with a total duration of less than my expiry warning time never show as expiring. For example, my paladin's Seals last for 30 seconds, and I have my expiry time set to 60 seconds with white expiring timer text and a flashing icon, so when I cast a Seal, the buff icon should immediately be flashing and have its timer text in white instead of gold. However, it doesn't flash, and has gold text. Buffs with a longer duration correctly turn their timer text white and flash when they reach less than 60 seconds remaining.

3. The expiring buff flash rate is hyperactively fast in the latest update. I'm not sure if this was an intended change or not, but I vastly prefer the old slower fading flash rather than this new hyper blink!

After some days using the addon without any problems, today each I started to get this error :
23:46:28 SBF: Error in ...terface\AddOns\SatrinaBuffFrame\SatrinaBuffFrame.lua (line 653) - attempt to index field 'db' (a nil value)

How it happens each time :
- I logg a toon with a profile and all set, and all is fine
- I log off and check a toon without any use of buffs, aka a mule bank, there is no problem
- I relog on my main toon and then the message pop up, showing me 2 emptys columns
- I need each time to quit the game and all is fine after that until I need to check a toon with a low level and no profil for that.

Hope it can help to find if I do something wrong or not )

Edit : this is happening with the version 2.8 Beta 12 - sorry will try tomorrow with the new version and post here

Hey Satrina and thanks for responding so quickly... as usual. The debuff started at 30 seconds and counted down to 0 with no flashes. Does the debuff have to start like after 30 mins expiry or something to flash when it counts down? If it helps, I got the debuff flying over the horde camp in Zangarmarsh to check this (I'm Alliance for some wacky reason lol).

Edit: Read your comment again and think I understand it now... new meds may be bad I say! I"ll go back and check the min durations.

I tried setting debuffs and weapons buffs up in their own frames to flash when close to expiry but it doesn't seem to work for me. I tested the weapon buffs and switched weapons out several times and that works great now. I was also wondering about the sending messages to sct option... is that just for Grayhoof's SCT or is that a generic term for any scrolling combat text mod?

Edit: the weapon enchant flashed and played the sound properly so it appears to only be an issue with debuffs. Oh and debuffs were on the 3rd frame with 2 rows of 5 each.

That's a very common request, and the answer is not yet. That will come as a separate addon that uses SBF to display other units' buffs/debuffs.
