Leatrix Silence allows you to silence a variety of game sounds.
Silence traditional racial combat sounds
Silence the traditional character combat sounds.
Silence vocal combat sounds (added in Legion)
Silence the new combat vocal sounds added in Legion (such as this and this).
Silence NPC sounds
Silence various NPCs such as Headless Horseman, Rhonin, etc.
Silence various other sounds
Silence spell fizzle sounds, chat button clicks, game menu open and close, etc.
In addition, a complete ready-to-play sound listing is included in the download which allows you to play any sound in World of Warcraft as well as research the files necessary to silence your own choice of sounds.
To silence any of the sounds in the list above, browse the downloaded Zip file and extract/copy the Sound folder to your World of Warcraft folder (NOT your addons folder). If you are asked whether files should be replaced, choose Yes.
For example, if you want to silence the new combat vocal sounds added in Legion, open the 'Combat' folder, then open the 'Vocal combat sounds (added in Legion)' folder and extract/copy the 'Sound' folder to your World of Warcraft folder.
You must completely restart your World of Warcraft game client for the changes to take effect. Reloading your UI is not enough as the sounds are only loaded when the game client starts up.
The sound listing
The sound listing lists every sound file in World of Warcraft (that's around 100,000 sounds!). Just open the file with a text editor (such as Notepad), copy any line to the clipboard (CTRL/C) then paste it into a Wow chat window (CTRL/V) to hear the sound. The sound listing will be updated with each major content patch.
How to silence your own choice of sounds
If you want to silence sounds not included in the download, open the sound listing with a text editor and find the sound that you want to silence. When you have found it, create the same folder structure in your Wow folder then copy and rename Sample.ogg to match the filename shown in the listing.
For example, let's say you are trying to silence the ocean sound. Searching the sound listing for 'ocean' highlights this line:
Enter that command into the game to hear the sound. If you still want to silence it, create a folder in your Wow folder called Sound. Inside that, create a folder called Ambience. Inside that, create a folder called Water. Copy Sample.ogg to the Water folder and rename it to OceanA.ogg. Restart your game client and enter the command from the sound listing above once again to test. You should hear nothing. When creating folders, if any of them already exist, just open the existing folder instead.
When an update is released, read the change log (tab at the top of this page) to see what's new. If any sounds have changed, it will be noted in the change log.
