- changed VARIABLES_LOADED to ADDON_LOADED (thank you very much bahuur!)

Version 2.2
====================
- fixed a bug where the savedvariables were overwritten with the defaults (or at least i hope so)
- changed the toc to interface 3.3

Version 2.1

- changed the code to use spellIDs instead of spellnames

And after you've unzipped the the addon you need to rename the folder from "ballagarba-prDrainSoulTimer-b025975" (or something like that) to just "prDrainSoulTimer".
tried that, it won't show up as an addon for me

Hmm, are you sure? Just downloaded it myself and it works fine. Make sure you're not only looking under "p" when you're searching the addon list. Because i've color coded the "pr" in the name so it should be further down the list. And the folder name has to be the same as the .toc file name.

And there's no in-game config either. Only a couple of variables in the lua file.

Any way to fix this?
It looks like a deprecated event is being used to trigger the variable check on addon load. It is sometimes triggering before the variables are actually loaded and is re-initializing the settings to the defaults.

Change "VARIABLES_LOADED" to "ADDON_LOADED" in DrainSoulTimer.xml. My settings have been consistently saved between sessions after this fix.

hey since a lot of us use the curse client, would you be able to update the addon on curse.com too? I just discovered on wowinterface here that there was a new version all this time! Curse has version 2.1 and states the addon hasnt been updated for 11 months lol.

Open the file "DrainSoulTimer.xml" and replace the word "this" with "self". Haven't tested it yet but I guess that should do it. I'll update it soon

Yes, it seems they have disabled the ability to play .wav sound files. I have to convert them to mp3 or ogg.
Also PlaySoundFile() is now linked to the ingame sound effects cvar, so you won't hear anything if you disabled ingame sounds.
Kinda sucks for me since I had the mastervolume up to 100% and sound effects at 0% to avoid all that noise spam in combats :/

I'll release an update as soon as I'm back at home

For some reason WoW can't seem to find the new version of DrainSoulTimer on my addons folder. I've tried renaming the folder to only DrainSoulTimer, keeping it as it was (DrainSoulTimer_2.4), erasing all old DrainSoulTimer related stuff from my WTF folders from all chars, anything, it just don' show up on my login screen. Am I doing anything idiotic and not realizing?

Edit:

Ok, I compared this w/ the last addon version, all files look like this on this one
DrainSoulTimer/changelog.txt
DrainSoulTimer/DrainSoultimer....
DrainSoulTimer/DrainSoultimer.xml etc etc

I erased all the

"DrainSoulTimer/" from the filenames and created a Sound folder as well (just like in the older versions)

Now it's working. Sometimes it unchecks the preferences, but I'd say I can live with it.

The new version works perfect only the sound is a little bit low compared to the other WoW sounds. Is there a possibility to increase the volume?

No, sorry. I wish I could do that, but with 4.0 the addon sounds are tied to the sound effects slider in the sound options.
So, it will always be as loud as the ingame noise

yoyo

so you reckon just with the sounds enabled but nothing else in rest ( like all that annoying combat sounds etc etc ) the addon wont make a sound when it ticks ? cause looking for the text kinda sucks

thanks for the great work

o/

ps: with all those annoying ingame sounds activated ( absolutely all of them ) i hear no tick sounds whatsoever

Addon File Architecture Bugged

The DrainSoulTimer addon works, but the files need to be renamed (as of the current date, addon last updated 10/15/10). This is easy to do:

Rename the master folder from DrainSoulTimer_2 to DrainSoulTimer
Go into the master folder and make a subfolder called Sounds.
Change DrainSoulTimer\Sounds\tick.ogg to tick.ogg and place it in the Sounds subfolder.
Change DrainSoulTimer\Sounds\quaddamage.ogg to quaddamage.ogg and place it in the Sounds subfolder.
Delete the DrainSoulTimer\ from the names of all the remaining files leaving them as changelog.txt, DrainSoulTimer.lua, DrainSoulTimer.toc, DrainSoulTimer.xml, DrainSoulTimerOptions.xml, and localization.lua
