Tidy Threat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.8
by: danltiger [More]

Tidy Threat is a simple threat monitor which is simple enough for a novice to understand, yet powerful enough for a Tank.

Simple explanation:
While in combat, the status bar grows upward indicating how "hot" the enemy thinks you are. Causing damage or casting heals will raise that level.

If you reach the mark on the thermometer, the enemy will turn and start hitting YOU. As you continue to attack, the bar can continue to rise into the RED area, indicating the amount of threat that you would need to lose in order to shed the attention of the bad guy.

If you're DPSing: Don't go into the RED!
If you're tanking: Stay in the RED!

More Complex Explanation:
The status bar shows your threat compared to the next-highest threat for the rest of your group. If you are the top threat holder, it will also show how much your threat exceeds the next highest. In other words, if you are tanking and the bar extends above the line, into the red, you've got solid aggro.

No mode changes are required for Tank vs DPS usage; The interface is universal. For additional data, players can enable the Detail Window, which will display real threat numbers.

Type '/ttt' into the chat window to bring up the configuration panel, or right-click the Tidy Threat frame.

An option to hide except when in combat and/or group/raid would be nice. An audio notification when about to pull aggro would be icing on the cake... these features are the only reason I use the bigger, bulkier Omen.

Oooooh, I always forget that it's not default.

I've 'caved' into the requests (kidding) and added a little detail window that will pop up and tell you who that highest (or second highest) person on the threat list is. It will also display the raw value difference between your threat and their own.

I've updated the download with that feature, but there's a bug that leaves the detail window shown while there's no other threats to compare. It doesn't seem to affect the usability, it's just annoying (to me). I'll have a fix for that, shortly.

Don't you have to turn on the Target of Target function in-game for that to appear? I don't *believe* this is default behavior, but it has been awhile since I played with the default Blizzard interface.

EDIT: Yes, you have to enable this option. Press ESC, choose "Interface," then in the options pane select "Combat" then "Target of Target" and check that. You can also tell it when to show you the target of target. So just for anyone who wants to utilize dan's suggestion.

The first feature is done, but hasn't made it to the current download. Soon!

The second one, I'm still playing around with. In lieu of a configuration page, I'll be using the PVP flag capture sounds for the warning. (It'll choose the Horde Flag Capture if you're Alliance, and vice-versa)

Now that you have auto-hide in, could you extend it to auto-hide while not in combat AND when you're not in a group (ie: during solo play)

Certainly, I can do that. However, having started a hunter, I can say that using the monitor with my pet is very very nice. So, what I'll probably do is link the pop-up to whenever there's more than one threat in the target's list, regardless of the party status. That should work for any pet-using class.

Finally got around to implementing it. Also, the detail window now displays rank. AND fixed a few amusing bugs.

I'm having some trouble gauging my threat when mirror image is active. Seems like it just sets my threat to zero, then restores it when the buff fades. I'd like to be able to tell where my threat will be before the buff actually fades.

Nice work though

Hmm... that doesn't sound so good!

I don't currently have a mage to test, but I'll see if I can grab a friend to work with me on this.

Edit: Apparently, I need to add 410065408 to the raw mage threat, in order to come up with the right number. Makes me wonder about other classes, and what kind of problems they may be encountering.

Re: Getting this error on my druid.

It seems like it's a problem with the saved variables. Trashing the WTF file usually clears that up (I hate doing that, since I have to reconfigure everything) which will revert to the original configuration.

Was it the newest version? Which options were you using?

I'll try to reproduce the problem, but if I can't figure that out, I'll put something in to check the variables for validity.

I haven't forgotten you guys! Been a little busy updating the other addons that I maintain. I have to rotate my attention each week, given limited development time.

Re: Getting this error on my druid.

It might be patch v3.1.3.. I wasn't getting those errors on my main, but when I logged into my hunter, I got the same error you did. Resetting my UI worked. I've also modified how "/ttt reset" works, which will flush the old variables; You can use the command even if an error occurs.

Ok, I should have something for you pretty soon; I copied a premade mage to the PTR... fun!
