Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Do not use comments to report bugs or request features. Such comments will be deleted. Use the links above to post a ticket instead!
Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

Not directly, no. You could modify Grid's code to add an always-on border, or you could fake it with an always-on status. If you set the Low Health Alert status threshold to 100%, it will always be active. Put it on the Frame Border indicator, set its color to dark gray, and set its priority to 1 (so that "real" statuses assigned to the border still show up normally).

Thank you. That is the definitive answer I was looking for. Not exactly what I wanted to here, but, that's life.

Oh. There is no "configuration mode" where you can show a bunch of dummy frames. The way Grid is written (using Blizzard's secure group header system) doesn't support this.

The old "Show Frame" option wouldn't have helped; it only let you toggle Grid on/off for different group types (solo, party, raid), which can be accomplished now by selecting the "None" layout for a particular group type.

If a single frame isn't enough for you to set up most things (and then adjust the position once you're actually in a raid), you could invite some friends or guildmates to a group while you're doing dailies or idling in town, or queue up for AV and hang out in the spawn cave.

Also, since you mentioned wanting to be able to "move the layouts", I just want to clarify that Grid's position is saved for the whole profile, not per layout. The layout you choose for a particular group type only affects how many unit frames are shown and in what order. If you want Grid to be in a different place on the screen for different group types, you will need to set up separate profiles, and switch between them as desired.

To create a new profile:
Grid > Profiles > Other > Type the desired profile name and press Enter

To copy the settings from the first profile to the new profile:
Grid > Profiles > Copy from > Select the first profile's name (probably Default)

To switch between profiles:
Grid > Profiles > Choose > Select the desired profile

There are also several plugins that can switch between profiles automatically under certain conditions. A list of layout-related plugins that may be of use to you can be found here:
http://www.wowace.com/addons/grid/pa...layout-plugins

Thank you, and I apologize if this may seem to be rude, but, how is this supposed to help me with my problem? I really want to be able to see the frames (other than the single one that shows up when you are not grouped) so I can position them before I get into a group or raid.

Yes, I have changed a few settings, but I still have "solo" set to a group so I can see Grid. Do I need to get a plug in so I may see my frames to position them? If so, which one, please. There are several that have to do with layouts, but they all seem to just add a specific layout style to Grid.

I just want to be able to see the layouts and position them before I have to use them.

I also apologize for the tone of my post. I am severely frustrated and feel as though there is some functionality here that I am just not seeing or am not aware of.

Your first two screenshots look correct. The third screenshot is from a very old version of Grid, before support was added for setting different layouts for different group types.

It looks like you've changed some settings from their default values. Make sure that the layout is not set to "None" for the type of group you're currently in. For instance, if you're not in a group, make sure that Frame > Solo Layout is not set to "None". You can always change it back later if you don't want to see Grid while you're solo.

Edit: I went ahead and updated the screenshots of the configuration menus, too.

Frames?

I have a bit of a problem. I'm new to Grid and I downloaded/installed Grid v1.30300.1290, and I have no option showing anywhere that will allow me to see and position my frames. Is this normal? Do I need a plug-in to give me that capability? I have uninstalled/reinstalled twice, and I realize this doesn't always fix problems but I figured it was worth a try.

Here a two screen shots to illustrate my problem.

For comparison, here is the preview picture from the main page

As you can see, there is no "Show Frame" option for me. There is also none in the GUI options. Yes, I read the Guide.

Sorry about the large post. I'm just trying to see if I messed something up somehow.

I'd recommend that you change that setting back to its default value of downloading only release versions, or at least only release and beta versions. Addon authors have to intentionally mark versions as release or beta, whereas every commit made to the addon's repository is available automatically as an alpha version.

If you want things to work the way they did before you updated, you have two options:

1. Update your plugins. Like I said, the majority of plugins were already updated, so if the plugins you're using are actively supported by their authors, this should solve the "problem". However, without knowing what plugins you use, I can't tell you with any certainty whether updates are available, so you'll actually have to find out yourself.

2. Download an older version of Grid (I'd suggest sticking with a stable release version), either from this page, or from Curse.com.

Edit: Also, to clarify, none of your settings were altered in any way. Once you get your plugins up to date, all of your settings are still there, and everything should work just as it did before.
Thank you, I finally could make it and I didn't loose any of my settings (I downloaded Grid from this page and overwrote the alfa version).

If you want to use alpha versions, you can, but you should expect that they will not always work. Generally, you should only post on WoWI about files that are actually released on WoWI.

That said, there were no changes in r1293 that should affect plugins. If the problem also occurs with the latest release version (1.30300.1290, available on this page) then it is most likely not actually a problem at all, but rather the expected result of using outdated plugins. As per the change log for this release:

The related changes in Grid were made in alpha versions back in December; plugin authors whose plugins weren't already compatible had over four months to make the very minor changes required.

The majority of plugins were updated well in advance of this release. If you've double-checked and there is actually no update available for a plugin, then you will need to either wait for its author to update it, or find a replacement plugin whose author actively maintains it.

Hi there,

I just updated Grid to version r1293 and I am having some problems with it. I can't use any of the pluggins I was using before (such as Icon bars), it seems that all the indicators except the default ones are broken...

Any help?

I don't use any of those plugins, so you'd need to either try them out and see what options they have, or ask their authors whether (and if so, how) they can do what you want.

Hmm. I'm aware of those. Tried 'GridAutoFrameSize', but wasn't sure how it differentiated from standard Grid behavior. Didn't seem to do anything for me.

Guessing 'GridCustomLayouts' is the one to use, but man that looks overly complex. Other than that, I don't see a solution.

If you want to change settings other than the actual layout setting, you'd need to set up different profiles, and either manually switch between them, or install a plugin to automatically switch between layouts for different group sizes.

You'll find a list of up-to-date layout-related plugins for Grid here:
