Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 add-on written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one place.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I am back in the game since 28/12/2020.

If you are upgrading from a version below 9.0.003, YOU MUST CLEAR YOUR SAVED VARIABLES !!

This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

About the add-on:

The add-on has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It provides you information about your alts (bags, mails, AH, etc...) without having to reconnect them all the time.

About the author:

I was born in '76 (you do the math) and I work as a Project Manager + Software Architect + Full Stack Web Dev (yup, multiple hats) in a large multinational, so my coding time is limited, and Work > Gaming.

I live in Belgium, and obviously play on EU only.

Assistance will be provided on a best effort basis, but in any case always be polite and respectful when asking for help, I am neither a teenager, nor a punching ball. I am a cool guy with people who are cool with me. Respect that rule and we'll be fine.

2020/12/28: Due to Teelo's actions, I have reverted his changes and resumed development based on my latest version of the code. Some of his new features are temporarily not available anymore, some are gone forever. The main Shadowlands features will be back though, just be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR 8.0 : As with every new expansion, many things have changed in the API, and it is REQUIRED to clear your Saved Variables for the addon.
This means cleaning the following files in \WTF\Account\<your_account>\SavedVariables : Altoholic.lua & All DataStore*.lua

There WILL be bugs if you use your old files without cleaning them first.
Some fixes to work around API changes are too time consuming, so cleaning is required. A meagre price to pay once per expansion.

One thing that has always bothered me about it is using the search function for battle pets it doesn't show battle pets in of my toons' inventory that have been put into cages from the pet collection tab. Is there any way to somehow fix this issue? The type I am referring to specifically is when you are looking at your pet journal and you right click a pet and select "Put in Cage". Then open your bags and you'll see it in your inventory, but if you open Altoholic and try to run a search for that pet it doesn't come up with anything. Is there a setting in Options or some other thing I can do in the game to make such searches actually work? Or is it something you could implement in a patch of the add-on? Thanks in advance for your attention to this.

I reset all the data by clicking on OPTIONS DATASTORE > Reset all data. I then started logging in my characters and repopulating the data. After doing the first realm I went back and checked to make sure it was working. I only showed 2 out of 6 characters listed on Account Summary, but if I go to characters tab and list characters they all show. Am I doing something wrong, I hate to relog all my characters and find out it didn't work. ****DISREGUARD POST******* I thought I had deleted all my WTF files. Guess I didn't. About the search tab, it's weird, but I won't invest time on it now. The whole tab is due for a rewrite when I'm done with the other fixes on the list (some more order hall stuff, then the characters tab, then the grids tab, then back on the search tab, hopefully in this order). @Barleduq: I think you should send me your saved variables files per mail, there must be something I have missed. For the artifact, unfortunately most of the information can only be read when you "see" the artifact (shift-click on it, or go at the forge). I find this to be a major annoyance, and I'll see how I can work around this as I make progress. Sadly, Blizzard's approach is often that "if the UI is not visible, the player does not need the information", so when you call a function to get information, you actually get no information. I do understand why they do it, but it's a major PITA.

Now, the lack of research is accurate, but the toon I'm on has 415/875 power at the moment. Am I doing something wrong, or is it those errors? Thanks! I opened altoholic, clicked back and forth across a few tabs without doing anything in any of them. Ended on the Summary tab, where I clicked the 'artifacts' button. At that point, as I moved the slider up and down, whenever it came across the name of the toon I'm on now, it repeated that line such that there was always 1 other name, and hten the rest of the lines visible were the name of the online toon.

A suggestion for overly long row names - add a tooltip with full name of the row to the name itself, when the name is longer than a certain length. Wrapping is one thing, but it isn't always the most readable thing.

Also, if you are going to work on grids in near future, an active list-reducing filter for things like currency or reputation would be greatly appreciated. Like the search in bags, but just reduce the list instead of darkening the unmatching rows.

Oh, also, I just had a weird search glitch. I'll explain it thorough, but not all of it is probably relevant.
1. I've wanted to check if I have spare bags to send around (usually I do), thus I entered " bag" as search term and scrolled through the list.
2. Now, something wasn't right. I was totally sure I have some Hexweave bags around. Thus I've scrolled down to the crafting recipe in the list and hovered over the item icon.
3. Lo! The item listed 3 bags on a certain character. But that character's bags wasn't in the list.
4. I've changed the search filter from "This account (this faction)", as it was set forever and never touched, to "This account (both factions)".
5. Behold, the much more comprehensive list of " bag"s appear! And much more diverse! It have found new bags on same characters that were originally in the list, it have found these 3 missing Hexweave bags, and so on.
6. Now, I change the filter back to the "This realm (this faction)", but the list stays comprehensive. Now, I'm wondering, is there a rational explanation to such a behavior?

It brings some support for artifact information in the summary pane, quite useful if you have multiple alts working on their weapon @AnrDaemon: the bug you reported is also fixed in this version, it was one of the possible messages caused by this bug. There was a drop down menu still using the old/tainted way of initializing drop downs.. I had overlooked it when updating them quite a long while ago :s

The addon en/disabling indication is inconsistent in default interface, and God know what ACP does or assumes on the data available to it. I always disable main addons (Altoholc itself, DataStore itself) and leave submodules enabled. They will not be loaded, if main addon is inactive.
