Intel  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.45
by: Tuhljin [More]

Wintergrasp is now supported! Give it a test and report any issues you find here.

Intel tracks the status of world PvP objectives such as Wintergrasp, Halaa, the Bone Wastes, towers, and other points of interest around Azeroth and Outland. This status, including details such as the time since the objective last changed hands and when a timed event is scheduled to occur (e.g., the Bone Wastes becoming capturable), can be seen on the world map using icons, a countdown/number-captured tracking frame, and tooltips.

Collected data is saved per realm for use in future sessions.

See the included readme.txt file for more information, including usage instructions.

Use with ZoneDefense

ZoneDefense (ZD) is a sister addon to Intel. It is available for download here. Neither is required for the other to operate, but they do complement each other in a number of ways:

  • When ZoneDefense looks for a place to ping on the world map, it checks with Intel to see if one of its icons would work best.
  • When ZoneDefense receives shared alarms while you are in an instance, it forwards them to Intel. This allows Intel to continue to update world objective information when it normally would be unable to do so. (ZD does not have to be set to display shared alarms to forward them to Intel; it need only be set to share them.)
  • When Intel outputs a "pseudo-alarm," such as when a Wyvern Camp is captured or lost (an event not reported by LocalDefense/WorldDefense and thus not normally output to the chat log), it can have ZoneDefense format the message in the manner of a LocalDefense alarm, as customized by the player.
  • When an "under attack" alarm is triggered for a Wintergrasp subzone, the ZoneDP system that ZoneDefense includes (a part of Zone Log) allows Intel to recognize the subzone and thus consider Wintergrasp to have been attacked.

The change log lists changes of particular note to users, not every change made.

v0.45
- Updated for WoW 4.0.1.
- Moved the INTEL button to the top left corner of the world map.

v0.44
- Updated for WoW 3.3: Additions to the world map (icons, pings, tooltips, INTEL button) should again be shown reliably and in the proper positions.

v0.43
- Updated for WoW 3.2.
- Wintergrasp is now supported, tracking time until the next battle, time since a battle began, which faction is in control of the zone, and when the last "under attack" defense alarm triggered for the zone. For best results, use with the ZoneDefense addon: This allows "under attack" alarms from subzones in Wintergrasp to be considered an attack on the zone and, as always, improves the look and functionality of Intel-generated alarms (e.g. "The Battle for Wintergrasp will begin in 5 minutes!").
- Last attack time for a location is now remembered between sessions.

v0.42
- Updated for WoW 3.1.
- Revamped Spirit Tower countdown timer code.

v0.41
- Updated icon data and included updated library to account for Eastern Plaguelands changes in WoW 3.0.

v0.40
- Updated for WoW 3.0.

v0.36
- When party/raid-member markers are near an Intel icon or frame on the world map, the Intel tooltip now takes
priority, resolving the issue where these markers could prevent an Intel tooltip from appearing when desired.
- When Intel tooltips are displayed, the names of units near the cursor are now added to a secondary tooltip,
making it easier to see who is near the location.
- The above tooltip-consolidating changes also apply to spirit healer locations and the player's corpse marker.

v0.35
- Contested towers in Eastern Plaguelands now properly show as contested and a pseudo-alarm is generated when
they become contested. (For easier identification at a glance, "contested tower" icons are used instead of the
standard "neutral tower" icons.)

v0.34
- Fixed an error that occurred when clicking a ZoneDefense-formatted Wyvern Camp hyperlink. For best results,
use ZoneDefense version 0.61 or later.

v0.33
- If the addon ZoneDefense (version 0.60 or later) is installed, Intel can now use it to format pseudo-alarms in
the manner of a LocalDefense alarm, as customized by the player through ZD.

v0.32
- Added an option to reset node data from previous sessions. (Intentionally excludes countdown timers.)
- Fixed an issue where pseudo-alarms sometimes reported that a node that was just captured was lost while in
Hellfire Peninsula or Eastern Plaguelands.
- Fixed an issue where nodes' "last change" time could improperly remain "Unknown" if data from a previous session
was in place before the change occurs.
- Fixed an issue where Halaa sometimes started the session with a Neutral icon when control is actually Unknown.

v0.31
- Fixed an issue where undesired or excessive pseudo-alarms (chat log messages) indicating changes to Wyvern Camps
were given when Halaa is captured while you are in Nagrand.
- Fixed an issue where Halaa's Wyvern Camps sometimes used the wrong icon after loading data from another session.
- Intel can now notify you via a pseudo-alarm when Halaa loses guards while you are in Nagrand in addition to when
it gains them.
- When a pseudo-alarm involving gaining or losing guards is issued, it will now give the number of guards gained
or lost when there is more than one.
- Resetting to the maximum number of guards after Halaa is captured should no longer generate a pseudo-alarm.
- Adjusted the size of the Spirit Towers tracker.
- Fixed an issue where the number of captured Spirit Towers could sometimes be off by one if you are in the
zone when the capture is made and the WorldDefense message lagged behind the in-zone states update.

v0.30
- Initial public release of preview version.

Excellent!
The spirit tower timer alone makes this an instant favorite.

Hellfire Issues

I see you already fixed the Halaa issues that I started to experience.

I've noticed that when in Hellfire, I'll get an alarm in LocalDefense stating that a tower was won by a faction. However, as soon as that is stated, Intel will tell me that the same faction just lost that node.

I can provide screenshots if you need it, and this is with v.30, I'll try your newest release to see if I'm still getting halaa errors.

Re: Hellfire Issues

I'll look into it. Has this happened every time a Hellfire Peninsula node is captured while you are in the zone? Have you noticed this happen in any other zones, like Eastern Plaguelands? My guess right now is that the WorldDefense message is sometimes being received just before WoW actually updates the point of interest information, making Intel think the node was taken (WorldDefense), lost (scan of map data), and then taken again (another scan).

The same error happens with the EPL towers.

Interestingly enough, it also repeated itself this time, showing the message that horde lost it twice after the local/world defense message.

Okay, thanks for the reports. WoW does a lot of these things in ways that you'd probably not expect, ways that often seem (or just plain are) redundant; I just have to find all these quirks and make Intel work around them. I should have it fixed in the next update.

Great work so far. I really appreciate this addon, and I have been suggesting to others to use it, especially in our halaa raids.

Known issues

I really like this addon and was using it with Cartographer with no problems. I changed over to Mapster and it doesn't seem to work, but also doesn't give any errors.

It doesn't give me the tooltips I saw before stating how long something was controlled, etc.

Has anyone used this successfully with Mapster?

Thanks!

I just downloaded Mapster and had no problems with it. Do you have the latest version of that addon and of Intel? Do you have any other map or tooltip addons? Perhaps you could try disabling all your addons except Intel and Mapster and see if that works.

Re: Re: Known issues

Yeah, it works no problems with Mapster. Somehow, I had Intel set to Hide -> All so it was user error.

Wintergrasp

I've been preoccupied by other things (both WoW-related *cough*Overachiever*cough* and otherwise) so Intel hasn't yet been updated to handle Wintergrasp. I'm looking for suggestions on the topic: What do you think Intel should do with Wintergrasp? I had something similar to the Spirit Tower timer in mind, plus we could watch for those NPC yells in Dalaran about the place becoming contested. Please let me know what you think, via a comment here, a ticket, or on Intel's Curse comments page. Thanks!

Re: Wintergrasp

With all the PVP quests I'd suggest some sort of filtering at least
(or is that a ZoneDefense problem )
Eg Venture bay is a bit of a pain with the number of messages - not sure but the most likely useful info would be a list of how many of each faction at each level (if i'm going to wish - i'll wish for the world)
Wintergrasp - the timer to start sounds good

Otherwise yes people use it and so keep up the great work and thanks

That'd be a ZoneDefense thing, and it's something I've got on the "to do" list when I've got time. Actually, the list says to add a separate spam handler for Blue Sky Logging Grounds and other areas involved in the Grizzly Hills PvP quests, so you could perhaps set those messages to only display once every minute or so while the rest show every 30 seconds, with an optional "do not show" option.

Re: Wintergrasp

In regards to Wintergrasp:

1) Like the towers
2) The shouts in Dalaran
3) When checking the NPC in Dalaran that tells you how long until it starts, update it (if possible)
4) When working with zonedefense, if it finds it in the world defense channel that Wintergrasp is under attack

edit -
5) Communication between other users of the addon via a hidden chat channel could also help to sync multiple users.

Re: Re: Wintergrasp

I recently went over the timer code and revamped some things, "dusting things off" you might say so I'm familiar with what's needed to get the Wintergrasp timer implemented. It doesn't seem like doing that will be very difficult, so expect to see an update soon. Also, Intel's timers will hopefully be more accurate than they were in previous versions (though theoretically they should have been perfect before, now they use a different method that should also theoretically be perfect but it involves fewer "moving parts" where problems might occur), but at least when it comes to the Spirit Towers, Blizzard's clock seems to be a bit slow and I haven't been able to compensate for it perfectly. I've been timing their timer, odd as that sounds, and it seems off. Still, Intel's timer lets you know roundabouts when they will be contested, and if anything, it warns you early, not late, so it's not a big problem.

Sorry for the delay, everyone. I've been busy with other things and haven't really had the opportunity to test things involving Wintergrasp. I haven't even played a full battle there yet. There are some other Wintergrasp timer addons available now that also lessened the priority of getting this implemented. I personally would prefer to have the Intel-style display available so it can be tucked into the world map for those who like that, and there are a number of checks they don't use (yet?) and statistics they don't track/display I'd like to monitor, so something should be coming down the pipe here... eventually.
