Chatterbox  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.14
by: seebs, Zhiva

Chatterbox is a successor to AnnoyRP; it detects events and responds to them by, for instance, saying witty things. You could "/party Ow." when you die. You could say various funny things when draining souls.

By default, Chatterbox uses a low chance (about 5%) of saying anything at all in response to events. Trust me! THIS IS A GOOD THING.

Chatterbox seems to be stable!

Feedback is welcome.

Upcoming features:
Some way to share events between characters.

0.14:
* Changed font so {} and [] can be told apart.
* "Interrupt" event type reworked: now watches for SPELL_INTERRUPT combat log event, instead of UNIT_SPELLCAST_INTERRUPTED unit event. This allows to pass interrupting spell, interrupting spell source, interrupted spell and interrupted target as ${ability}, ${source}, ${info} and ${target}. Old functionality is still available as "Interrupted" type. Please be cautious when using both "Interrupt" and "Interrupted", they may clash.
* Added new event type: "Summon". It corresponds to SPELL_SUMMON combat log event. Use ${ability} and ${target} to pass summoning spell name and summoned creature name. Examples:
I choose you, ${target}!
Yes, ${target}, it is in your contract!
Event is triggered by hunter pet summons, warlock demon summons, shaman totems etc. As usual, if you want to create an event for particular summon, write its ability or target in corresponding event field.

0.13:
* TOC for 4.0.
* Fixed for 4.0 API.
* Fixed editing of throttle value.
* Fixed displaying of options.
* Debug options now are saved between sessions.
* Added tooltips to "Fast" and "Pass" checkbuttons.
-------
Implemented /cbx say and /cbx psay (to say something from a chatter list either unconditionally or with a given percentage chance), fixed a few bugs. Sorry for the delay, folks.

Works with WotLK now (the tab interface and scroll interface both changed).

And yes, I only just now found out about this because I never read posts on Curse. X_x;

Edit: Nooooo...nope, sorry. I'm sticking with AnnoyRP for now. I have far too many Global events to just toss 'em or duplicate them when it's not necessary... Chatterbox just sort of made everything bigger and needlessly more complex for me, honestly. I'll be keeping an eye on this addon, but unless something changes, I'll stick with AnnoyRP. Thank you for keeping BOTH up, though.
Hmmm.

You have a really interesting point there, and I think that next time I have time (it's been a while, I've been super busy), I'll try to add globals back in.

I hadn't thought of that use. I found them useless because all my events are somewhat character specific.

Now, here's a question. Do you need global *events*, or just global *chatter lists*?

I'm having an issue with Chatterbox. When I first load up the UI for it I can switch to the 'Chatters' tab just fine. But once I leave that tab and go to another then try to come back to it, it refuses to show. I remain in whatever tab I am currently in. Only reloading the UI fixes this. Any idea what might be wrong?

No idea, but I'll see if I can reproduce it. It would not shock me if the tab code were buggy; 3.0 completely broke it and I may have missed something in getting it fixed.

Awsome, if it is buggy, and you can get the tabs working again, I'll definitely be using this addon as I loved AnnoyRP.

Thank you.

Hmm. It works for me. Any indications of, say, other addons influencing it?

*edit*

Ok, I figured out what addon was causing the conflict. It seems it's coming from Satrina Buff Frames. Even with the latest version of it it still causes the tab issue I was telling you about. I posted for the addon author of SBF so that they would be aware of this problem as well:

Just wanted to drop a line here of something that I came across today. SBF seems to have a conflict with Chatterbox (or the other way around). Either way, in chatterbox, with SBF active, one of the tabs becomes unselectable. No idea why but I will be posting this issue for the addon author of Chatterbox as well so that it might help getting it solved. I love both the addons and wouldn't want to have to seek out replacements for either.

Thank you for your time.

Well, looks like the problem of not being able to access the 'chatters' tab is back again and I don't even have Satrina Buff Frames running. Funny thing is, this happens sporadically, and also, the chatters I have put in, when I was able to access the tab, don't actually get said in the 'say' channel. I get some green text in my chat box reading: Chatterbox would have said "insert my quote here."

I don't understand why it's not saying anything anymore, as I have had it successfully work before, but now it just doesn't want to say my quotes I put in.

That sounds like mute or debug mode, I can't remember which.

I'll have to muck about with this more. It may depend on some other addon, or something, but I can't imagine how; the tab code is pretty simple.

Ya I had hoped that it might have been because I forgot to uncheck the mute box, but when I checked it hadn't been muted, so it should have been RP'ing the sayings.

It's quite possible that the box is out of sync -- try clicking it a couple of times, if that fixes it then there may be a case where it gets put into the wrong mode. Hmm.

Emotes?

is there anyway to have Chatterbox do a custom emote? I've tried /em text in the text line and it just outputs that to the SAY line. I'd like to do some fishing emotes. =(

I think it works if you use "/emote text".

Great mod

I just would like to know if it would be possible to add target's class as a variable to display in chatters.

Thank you in advance

I love this mod, but I was wondering if you might consider adding an option that would make for some less hassle for myself and, I think, others.

Basically, there's a lot of abilities I use across various characters while roleplaying out of combat. I really don't need Chatterbox to go off when I'm doing that (I can type out dialogue just fine at those times ) and sometimes it can lead to horrible situations where a character will say something that they wouldn't EVER DREAM OF saying in the current context. Case in point, at one point my druid cast Hurricane over some friends to annoy them ICly and one of her chatters went off, causing her to sing "Raindrops keep falling on your head, and that means that you will soon be falling dead!" Needless to say, that turned out poorly.

Toggling the mod to mute every time is annoying and far too easy to forget. Telling every ability that can be used out of combat to not say anything out of combat would be laborious in the current setup, if it is even possible. All I want is an option to suppress the mod entirely when out of combat. If you want to go a step further, a button to toggle the mod on or off that can be placed in the normal view of the UI, maybe a map button, would be okay too.

Optimally I'd like to see an checkbox for each Event or best of all individual Chatters to turn it off out of combat. This would allow chatters for spells meant to be used out of combat to retain them for utility's sake, such as portals, res spells and buffs, but avert issues like the example I gave above without any fuss.

Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure. I could try, but not every target has a well-defined class. Hmm.
